Advantages Advantages Short cheap flight, sun, food, scenery, nice people, city AND beach

Disadvantages Disadvantages Pricey, have to risk life and limb sliding down a minor scree slope into the sea!

My friend Annette and I both have special birthdays this year and decided we had to do something special to celebrate. Originally we thought of a weekend in Bath but as we didn't want to drive, the train was extortionate and the bus took for ever we looked a bit further afield. Now we have Jet2 from Leeds/Bradford airport, it was simple to look at their website to see where we could go reasonably cheaply. It was down to Prague or Nice; Nice won (could it be the promise of sun and seaside?!) Plus it only cost us about £20 each more than Bath believe it or not! TRAVEL The flight was easy to book ... more

5 Stars My whistlestop tour of Nice! Review with images 05/11/2010

Advantages Advantages Easy to get around, great scenery, good food

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

As you’ve probably gathered from my recent reviews I visited Nice earlier on this month. This is the last of my Nice themed reviews and focuses on the city itself. Although most of the day was busy with meetings and presentations we were able to explore some of Nice in the evenings and in the extended lunch breaks we were given. I also spent an extra day there after the meeting had finished. So rather a whistestop tour but one I thoroughly enjoyed. I’ll go through some of the highlights for me in this review. **First Impressions** My first impression of Nice was from the air as we came to land ... more

Nice or Nizza as the locals know it. You've probably seen photos etc. I stayed here for four months it must have been about five years ago as part of my studies for European Business Studies with the University of Hertfordshire. I lived in Nice for four months as a student, in Valence (next to Lyons) working for six months and then about 3 years ago I lived in Caen in Normandy for four months. Each of these locations are so different as you would expect from France, but Nice remains my favourite memory, probably due to the large amount of free time that I had being a student (12 hours a week ... more

Advantages Advantages Nice, a big town, on the sea side, close to mountains, good life.

Disadvantages Disadvantages So often fully booked even on low period due to congresspeople.

For my first opinion on CIAO.UK, I am writing about my natural born town : Nice. Wherever weather is cloudy, rainy, windy and frozen, Nice is still sunny (more than 280 days per year) and warm in summer time (average temperature 26 - 30°) not cold in winter time (almost 12 - 20°). Last time I remember snow in Nice, it was 1986! and believe me it was such a mess on the roads and everywhere, no schools, most of the shops were closed, but good time and superbe pictures from the famous Promenade des Anglais covered by snow! Nice is located close to the italian frontier, so many italian influences ... more

Advantages Advantages Lots to do Good climate Great Food

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not the best beach in the world

Nice the fifth largest city of France only became french in 1860 with a population of 350,000 it offers many attractions to its thousands of visitors each year. It makes an admirable hub from which to visit the many interesting towns and villages of the area. The shopping available is both varied and competitive and you are more likely to find a bargain here than in Cannes or St. Tropez. It also offers a fine selection of museums. If you are just seeking somewhere to lie on a beach Nice is not for you, while ok for topping up your tan or checking out the local beach fauna, there is no sand ... more

Nice is an absolutely beautiful place. I have been there three times already (1994/1998/2000)and will hopefully be going back there later this year. The type and variety of shops is astounding. In the Vieux Nice (old town) there are winding streets of small and reasonably priced shops selling everything from olive oil to sweet children's clothes made of tradtional fabrics to hand made jewellery. This can provide hours of meandering, not forgetting to stop in the Cours Saleya for a coffee or a cold drink. The newer part of town has all the designer label shops you would expect on the Riviera ... more

Advantages Advantages Relaxing, great weather, fantastic views, lots of interesting markets

Disadvantages Disadvantages Beach isn't great, probably over-crowded in the summer

If you're looking for somewhere to relax and enjoy the sunshine, stroll the markets or just hang out in a café and eat baguettes, then Nice is as good a place as any. Located on the Cote D'Azur (or French Riviera), Nice is a refreshing change of pace if you've just come from Italy, Barcelona or even Paris. Okay, so it's still rather touristy, but in a relatively laid back, unintrusive sort of way (does that make sense?). The weather is almost always gorgeous, the views spectacular and there are loads of cheap eateries and interesting little markets. There are also scores of art museums as well ... more

Advantages Advantages Plenty to do, at all prices, and a good base to travel from

Disadvantages Disadvantages Pebble beach and noisy scooters

Nice is a good sized city, apparently 5th largest in France, but to me it didn't feel much bigger than Bournemouth. It is certainly easily walkable if you stay somewhere central. We would not have liked to stay in one of the beachfront hotels that stretch up to the airport approx. 6km away. They are too far from the centre of town. We stayed at Hotel de Lepante for £40.00 a night for a compact room with a seperate shower, toilet and basin. We also had a tv and it was basic and clean. The hotel is family run and they speak English and are friendly and helpful. It is very central, but somewhat ... more

Advantages Advantages Beautiful, Gorgeous, sunny, nice weather, exotic cuisine

    Disadvantages Disadvantages can be pricy

Nice, the capital of French Riviera is a fantastic travel destination. It is a beautiful French town flanked between the gorgeous meditation and the mighty Alps. The pebbly beach by the deep blue Mediterranean is absolutely superb. The old town is just a few steps from the beach and its narrow alleys are lined by restaurants and shops of exquisite Nicoise items. You can get hand made potteries, wooden items, lavender, olive, herbs and other spices from these shops. If you like good, exotic perfumes, then you must visit the shops selling local perfumes. Nearby place Grasse is renowned for ... more

I went to Nice on a business meeting. The meeting was held at Best Western Hotel. Airport transport - Nice airport is small but comfortable. Easily reached by all types of transport. I took a bus from airport to Hotel which cost around Eur4.00. Traveling back to airport I used the bus again, and their service is excellent and on time. Some information - the airport was built some years ago and its existing place was a small hill. The City - I will divide Nice in two parts, the old and the touristic city. I loved to walk around. It is a safe place. It is a must to walk along Anglais Promenade ... more
