...in the District of Ootacamund or OOTY in short, for about 9 years and have grabbed every opportunity to visit Oot y when I go to India. Ooty is the District HQ of the District. Frankly, in the actual city of Ooty there are a handful attractions. The actual beauty, attractions, nature and interest lies in many places around in the district. For a start, Ooty has a good share of 5 star hotels and other star hotels , average hotels and budget hotels. ... ...Gardens which boasts of flora and fauna from all lands of the world. The collection is exotic and well maintained. The Gardens are built up on the natural contours of the land with very few man made alterations. This gives a unique blend of openess as well as mysticness. When you are in one part of the Garden, the other part is obscure and it gives visitors a chance to be surprised at every turn of the corner. The best of the park comes when there ...

Advantages: A famous Hill station of the Raj. Cool and quiet, a large chunk of History. Wonderful Lake. Disadvantages: None
...Ootacamund means, "A village of huts". It is where the smart set came to cool off. A little history, sigh! Is necessary. John Sullivan, a collector of Coimbatore apparently took a fancy to Ooty in 1819, was the first European to build a house there and had a lake built in 1823. There, that is one fact out of the way, and I always thought that the lake was natural, ho hum. The British, quick to sniff out anything cool in India, were hot (sorry) on ... ...not go to Kashmir. The Ootacamund Club was on Television recently, the lady who keeps it up, albeit slightly seedy, still demands a very high standard of dress, however hot it is visitors are supposed to wear collar and tie. The club is kept as pristine as possible for the remainder of the aged members., staying on because, "It is rather like Devonshire with better blooming roses and three servants". Smart Ooty is rather run-down. The palaces are ...

...they gave an easier name Ootacamund which got further shortened to Ooty.
There are lots of very elegant English looking cottages with chimneys here and some really huge old buildings which were all built a few hundred years ago by the Britishers.
Ooty is situated in the state of Tamil Nadu.It is situated within the western ghats and amidst the Nilgiris( Eucalyptus) hills. The hills were once covered with Nilgiris trees. But many of them have been ... ...other things.Ooty is called the queen of Nilgiris.
There are of course many things to do and see here. The major attraction being the lake and the boating .The lake is really huge and it spreads out in all directions . The last time we were there, our boat got entangled in the sea weeds and stuff growing on the side LOL- it was quite an experience getting the boat out.
There is a really beautiful waterfall about 20 kilometres down the hills called ...

I have been waiting long to write on this topic but never got the time to sit and recollect my experiences during my trip to ooty. So just give me the liberty of telling you a little about how I reached Ooty.
So we first went to Thanjavur (a town, a HOT town in Tamil Nadu) in a friend’s car. We had a Road Trip . I will leave it to your imagination to think what we did on our way. It takes around 11 hours by Mysore and 14 hours from Bangalore ... ...a day, as it was too hot. The place is so ancient! There was no STD booth for kilometers. We left thanjavur at 17:30 by train. And guess what We lost our Tickets! Then to top that we did not have any place to sit. So we sat on the footboard. Our backsides were so screwed. Then we faced hell trying to explain the ticket checker about the lost tickets. We reached Coimbatore at around 01:30 the next day. 9 hours without a proper seat and food! We did ...
