    Advantages Advantages Very Scenic

Disadvantages Disadvantages Ducking out of the way of Paragliders.

We decided on Turkey this year as there were a few sites we wanted to visit, and Olu Deniz seemed a good base to achieve this. We booked two weeks staying at the Perdikia Hotel thru Thomsons. The resort is heavily sold on its Blue Lagoon, the most photographed place in the Turkey Brochures. You land at Dlaman Airport, which is about an Hours Transfer, this used to be longer but they have now opened a new Tunnel, saving a climb over the mountain. The drop into Olu Deniz is down a steep winding road, lined with advertising boards, not the best of first impressions. It is a definately a resort ... more

I just got back from a two week break in Oludeniz, Turkey, and I can say without a doubt that it is the best holiday I have ever been on. We had such good service from the fabulous staff at the hotel and so much loved the pretty, lively little town and stunning lagoon that we’ve already booked up for next year. The resort (Oludeniz): Oludeniz is a small town surrounded by mountains on three sides which has recently become a popular destination for British tourists. It is traditional enough to feel as though you are in a foreign country, yet it is a lively place both at night and during the day ... more

Advantages Advantages beautiful scenery, friendly people, cheap prices

Disadvantages Disadvantages lack of infrastucture, mosquitos

Recently there have been a couple of articles in the Scottish press criticising Turkey. This may be political manoeuvring following the murder of a Turkish asylum seeker in Glasgow, but I feel it is unfair not to respond to the negative image portrayed. We holidayed In Olu Deniz this year and I can honestly state that it is the best holiday our family has ever had. Even the teenager from hell enjoyed himself. I have given information under a number of headings to help casual readers. Climate. We were in Turkey for the first two weeks of July. It was hot to begin with and just got hotter ... more

Advantages Advantages Sun, Sea and Lovely People

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Mosquitos and Paragliders

What a difference 16 years make? Olu is still and always will be beautiful place and the people are just as friendly, but where there were a few tiny cafes with goats and chickens running about and accommodation resembling the holiday camps of old, there are now numerous cafes, bars, shops and some very nice hotels. Gone are the days when you sat at rickety tables on rough ground and cooked meat on tiny barbeques brought to your table. The once quiet farming village has turned into a bustling town with lots of visitors and music playing most of the time. Although I will say that the noisy ... more

    Advantages Advantages A perfect Holiday

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too Hot Mid Summer

I holidayed in Ölü Deniz in June 2000, so all costs (in GBP) are based on that time period. Also due to the rate of development there may be more facilities available now, than there were when I visited. Ölü Deniz is situated in South West Tukey. It is a hotel based resort so is dead out of holiday season. The nearest big town is Fethiye. It's the site of the filming of the 1980 (awful) film , "The Blue Lagoon" which featured Brooke Shields. It sits under a 6,000 foot mountain called Babadag, which is used for paragliding. The location is gorgeous, and the local people are very friendly ... more

Don't let the fact that Turkey neighbours Iraq put you off visiting this wonderful country. Although Eastern Turkey is best avoided, and despite the fact there have been a few terrorist attacks this year in other parts of the country, Brits are as safe in Oludeniz as in London. Back in early June 2003, we booked a seven day 'allocated on arrival' late deal through Thompson, which included flights, transfers, insurance, half board, a balcony and a four star hotel for around £260 each, flying from Leeds Bradford (about 10 miles away from where we live). We thought his was an excellent deal ... more

Advantages Advantages Calm, Peaceful, Quiet, Clean and Friendly

Disadvantages Disadvantages Prices Same As UK, A Little Too Much Like Being At Home But Just Hotter.

My Girlfriend and I went to Olu Deniz in 2008 and had such an amazing time. I was a bit apprehensive and curious of what to expect at first but I think what summed up our opinion was at the end when we said we'd happily go back - not something we usually say generally because we don't like to go back to the same place twice, and that way we can see more of the world and experience more etc. It's probably one of the friendliest resorts I've been to. The hotel was lovely and the pool was well maintained and the bar was always looked after by the same two people who we'd built a bit of a rapport ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages The Dolmus crawls back up the mountain.

Olu Deniz. Nestled in an area of outstanding beauty, with Olu Deniz on the beach and Hisaronu on the mountainside looking down over the lagoon. These resorts are about 3klms apart and can be easily reached by Dolmus service. Olu Deniz is one of the most photographed locations in the whole of Turkey, with crystal clear waters, golden sands and beautiful lagoon, this really is a beach lovers paradise. Hisaronu. A lovely bustling hillside village retreat, ousing with Turkish charm and features on many post cards. There are plenty of bars, excellent restaurants and entertainment well into the ... more

Advantages Advantages Small but still plenty to offer.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can't think of any.

I have just come back from Olu Deniz, which was my first taste of Turkey - and I loved it. The resort is very small and secluded, surrounded on 3 sides by mountains. It seemed to be based on a sort of H shape with a road going across the top, then down the main street towards the beach with another road parallel to the beach. We stayed at the Mellis Beach Hotel at the top of the main street, which is next to the Sultan Pepper restaurant. This was the beginning of the resort, really as the street at the top seemd to have a few hotels and small shops but nothing much else. As you walk down the ... more

We went in May this year for 2 weeks and stayed at the Montebello hotel at the top of the resort, although as it's a small resort we were still only a 5-10 min walk from the beach. We paid £295 from Manchester for B and B which was a bargain for the quality of the resort. It is quite small and you won't find many loud clubs, although if you want that you can go to the resort of Hisaronu which is about a mile up the mountainside (70p on a bus). That resort is more touristy, with no shortage of full-english fry-ups and British named restaurants and bars (English Rose, Delboy's etc). It's a bit ... more
