Advantages: Lots to do, near the beach, Entertainment Disadvantages: Bar was expensive, The chalet, Theme park had gone!!
At the easter weekend we decided to book a late holiday to southport to treat the kids instead of staying at home. We payed around £200 for a budget chalet for the weekend. When we got there we got our keys straight away and went straight to our chalet. When we got in we found the carpet in an poor state. It looked as if it had been bleached, besides that everything was ok. On the night we went to the Fun Factory to watch party time and the cabrets. ... ...couldn't fault the cabreats. The first night was a circus act with glow in the dark equipment. On the Saturday we went and there was a band called 'Power and soul' playing all night. So we all sat down and when they come on they were really loud. You couldn't think because of the noise they were making so we went into the other club to watch the boxing match on telly. On the last night we had a comedy vocal duo on and they were really funny but most ...

Advantages: sea view Disadvantages: not many facilities
Went to Pontins Pakefield, near Lowestoft (claim to fame - UK's most Easterly point) in August 2001. Sadly the weather was appalling, and so we certainly didn't see the place at its best. There are a fair number of traditional holiday camp activities going on: fancy dress competitions, bingo, darts and snooker tournaments , line dancing, etc. Quite a lot for 8-16 year olds in terms of activities (at no additional charge during the school holidays) ... ...much that appeals to younger kids or to adults. Butlins veterans, be warned that there are no fairground rides. The camp itself is pleasantly maintained, but then there ain't that much of it to maintain. Chalets are not as cramped as you might imagine, and have fair sized bathrooms. Food was OK, and plenty of it.
The camp is pretty small, right on the coast (cliffs rather than beach next to the camp) and is a pretty reasonably priced place to go ...

Advantages: great activitys for kids, and great locations Disadvantages: accomodation could be better
great little holiday, the kids love this place, the large arcades with ticket feature so they often spend their time collects and counting thier tickets and swap them on the last day, swimming is great, and entertainment is fantastic, the bluecoats are very friendly and helpful too. restaurant food tastes good and theres a pizza and burger bar too.
great value holiday park, with loads of activitys and all the sites ive visited the area is of great ... ...favourite , and camber sands a close second. its helps when the weathers nice too. love the vouchers you recieve in your welcome pack £75 worth, often never use them all though. accomadation is just fine, some hiccups but nothing major, only once we was moved because ants and flood , but staff helped and was no hassle. fantastic holiday , i highly recommend ...

Advantages: One good place to eat in the reception area Disadvantages: Horrible atmosphere, even the kids didn't want to stay
We went to Pontins at Hemsby and would never, ever, go again. If you imagine the worst council estate ever, you're somewhere close to the accommodation offered. In fact, as we drove towards it, I thought it was an estate and actually said jokingly, "Look, there it is" only to discover that it was actually Pontins. During our stay, my youngest son cried every time we came back to our "apartment" because he just wanted to go home. It was constantly ... ...We ended using Pontins as a base to go out and see attractions near by. We tried to stay out as long as we could so that we didn't have to spend any time in the resort. If you like places where parents feel comfortable letting their 8 year olds out by themselves every evening, then I'd recommend it. The atmosphere was oppressive and you just didn't feel safe.
We left Pontins and went to the Norfolk Broads with my wife's parents. Hiring a boat, even ...

Advantages: There is no need to leave your pontins holiday park for fun and entertainment, as it is all on the premises. Disadvantages: I went to pontins at Blackpool, the holiday site is quite far from Blackpools main attractions.
...we decided to try Pontins holiday centre in Blackpool instead.
Pontins was a great place to visit as you didnt realy have to leave the site for entertainment as they have two family entertainment bars a pub, playpark, swimming pool, an amusement arcade, go-carts, crazy golf, and a snooker hall plus many places to eat.
At pontins Blackpool, your stay is full board, so you have a choice of breakfasts, from cereal and toast to fruit and a fry up. ... ...save!
The good thing about Pontins Blackpool was that you still have the main attractions of Blackpool a short distance away, we found it easier to get an all day ticket for the sight seeing tour bus that stops right outside the entrance to Pontins, as it does take a good 20 minutes to walk to the pleasure beach, you can jump on and off the bus all day.
Overall I would recommend Pontins to anyone considering a holiday at Blackpool , as you can ...

