Advantages Advantages Good helpful staff, competetive fares, excellent meals included in the fares.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slow, can get boring during the long crossings.

Ferries at the bottom of our garden? I work in Ireland a lot. Sometimes I get sick of the lunacy which is now Dublin Airport and take the ferry instead. From the North West of England there are a couple of options. I can go from Holyhead North Wales or I can sail from much closer to home, from Birkenhead, near to Liverpool. I can get to the ferry port in about twenty minutes so that is great for me. There is a railway station about a ten minute walk away if you don't want to drive there. Norfolk Line also sail from ... Dover to Dunkirk, Liverpool to Belfast, Rosyth (Scotland) to Zeebrugge ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, fantastic ferries, fast crossing

Disadvantages Disadvantages I can't think of any!

Being a student and living with your partner all at the same time can end up being quite difficult. You feel like you should be doing the student thing; out drinking, kissing random men in nightclubs, sleeping on your friends floor. Yet at the same time there is this feeling that you should be doing couply things too; going out for posh meals together, going on trips, going on holiday! The strange thing about doing both is that the other always suffers, you can't go out too much and leave your other half at home and you can't afford the luxuries of meals and holidays, and this is how I found ... more

Norfolk Ferries This is the first time i have used Norfolk Ferries as previously i have only used P&O ferries from Dover to Calais but in this occasion i was going from Dover to Dunkerque, 2 hours long. Norfolk as i know have been around for about 4 years and we came across them online as the cheapest deal. The website was really easy to use and we booked the same morning as our trip. I thought the price of £40 for a return trip journey for 2 people and a car was pretty good. Well condsidering prices of other ways eg- Euro Tunnel this was a cheap opition. We decided to travel in the early ... more

Norfolkline is a ferry company which runs huge ferries between Dover and Dunkirk (France), Liverpool and Belfast, Liverpool and Dublin and finally between Rosyth (Edinburgh) and Zeebrugge. You can book tickets in advance (highly recommended). If you book online first visit to www.cashback-rewards.co.uk in order to cash in the 7% cashback from the price of your ferry ticket. If you don’t want to bother with the cashback you can book your ticket at www.norfolkline.com. Booking a ticket ---------------------- The booking process is quite simple. You have to choose the direction and the date of ... more

Advantages Advantages Nice ships, relaxing crossings, cheap fares, no coach parties

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not as frequent crossings as others, longer journey time

Norfolk Lines This review deals solely with the Dover-Dunkerque route. The crossing takes approximately two hours, and the fleet has been modernised over the last eighteen months, with ships such as the Maersk Delft now operating. For me the decision when taking a crossing is to decide whether to take a boat or the tunnel. Advantages with Norfolk Line: 1) The price - unlike for the Tunnel, you do not pay more if you stay more than a few days. For the tunnel, one you stay more than 5 days, the cost rises appreciably. For our last crossing of 8 days, the cost was €86 for the return, which ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, Clean, Simple and No Crowds!!!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Primarily Frieght Orientated

Bit of Background Information. Normally we holiday in Normandy so would generally use P&O from Portsmouth, but this year decided to return to Austria - thus alternative ferry routes were needed. Norfolkline Themselves. Norfolkline have been operating for about 4 years now between Dover and Dunkerque in France. The crossing time is roughly 2 Hours. They have built a very successful freight route using three purpose built ferries. For the last couple of years they have been taking bookings from Cars, Motorbikes and Motor Caravans etc. No coaches or footpassengers. Because they are mainly freight ... more

    Advantages Advantages Very good value

Disadvantages Disadvantages No choice of routes, journey not very enjoyable

I was a relative novice at cross-channel ferry travel last year when my boyfriend and I decided to go on a driving holiday in France. As my family had always preferred to go further afield for summer holidays, I hadn’t been on the regular cross-channel trips that most of my friends seem to have experienced, and my only prior crossing had been on a school trip some ten years earlier. Unfortunately, as we chose to travel with Norfolkline, my second experience of crossing ‘La Manche’ was not a particularly pleasant one! We booked our crossing through ‘Leisure ... more

    Advantages Advantages Reliable

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Not many facilities

I used Nortfolk Lineon the 4th of April 2007. There were alot of people on board this ferry, which may have been the reason of Easter. I travelled from Liverpool to Belfast. The journey was 7 hours. The ferry was scheduled to leave Liverpool at 10:30am, but did not leave Liverpool til 12 noon. The staff were friendly, just as much as average staff on ferries. I thought paying alot more for Norfolk Line, and having to stay on board for seven hours that there would have been more facilities to do, and the staff would do as much for the customer. The ferry was kept very clean. It looked well ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap, standard

    Disadvantages Disadvantages expensive on board

I have used Norfolk Line ferries between Dover and Dunkerque twice now for quick januts to the continent because at the prices, they are reallt cheap and it can be an excellent get away. dunkerque is in easy reach or Lille and other cities and also once we went to Paris from there. The ferries start from £19 return for a car and 4 passengers and that is the price I have paid twice now. I think that it is very cheap and it makes going away when you are young or with a family easy and cheap. I even got this fare when travelling in the middle of August so it doesn't seem to me like one of those ... more

Advantages Advantages Economical, quiet, no school/coach trips, good food

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can't think of any, unless you are a shopaholic

I've travelled several times to France, by ferry, and have tried various routes and companies. From now on I will only ever travel by Norfolk Line. As we travel by motorbike we don't need to book, we can just arrive and drive straight on, but we do book, just in case it's full on-line, very easy and quick. But if we want to change the travel time or date, we just turn up and they do that for us, and put us on the very next ferry, no hastle at all. It is very cheap on a bike, about £50 return, depending on time of year and time of day travelling. It is a very relaxing start to the holiday ... more
