...Welcome to Newquay
Newquay can be a tranquil haven away from the stresses and strains of the fast moving urban life, it can also be a clubbers paradise. Last year following 3 months of stress completing a teaching practice and starting my dissertation I knew I needed a break. OK so 48 miles down the A38 may not seem like much of a holiday but it was. I like to visit Newquay 5-7 times a year for a day and at least once a year for a short getaway. ... ...village called ‘Towan Blystra’ (Cornish). Newquay is now known as the ‘UK’s Surf Capital’ and is a very lively place for tourists. Newquay’s climate is warm and is one of the places in the region where you may see palm trees growing. There are 7 miles of coastline with beaches to suit many people with different interests. The beaches are highly popular with surfers. ***ACCOMODATION***
We stayed in the Sandy Lodge Hotel for a weekend over Easter. ...

...Penhale camp, which is near Newquay - but because there is no Penhale section, I will put it in the Newquay section.
From Wiltshire, it took us three hours to get to Exeter which was our lunch break. We stopped at Exeter service station - which can I add, is a lovely place to stop, with up to date toilet facilities, a restaurant, a burger king and a shop. There is also an outside play park for the children, and arcade games dotted about the place. ... ...a half to get there, so we got to Penhale camp at 3.30 in the afternoon. Driving through the little town of Penhale though, I realized what a lovely little town it would be to visit. It had the tourist shops, the beaches with people sunbathing and surfing on, and steep sandy hills. As soon as I got there, I thought 'oh wow, I hope we get to go there!' so we got to the training camp which was on top of a hill, and I thought, 'so this is my home for ...

Advantages: Great for conservation. Disadvantages: Animals are behind bars!
Generally, Newquay is not a big name when it comes to animal conservation but it does have a cute little zoo, with a very original name, ‘Newquay Zoo’!
**History**
It was opened in 1969 as a small ‘pets corner, but is now one of the United Kingdom’s top zoos. It runs conservation programmes that have won them many awards since 1996. It has also been granted the ‘South West Tourism Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance assessment’, proving it to ... ...around the National Curriculum
Newquay zoo now employs thirty full time members of staff. The tourism board as Newquay’s single best-known attraction currently recognizes the zoo, with over a quarter of a million visitors visiting the attraction in 2001. It is thought that visitor numbers will exceed this figure in 2002.

...nightlife that satisfies your need, Newquay is the 'happening' place to be and will do just that. Through the eyes of the younger generation as well as the more mature this small town situated in Cornwall is the ideal place to let your hair down for the weekend and to enjoy its clubs and pubs no matter what your age group. Newquay holds a varied nightlife to satisfy even the fussiest of people. So I will start with the two clubs which provide an excellent variety of music to provide a great night out for everyone to enjoy. Advantages: beaches, shops, surf, people Disadvantages: expensive
Newquay is one of the supposed, ‘happening places to go in the UK’, and from what I have seen at the University of Plymouth, and from what other friends have told me from across the country, everybody claims to have been there at least once.
It has become the British Mecca to surfing; with during the summer millions of bleached blonde, longhaired, tanned skin, surfer types hang around the place and connect with people of the same species. ... ...of my life), I experience Newquay both in the summer and winter months. During the summer it is buzzing with activity 24 hours a day, with millions of things to see, and places to go. However during the winter the town becomes a ghost town, with about as much action as the preverbal dick in a nunnery. A good 50% of the shops are closed, the hotels are empty, clubs closed for most of the week, and not a sole for the eye to see.

...planning to come down to Newquay this is the time to do it.
Speaking as a local (living 5 minutes from the town centre) I enjoy every minute of Run to the Sun. Throughout the years it has changed from being a Volts wagon event to a boy racer event. Last year the number of boy racers greatly outnumbered Beetles, which in my opinion is a good thing, Beetles are not great to look at and once you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all. A good tip for this weekend would be not to try and drive into the town. It gets very busy and most of the time traffic is at a standstill. If you are staying miles away drive as near as you can get, park in one of the back streets and walk in. I’ve lived in Newquay all my life (Well, except when I defected to London for three years to do a degree!!) so I thought some of you might find it interesting to read a Local’s Guide to Surf City UK!! Advantages: Amazing holiday destination Disadvantages: None at all
...choice in the matter! Newquay is probably best known for its amazing surf, known as the "surfing capital of Europe" surfers flock from far and wide to Newquay's beaches (yes, there's more than one beach!) Fistral is probably the most famous of Newquay's beaches, and reputedly the best one for surfing, but my personal favourite is Lusty Glaze beach, not only is it absolutely beautiful but it's got a really cool name too!
Perhaps because of the surfing ... ...perhaps Blackpool.
Shopping in Newquay is the usual touristy fare, with most shops selling shells, polished stones, rock and the ubiquitous "cornwall fudge" with the addition of more surfing shops than you can shake a very large stick at. There are also the usual high street shops you'd expect in any moderately sized town including Woolworths, etc.
Close to the seafront it seems that practically every second house is a guest house so finding accomodation ...

Everyone knows that Newquay boasts some of the best surfing beaches in Europe. Young people come from all over the world to experience the surfing and the nightlife of this vibrant and exciting place. However, there is another side to Newquay that not everyone gets to see. As you enter Newquay you are advised "Some of Europe's finest beaches", but which beach to go to? All the beaches in Newquaqy are sandy and large, here I take a look at Fistral.
