The holiday was booked with Portland Direct, which is owned by Thomson Holidays. In February 1999 we visited the one bedroomed apartments at Dunas Club, Corralejo, Fuerteventura. They came with the following facilities : microwave, toaster, kettle & fridge, telephone, TV, hairdryer, iron & ironing board. Portland Direct was recommended to me by my neighbour who assured me that they were very good as they are part of the Thomson group, now World of TUI. She had travelled with them a few times to the Balearics and Cyprus. As you book direct as opposed to booking via a travel agent, you can save money by cutting out the middle-man. The brochure that I booked from (Summer 2002) compared prices on some of its properties with some of the leading tour operators ...

i am hoping no further comments will need to be added to this, but I just want to alert travellers to the Hotel Sheraton, Luxor, Egypt that from May 2008 the hotel main building will be closing for building works, just leaving the reception, restaurant and bar area open. I don't know how long it will take, but at the moment Portland are telling me they have no knowledge of this. I am booked to go in May so want some answers, will let you know when I receive some. We have been trying since Sunday 19th August to speak to customer services about a teletext reservation made with them. Their customer service phone line is constantly busy but when you ring the reservations number where you originally made the booking they just don't want to know and tell you that "customer services is very busy at this time of year" Hello get extra staff in! it can't be all that difficult to train somebody up to the poor standard ...
...the holiday and paid by card after being quoted 3 times the amount of £758 only to receive the invoice with the amount of £798. ...holiday in Cyprus (Paphos) with Portland Direct. Overall the holiday was OK and the Alexander the Great Beach Hotel was excellent. We stayed on a half board basis, but I wouldn't recommend it as the food is only average. Breakfast is excellent, but it is the Table D'Hote meal which is not so good. They do provide a children's menu and options for vegetarians which are very good. If the Hotel changes totally to buffet style then it would be excellent ...
