Pontins at Brean Sands Somerset
Holiday Camps. No longer a hi-di-hi experience with heavy tents that falls down in the midnight rainstorm, or the dirty dancing encounter where your parents assume that you love to sit huddled in the corner whilst some drab old man stands on the stage telling ridiculous and un-funny jokes that make you wish you had stayed at the bottom of the pool and never emerged. These days holiday camps have had a vast improvement ... ...Somerset to the campsite of Pontins where we recently stayed for a week. ***Location : Brean, Somerset***
Brean is situated on the coast of Somerset between Burnham-on-sea and Weston Super-Mare. Brean itself is a very quaint and quiet village size place with sandy beaches running right next to the Pontins campsite right through to Berrow which is another small village size area just down the road. It is about 15 minutes away from Burnam and about ...

...have I been?...I've been to Pontins to check out the scene!!
I first went to Pontins at their Blackpool site three years ago with my husband. I won a three day holiday there courtesy of my local bingo hall, very appropriately on mothers day! Eager to have a small break from family life (three very energetic kiddies) hubby and I pottered off on an all expenses paid trip to sunny Blackpool !!
Despite winning on Mothers day, it was in fact September ... ...had booked the entire of Pontins for the break and had awarded holidays to every club in the country (also Scotland). Travel was laid on with coaches and activities above and beyond Pontins own were arranged.
Several thing particularly struck me about the holiday... firstly that this was not how Pontins would usually function, typically being aimed at families, now being over run by bingo addicts all over 18!! Secondly they had obviously gone out ...

...from a short Break at Pontins Southport with myself, boyfriend and my three kiddies so here is my review. What Is Pontins? Pontin's is a British holiday company founded in 1946 by Fred Pontin. It specialises in offering half-board and self-catering holidays with regular entertainment on offer. Accommodation is usually in the form of chalets. The company once grew to be a major operator of seaside holiday accommodation, but has now shrunk considerably. ... ...tall the customer. Entertainment Pontins and it's Blue Coats do offer a great range of both day and evening entertainment, but if you get good weather during the day the kids don't really want to be indoors watching shows, great if it's raining though. For kids they do magic shows, junior Karaoke, junior talent quest, dance school, disco's, various sporting events and even offer the opportunity to meet scooby Doo. quite a few of these are age group ...

...have only stayed at a Pontins just the once (Thankfully), so I don’t claim to know the ins and outs, the regular prices and places where you may find a Pontins Holiday Camp, I am just writing about my one and only experience. So this opinion will not include the usual information, I’m sure there are plenty of excellent opinions that already tell you the basics; this is basically just a rant about the place.
Right, now that’s out ... ...offer for holidays in various Pontins Holiday Camps, whilst reading through the locations, she noticed one of the camps was in Devon, to be precise it was actually a place called Brixham in South Devon and they were offering a 5 day stay for only £10 per person (as it was the off-peak season), well anyway, my sister suggested we phone up and go down there for a short break, as knowing Devon to be a very nice place, surely the Pontins down there would ...

We stayed at Pontins Brean Sands near Burnham on Sea in Somerset in October 2007. We booked this through The Sun Newspaper holiday scheme, so it cost us £38 for 3 nights and a further £12 for entertainment passes. We decided to take our own bed linen to save another £6. Electricity was thrown in free as part of the deal. This would have cost us around £70 by booking direct with Pontins through the internet, for a weekend in October.
We have stayed ... ...basic and then there is Pontins idea of basic!
This review is my opinion of the Brean Sands holiday park based on the 2 nights that we stayed there. (We went home early as we could not stand it any longer!). The review feels like a bit of a moan at times, but I really can't think of anything else nice to say about the place!
LOCATION
++++++++++
The location is actually very good, the park is across the road from Berrow beach and next door to ...

Advantages: Plenty to do Disadvantages: Price of the drinks!
...there's only one road and Pontins is on it.
So we get there at about 1pm but we cant book in until 4pm, however we get to use the facilities, so we spent a few hours having a drink and splashing about in the pool.
Booking in was not quite the horror others have described. They had 6 Bluecoats working, you handed over your booking letter and received an envelope with your key, directions and some vouchers. Where you got to go was luck of the draw. ... ...Classic apartment we paid for, or the cheaper Budget one, the only difference is the distance to the entertainment's. If we did end up in a Budget apartment then we paid £50 for our linen hire, but we are enquiring and will let you know what happens.
We trotted off to see if we were really in Stallag 13 and were pleasantly surprised. They were in two storey blocks, but tastefully painted with lots of greenery and trees around. Quite a few did look ...

