...was my three-day visit to Niagara Falls more precisely the Niagara Region. Both my friends knew the region well considering both had relatives in the area and had visited the Falls many, many times before, so who better to show me the splendours of the resort. The 35 mile long Niagara River forms a natural border between the United States and Canada with the resorts spanning the border. There are actually two Niagara Falls cities each separated by the wide gorge but reachable via numerous bridges along the river. At Niagara it is the Rainbow Bridge.

Niagara has long been on my 'to do' list, so I was happy for my departure from Mexico to coincide with a stop-over in Toronto and, thus, a trip to the falls. I was lucky to be taken there by a friend I made on my Christmas tour of Costa Rica. As Toronto residents for about 6 years, she and her mother had been there before, but not for some time, and were happy to return. I had originally planned to take a one-day guided tour from Toronto, which would ... ...round the tower and onto Niagara Parkway where I could finally hear, if still not see, the falls. We passed the Casino, and then stumbled upon the 'Falls and Firkin' which I just had to take a picture of - those firkins get everywhere! There is a walkway that takes you to the incline railway for access to the lower level, and though it takes barely a minute (57 seconds, in fact), I was very happy to go on this since I'm a sucker for any kind of funicular ...

...looking forward to tomorrow’s destination, Niagara Falls.
Ever the organised one, I had already booked our accommodation at the “Sheraton on the Falls” and were planning on making the hour and half’s drive there immediately after dinner. Because I was sans printer when I made the booking, I’d only scribbled down a few directions on a piece of paper (well how hard could it be, find the falls, the hotel’s next to it?).
At about 10:00pm we were on ... ...me my first view of Niagara Falls. It was fully lit with multicoloured lights and you could just about hear the noise of the water cascading down above the din of the music. It looked a little smaller than I imagined, but with good reason. The falls I was looking at were the “American Falls”; the more famous “Canadian Horseshoe Falls” were up the road a little way (and out of my view). I didn’t realise there were two of them! If you could mentally ...

...to take a trip to Niagara Falls. The Falls are about 85 miles outside Toronto. You can hire a car and drive there easily from the city or if you prefer there are numerous organised tours that you can take. There’s also quite a good bus service or you can take the train from Union Street station in downtown Toronto.

We arrived at Niagara Falls at around 11.30 and first impressions were not good. The railway station is some way from the Falls themselves. Lots of people were queuing for taxis but, we reasoned, it surely wouldn’t take long to walk. With hindsight it was a bit like arriving at London Euston, turning left out of the station and expecting to see Piccadilly Circus in front of you. Visiting Niagara Falls for the first time evokes dreams that have been instilled upon the conscience. Whether you have been told tales or seen shots in Hollywood movies, it is a tourist attraction that everybody has some knowledge of. JoJo's coach, which takes a maximum of 14 passengers, provided insightful information on the road down. Everybody on the tour was asked to provide a sound bite about themselves to help get to know each other better. The driver was also respectful of those wanting quiet time. I enjoyed hearing the stories of all the people who had tried to come up with their own unique way of taking a trip through the falls. From sitting ...

...catching the train down to Niagara station (which cost CA $50 return, but booked a few days in advance). From here the train actually goes onto New York providing you have your passport, but it would really be a 2/3 day trip from here as I think it's about 6 hour train journey. ...and Canada runs through the Niagara river, and it is possible to walk (or drive) across the border on the Rainbow Bridge (something of a Rainbow theme.. I know!). Most of the tourist amenities are on the Canadian side, and the biggest of the three falls (the Horseshoe Falls) are on the Canadian Falls. Niagara Falls has two falls the Canadian Falls and the American Falls, I visited the Canadian Falls which are also described as the Horseshoe Falls due to the shape of them way back in 1721.
At 52m (170ft high) they are slightly higher than the American Falls located on the Buffalo Side in America which are 56m (189ft high) and 12,000 years ago the Canadian falls were located 7miles downstream from their present location and less than 10% of the ... ...During this time the Niagara was inhabited by the Clovis people who were nomadic hunters.

When deciding where to go on holiday this year we thought that going somewhere far away and different was better than going local. After searching for weeks we finally decided to go to Canada and visit the wonderous Niagra Falls.

...the 'Thundering Water' that is Niagara falls was my holiday destination for 3 weeks in August. I'd never been before and can say that I will definately be there again.

The views of the 2 Falls is amazing from above. During the ride you have headsets on. The reason for this is twofold. First, it cuts the helicopter engine noise out. Niagara Falls is one of nature's wonders. I was lucky enough to visit the area last month and found it breathtaking. On the way to the Falls we overheard more than a few Americans telling waiting staff and gas attendants that they visit the Falls every year, and we were a little perplexed. Obviously we were looking forward to seeing the Falls and expected it to be a wonderful sight, but to visit year after year? Wouldn't that get boring?

We began the day with a ride on the Maid of the Mist, a ferry boat that takes you past the American Falls and into the bowl of the Horseshoe. The free plastic raincoat becomes a much loved friend very quickly. Niagara Falls is one of the most awe-inspiring sights that I have ever seen. Before you can see the falls you can hear the thunder of the water cascading over the edge. The Niagara Parkway which runs alongside the Falls and on north to Niagara on the Lake is undoubtedly one of the nicest stretches of road that I have ever travelled along. This is Canadian wine country – a microclimate exists which allows the production of some fine wines in the area, and several of the vineyards are adjacent to the parkway. At the end of the Parkway entering Niagara on the Lake will seem like travelling back in time. The town council have obviously done an excellent job in restricting development here. ...

I visited Niagra Falls when I was on holiday in Canada a couple of year’s back.
