Pani's is a hidden treasure situated between Grey Street and Northumberland Street in High Bridge opposite the Bacchus pub. It's a genuine Italian cafe cum restaurant and bar, run and staffed by Italians with Italian cable TV and great food and beer. To quote the introduction on their excellent web site it is:
"The only truly genuine Italian Café going, where the waiters speak Italian, the coffee is as good as it gets in England and the food is ... ...attached but that has been integrated to make the place even bigger. Even so you often have to queue to get a table on Saturday lunchtime.

So you can check out all the menus and drinks available. On their lunchtime (10 am to 5pm) menu they do a selection of salads, ciabatta sandwiches, toasties and bruschette as well as some standard Italian hot dishes. I tend to go for the excellent "tonno e fagioli salad" ...

Pani's is one of the places in Newcastle where you can buy authentic, delicious Italian panini (sandwiches) and pasta dishes. My sister and I frequent the place lots, I typically go for a warme ciabatta with mozarella, basil, parma ham and olive oil - so tasty. All of the ciabattas are excellent, as are the pasta dishes. You get a huge basket of bread to eat with hot dishes and they serve traditional Italian beers (peroni, moretti) and excellent ...