...an opinion by Brianlfc about Pontins and it struck quite a chord with me. In fact, as soon as I read his title, I though I bet he went to Wall Park at Brixham and sure enough I was right. So, just in case you didn’t have enough excitement reading about Brian’s ‘wonderful’ holiday at Wall Park I thought I’d tell you about mine too!
I went with my parents about eight years ago. Mom had seen an advert in the newspaper ... ...Pontins Holiday Camps at a very cheap rate, with coach transport included. Apparently she had always wanted to go to a holiday camp just to see what it was like – Hi Di Hi has a lot to answer for!
I had been once before to the Pontins at Great Yarmouth in about 1980 and whilst it wasn’t luxury it was OK and we had a reasonable holiday, so I said that I would go along with mom and dad on their voyage of adventure!

Advantages: Cheap, cheerful, loads of netball Disadvantages: Tired!!! We have never won it.
Pontins, alongside Butlins, the mainstay of British family holidays, except for a few weekends a year when thousands of netballers flock to Brean Sands for a weekend of serious netball………and some quite serious drinking too.
Our weekend cost around £200 (didn’t pay for it myself) which included 2, 4 berth chalets, and entrance into the tournament. After packing up the car (how much stuff can four girls take for a weekend away) and driving for a couple ... ...to work at this Pontin’s site and as such it was very easy to find. If you forget the directions that Pontin’s send you however I believe that it would actually be quite difficult to find. There are no ‘brown’ signs off the motorway, or around the local roads, so I would always remember the official directions. On arrival…..
You are directed to the reception so that you can check in, on the instructions it is recommended that you do not arrive before ...

...enter the place known as….The pontins Zone.!!! Nooony-nooner-noony-nooner (vague attempt at music in written form!)
Many, many years ago when I was just a small boy, I was kidnapped every year and taken to various prison camps around the country run by Pontins. Children - Fed up with your children, want to get rid of the little sods…err I mean sweethearts for a few hours? Then give them away!!!! ...Welcome to Pontins! Pontins is a well known and apparently 'award winning' holiday centre in the tradition of Butlins and British Holidays/Haven. There are many parks, situated in mostly coastal or countryside resorts in the UK (Including England and Wales) Since William Butlin opened the first Butlins resort (which I must add still stands today as one of the three remaining camps in Ingoldmells, Lincolnshire) interest within the British holiday ... ...be said- the success of Pontins is one which cannot be denied. In almost every well-known coastal location across the UK there is a Pontins resort not too far away. The park also took over Haven's idea of installing its parks in countryside laden areas, expanding to an even greater extent and appealing to older more mature holidaymakers. Later on the company would begin to cater for groups outside of the 'family' band it is famous for, including ...

We are just back from Pontins Southport and to be honest I really did not want to go as I had seen a holidays from hell type of programme the week before we were due to go and it looked really bad like a concentration camp the rooms look horrible and it completely put me off.
But I went got all pack and left early on the Monday morning as we were staying Monday - Friday, as we had booked it through The Sun newspaper for £9.50 collect a tokens holiday ... ...bad but the toys and pontins merchandize are a bit expensive.
Lunars bar - this is next to the amusements, only in it once to watch the Scotland match as it has a big screen.
Downtown Diner - This is really a burger joint, prises were not to bad when you consider what you spend in the likes of KFC Burger King etc husband got a chicken wrap one night before we went back to our apartment which he said was really good, but this is only open at night ...

...We looked at the pontins website http://www.pontins.com/ which is very good and very inviting!! It was showing a deal that if you booked before the end of february you get your holiday half price!! So thats what we went for!

Budget 'Budget apartments offer fantastic value for money and are perfect ... ...The outlay of Pontins itself was quite neat, all apartments were in neat rows of about 10 and looked quite nice!

After a nine hour drive from Glasgow we were looking forward at arriving at our destination however I was a little worried as the week had cost us less than £300 plus you were to get £100 vouchers to spend!
