PRACTICAL-LY NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!
Review of Practical Car & Van Rental by
SeasonTicketless
Advantages: Good car, reasonable rates
Disadvantages: Bad customer service and customer contact
...firms, I plumped to use Practical Car Rental, who were established locally and were part of a national firm. The name was also one that I recognised, which eased my mind somewhat, especially as I had never used a vehicle hire company before, nor did I know anyone who had so I couldn’t get a personal recommendation. In fact, the only thing I knew about vehicle hire companies was an old Watchdog program which I saw years ago that showed a vehicle hire ...

Quite Practical and Reasonable
Review of Practical Car & Van Rental by

Advantages: Lot of branches. Competitive. Good vehicles
Disadvantages: Not many
...have rented hire cars from Practical on three seperate occasions. All rentals have been from their Sea Street,Herne Bay, Kent branch and I have been thoroughly satisfied with the service I received.
Practical have numerous branches in England and usually have a range of cars available for hire. I have rented a Skoda, a Nissan Micra and a Fiat Punto and found that all the cars were virtually new models, had a radio,AA membership and were extremely ...

Very bizarre operation not recommended
Review of Practical Car & Van Rental by
PierreH
Advantages: car was new and nice
Disadvantages: extra charges, no real location, poor customer service.
...return a Saturday, no-one from Practical was there to check the car in, and verify the petrol (at 3/4 full as it was on check out) and the fact that there was no damage, not to verify the return time etc. I was told by the car park staff to give them the keys and the contract copy, which they tossed in a box on the shelf, along with some others. I did not get a receipt. I only thought afterwards that I should have made a copy of the contract, but ...

Beware! Charges for fair wear and tear!
Review of Practical Car & Van Rental by
haddonhill
Advantages: none
Disadvantages: Hidden costs, far from airport, costly insurance
We rented a car through Practical Car Rental last June through Travelocity. We were going to a wedding and had five people and a a few bags, and, according to the website, an "intermediate" would be enough. When we got to Dublin, there was no one at the counter - only a telephone, which I should have been suspicious about. I picked up the phone and explained who we were, our confirmation number, how many bags, and - oh wait! the intermediate is not ...

Quick review of Practical Car & Van Rental
Review of Practical Car & Van Rental by

My wife and I rented Practical at Heathrow, booked on Travelocity. Reservation printout said there was a company shuttle to the car lot. We waited for 45 minutes. Finally called and were told to take the bus (4 Pound/person, they wouldn't refund it). Then there was the hassle to get the Loss Damage Waver as we didn't have documentation from our Master Card (since when is that needed), and then they charge 4 Pounds a day when you decline their insurance. (Yes, it's in the fine print from Travelocity)
The car, an almost-new Nissan Micra was great.
The teaser price on Travelocity is deceptively low. We may have saved a little, but only with lots of hassle. Stick with a reputable company.

Quick review of Practical Car & Van Rental

I agree that customer service is dismal. Not only did we have to pay the 8 pounds for the shuttle service, we were given a car with no fuel. When we called from the motorway, they said they had forgotten to tell us to get fuel. Later they said they had indeed told us. They were more concerned about the aluminum rims than our safety stranded on the M3. Very bad experience all around. Avoid this company and go with a more reputable company at the airport.

Alert - the hidden cost !!!
Review of Practical Car & Van Rental by
mimizhang
Advantages: you get the car that you want
Disadvantages: the real cost is more than they quote to you
I booked my reservation with the company through Travelocity's booking site, because they had a very attractive price for one week rental.
A Big Mistake !!!
Firstly, I had to pay an extra eight pounds to be taken between their rental office and the LHR airport ( This kind of pickup service provided by the National, Hertz and other car rental companies is free ).
Secondly, I had to pay much more than the price that the company had quoted on ...
