Advantages: Good way to pass an afternoon or morning out of the Melbourne sun. Disadvantages: Not really much to see, but still worth it
To be honest there is not really a lot left to see of the original Gaol, as most of it was pulled down to make way for the University.
All that is left is on three story wing, though it is the wing which contained NED KELLY prior to his execution.
The most famous exhibt, thanks to BILLY CONNELLY, are the wanking mits, displayed in a case in Cell No 13 on the ground floor.
A guide explains via, a model of the gaol what exactly you can see, and ... ...wander round visiting each of the cells, all of which are open, though there are over 30, and in my view once you've seen one bare cell you've seen them all. Story boards in some cells explain the history of transportation & the Australian Penal system, plus the history of the Gaol and the story of Ned Kelly.
