Advantages: Huge venue, good crowd Disadvantages: Mainstream music
...electrical retail superstore, this particular Powerhouse is actually a large night club set over two floors. Powerhouse is what I might refer to as an “old school” gay club. This doesn’t mean that it’s dirty, seedy and full of men in tight white vests, but it certainly sticks to a tried and tested recipe that reminds me quite fondly of some of the clubs in London I used to enjoy when I was first out and about on the “scene”.
... ...that will strike you about Powerhouse is that it is rather big. The place has a massive capacity and the downstairs dance floor alone is big enough to swallow up most gay clubs that I’ve ever visited. This, of course, makes the place rather popular, which in turn increases the number of clubbers in attendance, so at the weekend you can imagine just how busy the place gets. The overall feel of the place is quite industrial with plenty of stainless ...

Advantages: Easy to make Conversations, Not everyone was rude Disadvantages: High Prices, Some Rude Staff & Customers, Dirty Carpets, Crowded Toilets
...gay pubs and then the Powerhouse on a drinking session take over £100 out with you, (or do what many people seemed to do and that was get into the night club and not buy any drinks or get one drink to last the whole night). The prices might reflect the cost of going out in Newcastle as some people did not seem to recogn that these prices were that high; but I did see a straight bar that night in Newcastle that was selling drinks for a very cheap ... ...powerhouse a fair and a bit generous 2 star rating. It would have to be terrible to get a one star but nonetheless, although it had some good points I will look for another venue if I decide to drink in Newcastle again. If people annoy me on purpose when I have had a drink I am scared of getting angry with them and facing a criminal record! With me being a student the experience cost way too much money but even for people with a very well paid job ...

Advantages: It's on a few floors now Disadvantages: lots of straight people and not many loos
...was written in 2004 the Powerhouse has moved (yet again - three times in about four years!)
The new club is a lot smaller than the previous one but it is spread across more floors.
It seems the only thing that hasn't changed are the prices. £10 entry on a Saturday but it is open from 23:00-04:00 (which I think most clubs are now).
This club is also a maze of stairs and doors. Once you pay your money you can either turn right into the ground floor ... ...DJ stand put in, from there you can go down the spiral staircase (not too good when you've had one too many) and deposit your coat for £1.50 or go to the toilets.
The first floor plays popular music, and has a flashing dancefloor a la Saturday Night Fever (who said it was the year 2007????) unfortunately, at the time of writing, you will get turfed off the dancefloor if you take your drinks on it, so either drink up then dance or don't dance. This ...

Advantages: Reasonably priced Disadvantages: I have to work too to - so cant be there every night!
POWERHOUSE has undergone a massive overhall this last few weeks with the new nights, POPGARDEN, FRIXON on Alternate Saturdays, SKOOL DISCO on Friday nights. The Lights, the sound system and the production - amazing! Craig Wilde, joined the club as Creatvie & Business Director in Mid may andthe transformation has been considerable; from the front of the building with its impressive fassade, now festooned with huge banners advertsing the four major ... ...at the door - its an major improvement.
FRIXON, which could be argued as their flagship night, is packed full of production, from the projection and the VJ to the aural spectical played out by the likes of Paul Martin (FIRE, RUDE BOYZ, BEYOND - LONDON), Lee Harris (SOHO, FIRE & formerly DISCOTEC - London).
A fusion of Electro and Funky housew which keeps the dancefloor packed till dawn - as the club is open till 6am on weekends!
This club has ...

Absolute rip off, All of the pubs on the scene that are owned by Pure Leisure at the weekend are a total rip off, Going into the Powerhouse can cost up to £20 on nights with singers with no option to goto another floor and not watch it, and normal nights around £10,
You will also be stripped of cash at the bar with high prices as a pint of cheapest beer is £3.60 (London Prices!), Personally I would stick with the straight bars as they are cheaper at the weekends, ...
