    Advantages Advantages Free, beautiful

Disadvantages Disadvantages Could be a bit boring for some

The Pantheon was one of the things in Rome that was high on my to-do list although I’m not too sure why. I knew that it had something to do with the Gods and for me that was enough to want to see it. Getting there The main problem with the Pantheon is getting there. It is not near any metro stop and the closest is Barberini although this is still a 10-15 minute walk away. We headed to the Pantheon after visiting the Trevi Fountain and we got extremely lost. The area has one or two signs saying which way to go but they are very far apart and not helpful at all. The area is full of small, narrow ... more

Advantages Advantages its free to visit and very impressive!

Disadvantages Disadvantages 10 minutes walking from the nearest subway station

Introduction What is Rome still a beautiful city! For seven days I was in Rome. The whole town is really just as a big museum. While walking in the center of Rome you just see so much. While walking through the streets you suddenly see the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and the Pantheon. Accessibility The Pantheon is located in the center of Rome. A walk of about five minutes you're at the Trevi Fountain and with ten minutes you can also look at the Spanish Steps. Near the temple is no subway station. What is the Pantheon? The word 'Pantheon' and 'dome' will often come together in a sentence ... more

The Pantheon in the historic centre of rome is a must on any itinerary for a visit to Rome. It was originally built by the Emperor Adriano (Hadrian) as a temple to all the gods. The architecture is stunning. The entrance is through two massive bronze doors, each weighing many tons, that in its day were the largest doors ever made. Even though much of the embellishments have been lost they are still an object to be admired and amazed by. Passing through those great doors one enters a huge circular Basilica. What makes the Pantheon so unique is it is almost perfectly preserved, (indeed it is the ... more

Advantages Advantages Good watering hole! Nice Square and great people watching.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Crowds - but then what else can you expect?

What a place. Imagine the trouble the Romans took to build this domed building 2000 years ago! The dome is huge and it must have been quite a sight to see even back then! It is quite beautiful and if you do bear in mind the fact that they didn't have cranes and such it is quite a feat of engineering. It also kind of looks bigger from the inside than out, and there is a strange opening at the top of the dome, as if they decided that they couldn't fill the hole! The square around this is beautiful too and the cafes serve nice food although it is at a premium cost. However, if you are a keen ... more

LOCATION The Pantheon is located on the Piazza della Rotonda, Rome. HISTORY The original Pantheon was commissioned by Marcus Agrippa. Built in 27 BC, it burnt to the ground in 80 AD. The current Pantheon was rebuilt in 126 AD by Emperor Hadrian. It is one of the best-preserved of all the ancient Roman buildings. The name Pantheon literally means “All Gods” and is believed to be a temple dedicated to all the gods. It has been in use as a Roman Catholic church, Santa Maria Rotonda, since the 7th century. The Emperor of the time, Phocas, gave it to Pope Boniface who insisted that all the “pagan ... more

    Advantages Advantages Very unusual building

    Disadvantages Disadvantages No

The Pantheon is an interesting place in Rome. It is the best preserved ancient building in Rome, used to be a temple for pagan worshippers but it's now a catholic church. It has a very unusual design. It's circular and the walls roll up into a dome at the top. Dome is not uncommon in many European architecture but a hole in the apex of the dome is definitely worth going to have a look. There are no windows and the building sole's source of light comes from the opening at the dome's apex-which really stands out from other ancient monuments. It is the resting place of many King's of Italy and ... more
