Advantages Advantages Plenty of cheap bars and some free attractions

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be very busy

Well not quite home as I don't live exactly in Newcastle but I go there very often sometimes on my own, sometimes with friends or family. Newcastle gets stereotyped as being friendly and a place to go drinking etc, but while it's true to an extent, and there are lots of reasonable or cheap pubs, clubs and bars, there is also a lot more to the City and the places around it. The people are certainly just like everywhere else, some will be friendly, some won't! Newcastle dates back to the Romans - in fact there's a Roman museum in Wallsend just about 20 mins away by car, if the traffic isn't too ... more

Advantages Advantages I live here, what more do you want

Disadvantages Disadvantages There is now a Metro to Sunderland, to handy for my liking.

BigBaz has challenged me to write an op on Newcastle, no not the football club, my home city. The hours I have spent researching and writing this op is beyond belief, it has been by far the hardest opinion I have had to write but also the most rewarding and interesting. I have lived in Newcastle all my life, so who better to tell you of it’s attractions than me. There was a time in my life when I was going to move to Peterbrough to start a new life, but no, I couldn’t leave my beloved home city, Newcastle has everything that I could ever need, and I love it here so I couldn’t bring myself to ... more

Are you looking for a good night out then look no further than Newcastle upon Tyne the party capital of the North East of England. Join with me on a tour of my adopted home Newcastle upon Tyne and lets see what this fine city has to offer you. Newcastle is easily accessed via road, rail, sea and air. Travel on the A1 from both north and south, the A69 from the west and via the sea from the east. Beware though parking spaces are difficult to find in Newcastle, as the local council seems determined to drive away the motorist. Many visitors now hire minibuses for their journey. You can even ... more

Advantages Advantages Couldnot oganise a p*ss up on the town moor

Disadvantages Disadvantages Showed that Newcastle could behave

This opinion is based on a topic thats is really eating into me. This Weekend should have been Love Parade 2001 based on the Town Moor in the City of Newcastle. This was an event that was talked about with great enthusiasm and promised to bring a huge amount of visitors from all over Britain. Basically "The Love Parade" was a hugh music festival that is held by Radio One and was last held in Leeds. This event caters for all music taste and last normally from Friday Afternoon right into Monday morning. We in Newcastle do not normally get to see an event on this size without travelling out on ... more

    Advantages Advantages See opinion

    Disadvantages Disadvantages See opinion

Before I launch into this missive, I should point out (for the category fanatics out there) that this is actually only an opinion about the Thistle Hotel in Newcastle – Ciao’s reluctance to add new products means that I am unable to submit this within it’s own category. After my last visit to a Thistle Hotel, you’d think that I’d have learnt my lesson by now, and stayed well clear. Alas, no – this week’s visit to Newcastle was hosted by none other than the Geordie outlet of the prickly themed hotel chain. Oh well – at least they were consistent ... more

Advantages Advantages Compact city with plenty to see and do

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Binge drinking culture

I currently live in Newcastle and can assure anyone wishing to visit that it's a great place with plenty to see and do - all within walking distance! Having moved up here from Liverpool many years ago to study I found myself forever comparing these two great cities - and there are a lot of comparisons. Yes the Tyne isn't quite the Mersey but both are a source of pride and passion for the locals. On the Quayside you will find plenty of bars and restaurants, some old such as 'Bob Trollops' and the 'Quilted Camel' and some new such as the 'Pitcher and Piano' and 'Mal Maisson'. These newer ... more

Advantages Advantages The nightlife, the shopping, everything!!

Disadvantages Disadvantages None!! A weekend prob isnt long enough!

I am a student in Newcastle, and it is a brilliant city to live in. I'm from a small little town so Newcastle was a bit of a change for me, but I love it! NIGHTLIFE: Nights out in Newcastle are excellent, i tend to just go out through the week, as even tho Fridays and Saturdays are both excellent nights out, wherever you go it is really expensive (so on these nights I would just stick to the student union). On a Saturday night you could pay about £10 to get in a club. Every other night out in Newcastle is also brilliant- and cheap too! On a Monday night I would go to bars in The Gate - a big ... more

    Advantages Advantages Great shopping centre

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very spread out so need a car

This is a City that you have to visit. It has such A brilliant shopping centre. You could certainly shop til you drop in Newcastle. It has excellent night life, so many pubs and clubs. The locals are so friendly too. Everyone is football orientated, so if you dont like football and you visit, be prepared not to avoid the sport. You will also notice a rivalry between Newcastle and Sunderland. Can be a bit difficult if you ask why, so my advice is, dont :) Its a very large city, lots to see, and very spread out. If you plan to go, its best to have a car to get about. ... more

Advantages Advantages Home of the geordie's! Howay!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages NONE!

Ah,my home town! So im a geordie born and bred. I love my home town of Newcastle. So I just thought id write a review incase you were thinking on taking a trip up here. Firstly im goin to talk about shopping because thats my favorite thing to do and my area of expertise. The main place for shopping is Eldon Square, which includes John Lewis and Fenwick. Eldon Square also has all your high street shops. The other main place is Northumberland street, which also has high street shops. My favorite place to shop has to be the Metro Centre in Gateshead. It is easy enough to drive to. But you can also ... more

    5 Stars A great city! 20/09/2000

Advantages Advantages Lots of variety, no matter what your tastes.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very football orientated - avoid visiting on match days if you hate football.

I first moved to Newcastle about six years ago and after living in Birmingham and London in between, I have now relocated back to Newcastle. The people are very friendly - it takes a while to understand that if somebody starts talking to you at a bus stop then they are just being friendly and they are not weird or are trying to chat you up :-) There is a wide variety of things to do: during the day you can shop til you drop - there are two large shopping centres - Eldon Square in the city centre and the Metrocentre in nearby Gateshead. There are museums, art galleries, parks and the coast is ... more
