Advantages Advantages See all the ancient towns cities and temples

Disadvantages Disadvantages The heat, but only if you let it grt to you

During one of our holidays to Crocodile Island at Luxor in Egypt we signed up to go on a Nile Cruise with our tour operator, Thomsons. It was for four days and three nights and cost £330 all inclusive this included an outside cabin, (a window cabin), all meals some buffet some a la Carte, our own guide, (English speaking Egyptologist), all the trips and entrance charges to the temples and museums. We were so excited as we had not planned to do a cruise before we came to Egypt, but we were shown a short film and given all the details at our welcome rep meeting when we first arrived. They made ... more

Advantages Advantages Lots of Interesting Things to See

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Tiring

My dad and I had always wanted to go to Egypt so this year we decided that we'd push the boat out (excuse the pun) and do it. We booked up with Discover Egypt after a friend had told us how good they were and what a good time they had. We took off from Manchester airport at ten in the morning on a Monarch flight, we had to pick up passengers at Gatwick so this added at least another hour onto the flight, I managed to sleep most of the way. The flight lasted around seven hours in total. When we arrived at Luxor airport we were met by a Discover Egypt rep and went to get our visa which cost £15 ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Early trip-starts, too much drink, too much great food, too much sun

NILE CRUISE: PART TWO *********************** Having had a fair number of favourable comments on my first attempt at a Ciao review, and having re-read my offering, and those of the much more experienced reviewers here, I thought I'd put a little more flesh on its bones, as it were; beefed up by some of our more personal experiences, and a little more detail in terms of the sights encountered on our last little jaunt into the larger world. I'll flesh out the archaeological and cultural sites visited later, if anyone's interested. First and foremost, in terms of visiting Egypt, and particularly ... more

Advantages Advantages A truly wonderful experience

Disadvantages Disadvantages Maybe a dodgy tummy.

Baksheesh, Baksheesh, he called as his grubby hand came towards me, I was not being threatened just the normal request in Egypt if anyone does anything for you. After avoiding all the bag carriers at Luxor airport a simple thing like lifting our cases onto the coach, something we take for granted in England, and it cost a pound, Egyptian of course, and it should not have been that much but that’s the smallest denomination we had at the time, Lesson one, make sure you know what you are going to pay for, probably anything that a stranger does for you. And you have small change to pay it. Not ... more

Advantages Advantages History and having a Thomson rep at all times

    Disadvantages Disadvantages too short

I went on a Nile Cruise with Thomson. It was a five star boat part of the Presidential line called the Nile Commodore. In the brochure the details included all excusions which were packed into the 7 days, I thought oh yea dragged around from tomb to tomb but it was booked so off we went. We arrived to a wonderful friendly greeting. Thomson had a rep on board who came everywhere with us and was always around to help. Not a pretty young thing with fluttering eyelashes but a more mature young woman who was well respected by all the crew. The boat was fantastic wood panelling everywhere and ... more

I have been to Egypt twice and this was my Husbands first trip. We flew here from Tel Aviv on El Al Airlines. The Nile looks like a snake, as it is not as wide as I had imagined it would be. When the River reaches Khartoum it becomes one River that has two sources, (the Blue Nile from Ethiopia and the White Nile from Lake Victoria in Kenya). I am very interest in Egyptology as well as Ancient Cultures from around the World. ~.THE SHERATON .~ Our trip was a three-day in Cairo. We stayed at the Sheraton El Gezirah Hotel. This is in the center of Cairo that is on an Island surrounded by the Nile ... more

Advantages Advantages Cruising shows the history of Egypt in a snap shot

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Very tiring

Trying to find a honeymoon venue that would not prove too expensive over Christmas turned out to be harder than we ever imagined. Eventually whilst reading the Daily Mail Travel Section I discovered a fantastic week long cruise down the Nile going out in December and including 10 free excursions for £399! This was advertised with a company called Discover Egypt that I had never heard of. I thought that this was far too good to be true and that there must be a catch. Talking it over with my partner we decided that maybe we should give them a call and get some more details. We were told that for ... more

Advantages Advantages Breath taking views and a wealth of information

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not enough time to see every thing

What a wonderful week we have had in the beautiful land of the Pharohs. After a long flight (this is another review) we arrived in to Luxor airport which if you had never been to this part of the world could have been a shock. The arrivals hall was chaotic with holiday makers looking lost and reps shouting for your attention. We didn't get our Visas in advance and this was not a problem for us as all we had to do was hand over an english ten pound note to our Longwood rep who organised this all for us. The advantage their was that he was egyptian so got speedy treatment pushing in front of ... more

Advantages Advantages Attentative and helpful staff, well organised trips

    Disadvantages Disadvantages There were none

This cruise was a Flash tour booked through Cosmos. It was wonderful from start to finish. The boat (MS Miss Sara) was in excelent condition. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The food was good and plentiful. All the trips were well organised and the Egyptologist was friendly and interesting. The Cosmos rep was particularly good. From the minute we arrived at the Airport in Luxor to the time we reached our hotel one week later everything was done for us. The extra trips to Abu Simbel and the ballon flight were expensive but realy worth it. Even getting up at 2.30 in the morning. I could ... more

Advantages Advantages Breathtaking scenery, amazing relics, good food, knowledgeable Egyptologist and friendly crew

Disadvantages Disadvantages Hassling from traders and local guides

We have just returned from an amazing holiday on the upper Nile. We booked through Cosmos and they used a Flash International boat called Magic 1. The boat was clean, tidy and realatively plush. The crew were friendly and always ready for a joke. The food was very good - not resturant standard but good honest food. The Egyptologists that came with us were nothing short of fantastic. It was an all inclusive trip and the local wine and beer was more than quaffable Cosmos were not brilliant at giving information up front - what would have been useful to know were: You can use any currency ... more
