Advantages: Gateway to the Phillipine islands, clear direction signs Disadvantages: Long check in times, security hassles, poor facilities
...give it its proper name Ninoy Aquino International Airport ( Code MNL) was to look at the sea and watch for the change of colour from a brilliant blue to a dark brown. Unfortunately, that indeed was one indicator I did notice as the coast became nearer.
Once the plane got lower my immediate impression was that the airport was actually very close to built up areas but in some ways this proved to be an illusion as the majority of places people will ... ...On landing, I was struck by how quiet the airport was, there were relatively few planes docked at the piers and only one other plane taxi-ing to the runway, this was about 4pm on a Friday afternoon. Leaving the plane was quick and I was glad to see relatively clear signs telling me which way to go ( always a good bonus in an airport ). The route from the plane to immigration was about 600m or so with no working travelators which could prove to be ...

Advantages: er...some locals can have a job Disadvantages: corruption, corruption and more corruption
Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) was moved to its current site, about 7km south of the country's capital city Manila & southwest of Makati City (now the Central Business District and our second home) in 1948. The original airport serving Manila was opened in 1937 and was in what is now Makati City. Unfortunately as with all other "systems" in the Philippines, it just about works in a completely f***** way (sorry for the strong language but ... ...poor state that it is in).
Nonoy Aquino (NAIA) was originally called Manila International Airport, but was renamed after the EDSA Revolution (People Power Revolution) in 1986 which led to the down fall of Ferdinand Marcos - I am sure that if you don't know about Marcos' regime you will know of his wife Emelda, who was famous for her shoes, once accused of having three thousand pairs of shoes, she famously replied "I actually have one thousand six ...

Advantages: Helpful and friendly staff. Disadvantages: Airport tax, Phonecards and Taxi Drivers
Been twice and really don't like it.
First time I arrived in Centenial Terminal and was impressed. I flew in on Phil Air. Was greeted by helpful staff, although I had to call my wife to find out where she was. I had to buy a phonecard. Luckily I had some Pesos given by a friend, otherwise I would have had to buy an airport phonecard at 500pesos for use only in the airport phones.
On departure you have to line up outside whichever terminal you are ... ...once inside you have to pay 750 departure tax. I don't know where it goes, but it is a little steep in my opinion. Airport facilities are mediocre, but it is a developing country. I didn't expect to find starbucks or a Yahoo internet lounge.
Warning, always book a taxi in the transport office, don't flag one or be ripped off. ...

Quick review of Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Metro Manila Philippines (NAIA)
why on earth is there no bus shuttle or pedestrian walk between Naia and the domestic airport? This is the only airport in the whole world that has this inconvenience? Is this unthinkable? why are all Naia passengers subjected to the hardship/difficulty/suffering/pain of checking out incl their baggages, going out of naia terminal and making it to the domestic airport at their own risk with public transport ?Havent the great/smart Filipino management of these airports finally thought of bus rides, convenience? ...

Advantages: secure airport, generally friendly staff Disadvantages: A complete lack of seats
Manila International is the most secure airport I have ever travelled through.
It is the only airport I know where you cannot even get up the approach road to the airport without having your vehicle inspected by armed security.
Once you get near the terminal building make sure you have a valid ticket and a passport ready or you will not get any nearer than that.
During the dry season baggage is scanned right at the entrance to the terminal building. ... ...weather, you are allowed to queue undercover while your bags are scanned.
I don't object to the 8 or 9 different security checks that I have to pass through every time I visit Manila, or do I object to arriving more than three hours ahead of time just to catch my flight.
What I object to is the complete lack of seats in the main area of the terminal.
Centennial terminal is okay for seats, but the main international area has almost no seats until ...
