...I don't live exactly in Newcastle but I go there very often sometimes on my own, sometimes with friends or family.
Newcastle gets stereotyped as being friendly and a place to go drinking etc, but while it's true to an extent, and there are lots of reasonable or cheap pubs, clubs and bars, there is also a lot more to the City and the places around it. The people are certainly just like everywhere else, some will be friendly, some won't!

Newcastle is good for shopping. There is Eldon Square and Northumberland Street, which both consist mainly of chain stores but you get that in just about every city now. There are a couple of NUFC stores which add a local flavour.

Newcastle is easily accessed via road, rail, sea and air. Travel on the A1 from both north and south, the A69 from the west and via the sea from the east. Beware though parking spaces are difficult to find in Newcastle, as the local council seems ... ...of Hadrian’s Wall.
Newcastle is also well served by rail from all over the United Kingdom with the central station being within five minutes walk of the city centre.
If you travel by air then you are within fifteen minutes of the city via the local rail service known as the Metro. Services being both fast and frequent. The Metro gives you access to all of Tyneside via its own trains and interchanges with the local bus services.

We in Newcastle do not normally get to see an event on this size without travelling out on the North - East. This was going to be an event to shown Newcastle off and show what we could do, but at the same time bring a huge amount of visitors along with valuable revenue for the likes of our hotel industry.
This event had been planned well ahead by the BBC. So was do you think its eaten me so much that the main stage on the Town Moor ... ...to be cancelled as NEWCASTLE CITY COUNCIL forgot to ask to permission from the Police to stage the event and because Newcastle United qualified for the Inter Toto cup by chance less than 4 weeks ago and where playing at home, the Police couldnot handle two major events.
So imagine when you and your three mates from say Somerset slash out 70 quid each for rail tickets and book hotels for another £50 each. You managed to organise your selves, but ...

I currently live in Newcastle and can assure anyone wishing to visit that it's a great place with plenty to see and do - all within walking distance!
Having moved up here from Liverpool many years ago to study I found myself forever comparing these two great cities - and there are a lot of comparisons. Yes the Tyne isn't quite the Mersey but both are a source of pride and passion for the locals. On the Quayside you will find plenty of bars and restaurants, ... ...is great Architecture everywhere in Newcastle form the ancient Castle Keep to the imposing Victorian central train station, providing a stark offset to the very modern refurbishment of St James Park (55,000 seats). If your driving in by car over one of the many bridges this is a real landmark perched atop of a hill it's an imposing site indeed.
Other things to do in the centre of town include a visit to Laing art gallery, Discovery museum, Sage ...

NIGHTLIFE:
Nights out in Newcastle are excellent, i tend to just go out through the week, as even tho Fridays and Saturdays are both excellent nights out, wherever you go it is really expensive (so on these nights I would just stick to the student union). On a Saturday night you could pay about £10 to get in a club. Every other night out in Newcastle is also brilliant- ... ...roundabout as you come into newcastle from the south. Its a really cool bar, in an impressive building (this bar is good whatever night you go) Stereo is just behind the Pitcher and Piano, and on a Sunday night it is Funky House. It is a truly fantastic night out- open till 1am, its the only place i'd recommend on a Sunday night. Advantages: Lots of variety, no matter what your tastes. Disadvantages: Very football orientated - avoid visiting on match days if you hate football.
I first moved to Newcastle about six years ago and after living in Birmingham and London in between, I have now relocated back to Newcastle.
The people are very friendly - it takes a while to understand that if somebody starts talking to you at a bus stop then they are just being friendly and they are not weird or are trying to chat you up :-)
There is a wide variety of things to do: during the day you can shop til you drop - there are two large ... ...universities in the centre of newcastle and during term time there are a lot of students around. This means that the city is fairly busy but I don't find it as impersonal as Birmingham or London.
The people up here are passionate about their football and as I support Middlesbrough I do get a bit of ribbing as there is a bit of rivalry between the north east teams. However people don't get nasty but they will happily spend an evening trying to convince ...

For shopping there is the contrast between the city centre and the Metro Centre (almost a town in itself). Newcastle my home City is becoming more and more popular with Hen and Stag parties.....after being stopped countless of times by tourists asking for best places to go etc......i thought id write a general review of the main nightlife to be found in Newcaslte.
Typically the town is split into 3 or 4 main areas to go drinking....although they are all within walking distance of each other.
The "infamous" Bigg Market - best way to describe would be ... ...For all the trendy folk out there, the Central Station belt is the place to hit for Ibiza-esque atmosphere and music.
If ya plannin on going clubbing, main clubs in Newcastle are Baja beach club - Cheesey pop

...from a Stag Do in Newcastle at the weekend. We had an awesome time and it was in no small part to what this city has to offer. We stayed at a hotel in the Quayside. I would recommend this rather than the city centre. The centre is fine but Quayside is far more picturesque. We stayed literally yards for the Tyne Bridge which is in the picture. Pure class. There are loads of bars and we were fortunate enough to have a guided tour on the Friday. My ... ...pot to wee in. In Newcastle it is full of genuine people out for a laugh. I felt totally safe in the place. When was the last time you heared anything serious in the news about Newcastle? To give you an idea of what the people are like we got the Stag dressed in a borat costume. You know his famous Mankini. We took him out in it during the day. why did I go to Newcastle for a long weekend? If you know the answer please let me know.
I stayed at a hotel just outside the city and it was o.k. If a bit ordinary. So far so good. I was recommended to go to what was said to be the largest shopping centre in the country and perhaps it was onc. Anyway I have no complaints here it is what it said it was.

...both in the centre of Newcastle and also the nearby Metro Centre. Once the sun goes down there are three main areas for pubs - the Haymarket which is near the Universities, so fairly studenty (check out Cafe Pacific for super cocktails and food - less studenty on a weekend), the Bigg Market for real party animals and the Quayside for the more sophisticated! My favourite pubs on the Quayside are Offshore and Chase. Also, check out the Piano and Pitcher ... ...main pubs are. Newcastle has quite a few nightclubs, but none are particularly fantastic. A new one called 'Bah Hah Beach Club' has opened recently over the bridge in Gateshead. Its good once you get in, but be prepared to queue for a lonnnnggg time!!
All in all though, a good time will be had by all! ...
