Advantages Advantages So much to do in this great city

Disadvantages Disadvantages Only Ba fly direct from heathrow.

Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love is in my opinion one of the best cities to visit in the USA. It is situated on the Delaware river, right next door to New-Jersey and just 90 miles from New-York. Between 1790 and 1800 Philadelphia was the capital city of the USA and is steeped in American History with a multitude of places to visit. The skyline of the downtown area (known locally as 'centre city') is so similar to Canary Wharf in london's East End that on my first visit on looking out of my hotel window on Benjamin Franklyn Boulevard I thought I was back home. Part of the downtown area ... more

I first went to Philadelphia in May 1998 (as I was in a relationship with someone who lived there). It was my first trip to the U.S. but I immeadiately fell in love with this city. As Philly is one of the oldest cities in the U.S. (and it used to be the capital before Washington D.C.) it has so much history and it's also not as much of a culture shock for Europeans as the style of the city incorporates a lot of European architecture into the American style. I was staying in the Mt Airy part of the city which whilst being quiet surburban is very pretty, and the houses look great. There are many ... more

Advantages Advantages South Street is an amazing place, and Independence Hall & Liberty Bell are a must to visit. I highly reccommend the Philly Phlash also. It's a fantastic way to see Philadelphia.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Enterance to museums are quite expensive, and shops/attractions didnt open until 10am when I was there.

I'm from England and visited Philadelphia in March 2001. I only visited Philadelphia for 1 day, but had an amazing time! There was such much to do there - alot more than I ever expected! I would say you definately need more than 1 day to appreciate it in full. The Amtrak train station is great for people travelling into, and out of Philadelphia. The one thing I would definately recommend is taking the "Philly Phlash", which is a sightseeing bus. It's not your average 'hop on hop off' bus, but runs on the same basis. It costs $4 a day, and is more like a mini bus. It runs in a circle around ... more

Advantages Advantages a centre for every conceivable activity

Disadvantages Disadvantages direct flights only via BA

I first heard of Philadephia thanks to Tom Hanks who starred ina film of the same name - I visited the city and surrounding area in May 2000. What an enjoyable time I had. If you go to this city here are some things not to miss: 1. Travel 1 1/2 to the Chesapeake Bay area - stunning views 2. Go to any of the 1000s of hoagie / cheese steak houses. A cheeses steak is like nothing on earth. It basically consists of mince, melted cheese, mushrooms, oninions, chillis ina foot long sub. You have to try these. 3. Go to the city centre and visit the memorial building where they first made the ... more

Philadelphia, the home of the Cheese Stake, cream cheese, and many other delicious foods, is perhaps more famous for the Liberty Bell and Independance Hall. Philadelphia is a city steeped in history, surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside on the Eastern coast, and full of a rich and varied culture. I have been to Philadelphia and have been very disappointed with this city. Although there is a rich culture and a lot of history, combined with a beautiful city line, there is much to dislike about Philadelphia. The sporting fans are famed for be brutal, especially if you wear another ... more

One of the best cities I have visited with lots to see and do. Arriving at Philadelphia's International Airport, get a train SEPTA for $4 to downtown. I stayed at a B+B because there is so much to do and you only need somewhere cheap to sleep. B+B center city has lots of rooms and I stayed ther for $65 per night In the city centre. Lists of must see visits should include; Independence National Historic Park which has Independence Hall and Liberty Bell, Society Hill, Rittenhouse Square and the Philadelphia Museum of Art which was made famous by Sylvester Stallone running up its steps in the ... more
