Advantages: Beautiful clear, warm sea Disadvantages: Locals will wack up prices for tourists
...in a small town called Polis which is about an hour north of Pafos. This area benefits from being relatively unspoilt so you get to see more of the 'real' Cyprus rather than Pafos which is so commercial now it is pretty much like a hot England! Polis is starting to expand however and a lot more tourists are visiting this area, so unfortunately in the upcoming years it will change quite dramatically. This area is particularly beautiful and benefits ... ...Pafos were travelling up to Polis to take boat trips or hire boats because the coastline is more attractive.
POLIS
Polis itself is very small but definately worth a look if you are visiting the area. It has a small picturesque town square which is full of small cafes which turn into bars at nightime. There are a few little craft and gift shops to take a look at as well. If it's nightlife that you are after then you are NOT going to find it here! ...

Advantages: Picturesque and quiet Disadvantages: Not a particularly lively area
...you are staying in the Polis area then there is undoubtedly going to be a day or two where you will want to travel into Pafos. As I mentioned in my last review it takes about an hour or so to travel to Pafos from Polis and you will either need to hire a car or you can get a bus. Ths bus comes about once an hour and you get it from outside the Old Town Restaurant at the main T-junction in Polis. Don't expect a big posh bus, it's more like a minibus.
... ...here like you get at Polis so you wouldn't really want to go out for very long. This is the reason that lots of tourists staying in Pafos travel to Latchi for the boat hire.
The harbour is crammed full of tavernas which are busy all day and evening, but it really is a lovely spot to sit and have lunch and watch the brightly coloured boats bobbing in the water.

Advantages: Beuatiful Scenery, Very friendly People, Cheap Living (Alcohol, Food, Cigarettes - if applicable), Packed full of activities (especially for trekkers and the adventerous holiday-er), If look hard (-and in unusual places, will find good cheap accomodation) Disadvantages: Not much to do in terms of clublife (unless travel to the nearest biggest city of Paphos), Can be very hot during summer months (although not as much as Dubai for example)
...bigger commercial centres.
* Polis *
We visited polis, and to be honest with you, is very bare, and has almost nothing to do. There are a lot of restaurants with beautiful local culinary delights, as well as a few touristy shops and clothes shops. Apart from that, there isnt much. * Paphos *
If you want to have a real good night out, I would travel to Paphos. Here is much busier, and is about 20 minutes drive from the lodgings in Kritou Terra.
... ...very westernized, and if visit the pier, have some interesting shops.
One place that I will certainly advise, is a wine merchant on the coast, along a new shopping complex pier, and eating area. This shop sells absoloutley beautiful wine, in the most unusual of bottles, that you can continue to re-use.
Unfortunately I ruined my bottle and smashed it, which i was guttered with!! :( It cost me about CYP £ 15, which is about £20 GBP, but well worth ...

Advantages: A beautiful place for relaxing, great views, great food and cheap drinks! The people in Polis are very pleasant and helpful; they treat you like family once you get to know them. Disadvantages: Not a lot of nightclub's for those who want to go clubbing. You need to hire a car to travel to most areas as buses are never on time.
...best holiday i had.
Polis is for people who want a peaceful holiday; it's an ideal location for those who want a quite and relaxing holiday. I was staying near Polis and the area had many great places to eat out and they feed you well for your money! The food is so healthy that you can pig out as much as you like. And am not joking when i say that. There are really nice pubs and bars in Polis that are open till late, but not many clubs. There was ... ...One great Bar in Polis is 'Coasters Corner'; the people in that bar are amazing there so lovely. After having a great time with them until 4am in the morning the owner dropped us to the hotel so that we would be safe (not that we were drunk, the people are just so lovely). But you would always be safe in Polis threes always people around any time, not just that everybody is so friendly. Not just in Polis you can go anywere in Cyprus and it safe anytime.

The place was lovely, basic but clean apartments with good facilities such as Swimming Pool, bar, snack bar, adjoining restaurant etc.
While there we went on a jeep safari around the peninsula - this was an amazing experience. One thing I would say against it is there is not very much to do in the area - we are quite young and felt we needed more.

If i had to give 1 word to describe Cyprus it would have to be Beautiful. In Polis, where our appartment is, you will never meet more friendly, genuine, happy, generous people in the world. I have not long been back from my first ever visit to Cyprus and i must admit, being a very English person, i was sceptical about leaving my beloved England, all be it for 2 weeks. After a few days getting a feel for the apartment, the weather and having to put ... ...and about around Polis. We stopped in a few bars/restaurants for a drink and were welcomed with open arms. We had "the best table in the house" and the food was gorgeous. You feel so healthy when you're over there. I think for everyone reading this, it is an absolute must that you ...