Advantages: reasonably close to town of Southport Disadvantages: grim accommodation
...recently spent 5 days at Pontins Southport on a Sun newspaper holiday break. We have been having these holidays for nearly 15 years and in our experience it was the poorest accommodation we have ever had. Our first impression was the outside- paint flaking off the window frame and a patch in the flimsly front door where someone had obviously kicked a hole in it. Inside we had 1 bedroom and a bed settee in the living area. The carpet here was filthy- ... ...the skirting boards. The bed settee was really only suitable for 2 people to sit on and the other 2 had to sit on grey plastic dining chairs to watch the tiny television. The kitchen itself was OK but the utensils were kept to a bare minimun. Not one glass bowl or casserole dish. The cutlery was to say the least, cheap and would not cause any problems to Uri Geller!! Needless to say we ate out every night in Ainsdale or Southport which both had good ...

Advantages: very cheap Disadvantages: dirty, possibly unsafe, hardly any hot water
we went to southport on one of those £9.50 hols, so we were only there from friday to sunday. the fact that it was cheap and we weren't there long can only be a good thing. the accomodation was dire! beds were comfy etc, but we had no hot water most of the time, with 6 girls that was a bit of a struggle! i dont think it'd had a lick of paint in years. it looked and felt like a holiday camp from the 80s or earlier, very traditional!
the facilities ... ...southport itself, which was a right rip off!!! the fact that they checked your wristbands on the way out, but not on the way in was also a bit odd.
southpirt itself was your average town. the fact that all the nightlife had been shut down due to fighting, and that there were chavs everywhere, was a little worrying! overall, for a cheap weekend it was a right laugh. for familys and people on actual proper holidays, i'd suggest haven instead! ...

Advantages: the entertainment, the friendly staff, we was not bored for one minute Disadvantages: the apartments do need big improvements
...surrounding shops.
The accommodation of Pontins was disgusting the apartments smelt stale, the cooker was filthy, the size of the bedrooms were ridiculous, you cant even shut the bedroom door because the bed is in the way, we were not happy especially as we paid £367.00 for 4 people, it was like living in an army camp, they were not modern at all. We made a complaint and we weren’t thee only ones.
They offered to send a cleaner down and do a re-clean ... ...walking around Barney and the Pontins creatures.
There is also a food store on the site which is slightly pricey from there, then you’ve got a couple of take away places.
There is also crazy golf, pitch and putt, fencing, go karts, little park, swimming pool indoor and out, arcade, pool room, football courts, gift shops, children’s indoor soft play area and the bluecoats do walks around Brixham and adventures for the children, the bluecoats are ...

...4 year old twins to Pontins Brean Sands in Somerset at the end of July and really wished we hadn't. We had a club apartment which is supposedly the highest standard. The sofa bed was impossible to sleep on as it was so uncomfortable, the "bath" was too small for a 4 year old - nuff said. The food was absolutely disgusting. Pakefeild pontins is a really great family resort. i have been going there with my two older brothers and parents for about 7 years and things are just getting better. The is plenty to do for everyone, from the more elderly peole with bingo and adult comedians to captin crocs for the little terrors. There are good sports facilities avalable with table tennis tables to green bowls. The food is set to a very good standard and as much as you would want. ... ...the years have always enjoyed it ememsley with its family feel to it all. All the peole who have been there have always gone back. There are many cabourays avalable throughout the day and night and the bluecoats make everyone feel incredably welcome. the best times to go would be the x-mass time or special event weekends because they are always fully booked and there is always the day ful of activities. Me and my family still go there to this day ...

I used to work at Camber Sands, Rye during 1998-nearly 2000 so would like to add my review as an 'insider'.
Firstly, when Bluecoats are on reception giving out keys, it's because they HAVE to help other teams. They are not necessarily trained to do this job, they are helping - so be nice!
I would not visit Camber Sands as a guest, but that is purely on the accommodation.
The entertainment is great, there's always some sort of show on each night ... ...act. There's not too much on in the day for children, and if you have a complaint that you went to a particular event (20 mins late lets say) and there was nobody there or nothing on, that will be because nobody turned up. Bluecoats will probably come and sit at your table at some point during your holiday and chat with you, if this happens try to be nice to them, yes when you are one you HAVE to act cheesy, but remember that they are people too ...
