Nice the fifth largest city of France only became french in 1860 with a population of 350,000 it offers many attractions to its thousands of visitors each year. It makes an admirable hub from which to visit the many interesting towns and villages of the area. Nice is an absolutely beautiful place. I have been there three times already (1994/1998/2000)and will hopefully be going back there later this year. The type and variety of shops is astounding. In the Vieux Nice (old town) there are winding streets of small and reasonably priced shops selling everything from olive oil to sweet children's clothes made of tradtional fabrics to hand made jewellery. Disadvantages: Beach isn't great, probably over-crowded in the summer

Located on the Cote D'Azur (or French Riviera), Nice is a refreshing change of pace if you've just come from Italy, Barcelona or even Paris. Nice is a good sized city, apparently 5th largest in France, but to me it didn't feel much bigger than Bournemouth. It is certainly easily walkable if you stay somewhere central. We would not have liked to stay in one of the beachfront hotels that stretch up to the airport approx. 6km away. They are too far from the centre of town. Disadvantages: can be pricy

...They are also connected to Nice by frequent trains and buses. There are plenty of hotels and B&Bs in nice to suit every budget. If you are planning to stay longer then renting a holiday apartment may not be a bad option either. Nice is very well connected to all major European cities by flights. I went to Nice on a business meeting. The meeting was held at Best Western Hotel. Airport transport - Nice airport is small but comfortable. Easily reached by all types of transport. I took a bus from airport to Hotel which cost around Eur4.00. Traveling back to airport I used the bus again, and their service is excellent and on time. I went to Nice a couple of years ago with my wife on a cheap flight with Easyjet. We had no idea what to expect when we arrived in the South of France. Our taxi whisked us away to our hotel, La Perousse, which I would recommend. It is part of a larger chain but feels as it is family owned and managed. Nice is a special city to me. Infact it is my favourite city in the world. Probably this is due to the fact that the first foreign holiday that I had was accompanying my father when he had a business trip there. That was 7 years ago when I was 11. ...day after day! It's a nice town, not too big nor too small and it's in a good place. From there you can take trips to other Cote D'Azur place, like Monaco and Saint Tropez. It's an expensive town that's sure is but it's worth visiting. I'm not that rich but I did manage to do some shopping during my trips.
