Czech it out !!

Advantages: The beauty and ambiance of a lovely city
Disadvantages: A lot of tourists and walking!!

== THE CITY OF PRAGUE == === INTRODUCTION === My husband and I wanted a short break sans kids, having 'done' Paris so many times we decided to try somewhere completely new to us - that place was Prague. We knew little about the Czech Republic before we went, only of its political history and 'Good' King Wenceslas. Wedged in between Germany and Austria the Czech Republic is one of the most comfortable and easy to get around countries of the former ...
...1989, Prague has become one of the most popular destinations in Europe - and it's easy to see why! We took the flight, early October, from Manchester to Prague (just over two hours) not knowing what to expect during our five day tour there - and we weren't disappointed. === GENERAL IMPRESSION === The city is absolutely dazzling, with spires and statues and historical landmarks everywhere you turn. There are remnants of communism situated next to ...

Prague - Our Experience

Advantages: Plenty to see and do, cheap compared to many other European cities
Disadvantages: Cobbled streets so walking can be tough going, hilly in parts

We went to Prague in February 2007. This was our first visit to the Czech Republic. This review gives you an account of our experience of Prague. I have given everything a rating out of 10. Price conversions were correct in relation to the exchange rate in February 2007. ACCOMMODATION: 10/10 We stayed at the Hotel Certovka. The hotel itself was a beautiful 4* hotel. Decoration and furnishings were superb. Our room was on the top (3rd) floor with ...
...the Mala Strana area of Prague (Castle side of the bridge), making it quieter than staying in the Old or New Town areas. There was very little traffic around the hotel. A metro station (Malostranska) was 3 minutes walk from the hotel and there were tram stops next to the metro station and in Little Quarter Square. Charles Bridge was just a few steps from the hotel, with access via a ramp or steps. Kampa Park was a 2 minute walk, going directly under ...

Praha Rocks!!

Advantages: Amazing trip to a beautiful country
Disadvantages: Not enough time to fit it all in

...I wrote my review of Prague as a diary of the things I did while I was there. There is of course much more to see and do but this is an example of a few things I found interesting. So we've arrived in Prague! Where to first? We collect our baggage, quite a short wait... and get a mini bus to the door of our hotel for CZ 840 return which works out at twenty one pounds, which for the length of the trip and for the fact they dropped us off at the door ...
...cheapest form of transport in Prague is definately public, the bus that leaves from the airport and the further tube to get into the city centre costs the equivalent of a couple a pounds, but you would need to be an experienced traveller and confident about finding your way. With a big bag and newly arrived in Prague, we opted for the mini bus (like a big taxi). This is cheaper than a standard taxi and is cheaper still if you can find some others ...

Goldfingers and Bohemians

Advantages: Nice 'n' Cheap
Disadvantages: Cold

...as a thriving city nightlife. Prague is well known for its ballroom dancing and jazz clubs, which we avoided! Here is a brief summary of what we participated in with regards to entertainment! GOLDFINGERS Goldfingers is an extremely classy strip club just of the centre of Wenceslas Square (Prague’s equivalent to Covent Garden/Leicester Sq.). It is at the base of a famous hotel, which was featured in a Bond Movie… which one I can’t ...
...also quite bizarre seeing the Prague firebrigade park up a few engines at one of the ends. They all got their beers out, stood on the top of the engines peering into the ground for the second half! All very different. Bohemians won 2-1 and went top. If only we were there a week later and we could have seen Real Madrid for £1.50! For those that wish to relax to a greater degree attractions such as; The Jewish quarter, St Vitus’s Cathedral, ...

Whistle stop Prague experience

Advantages: Cheap, cheerful, romantic
Disadvantages: Can be very busy, beware of rip off merchants

...be a taster of what Prague has to offer, and my first time experience in this wonderful city. The only way to get a feel for Prague is to get out there and discover it for yourself. My experience **************** Getting there ************** Living in Norfolk meant that the most convenient airport for my girlfriend and I was Stanstead, a one and a half hour drive (abiding by all speed limits and in moderate traffic) away. Out of all UK airports ...
...for both of us. Prague Airport **************** Due to Czech Airlines messing us around we had to book the taxi for 1.30 pm despite our arrival at 12.30. I found that this was the most stressful part since I had read many horror stories of having to 'hail down' a taxi and having to pay up to £100 to get to Prague which is some 15KM away from the airport. We watched people come and go, we watched taxi drivers arrive find their fares and then disappear. ...

Six Weeks in Praha

Advantages: A beautiful city with enough to keep you going for months. Still cheap, if you stay away from the tourist traps.
Disadvantages: Too hot in the summer. Tourist, tourists every where!

...get past the check point, Prague is only an hour or so away. Once the passports have been checked, the driver gets things going as swiftly as possible. While he gets us rolling, his back up moves up and down the aisle, handing back the passports from a tin. The Czech drivers aren't usually fluent in English. On this occasion, a pretty ten-year-old Belgian girl accompanies him, to help with the tricky surnames. There is a frustrating rest stop just ...
...girlfriend, and was rolling into Prague on a blazing summer morning. "Hello Prague!" I yelled, staggering off the coach at Florenc. It was a moment of pre-planned of exuberance that didn't quite come off. My bogus enthusiasm made a passing old lady stare, but nobody else cared. Just another tourist bounding off a coach, eager to test the strength of his stash in a city where everything is cheap, and the beer's even cheaper. The coach got me there ...

Czech this out

Advantages: Beautiful place, amazing sights round every corner, lots of culture
Disadvantages: Some really bad accomadation, hygiene in a few bars / restaurants is lacking

Prague is a magical place, a massive mix of different architectural styles and elements of past rulers dominate this lovely city. I visited Prague for 5 days on a tour of Europe. On arrival from Munich after a few days at the Oktoberfest, relaxation and chilling out was my number one priority. The train from Munich takes about 4 hours and on the approach, you get to see the real side of this country, which is a bit of a mix. There's quite a bit of ...
...in Prague station, which isn't the nicest of places, I'd been told that at the station would be waiting a load of touts trying to get me into their so called hotels and so there was. I was silly enough to fall for this twice as the 2 hotels that I was persuaded to stay in by these guys were absolutely terrible, but about £5 a night. If you do get a room from one of these touts, make sure it is the room they show you on their portfolio, as this one ...

From Prague with love

Advantages: A magnificent city
Disadvantages: The taxi drivers have a bad reputation

...My wife and I visited Prague in July/August 2002. This op adds nothing to the 20 or so Ciao ops on Prague I have previously read. My description is simply a diary of our holiday a la Judith Chalmers. PRAGUE THE FIRST TIME I first visited Prague with my parents in 1979. We went on a coach trip of the Iron Curtain countries with about 50 other people. The countries we stayed in were Holland, West Germany, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Austria and Belgium. ...
...I was given a free Prague guidebook by British Airways Holidays. I spent a couple of weeks reading it. In reality only 5% of what I read was needed on the trip. I also surfed a couple of Prague tourist sites, which were helpful. I made sure that I knew the Czech words for men, women and toilet. FLIGHT As you can imagine Heathrow Terminal 1 at the end of July was teeming with people. There were kids running all over the place. Also many passengers ...

...to organise a day in Prague (we were flying home from Prague airport). We arrived in the city on an overnight train at 8am - a day of sightseeing did not seem possible, let alone enjoyable! After leaving our baggage at the hotel we set about exploring the city. First stop breakfast. No where was open. Hmmm. Much as it is against my principles we ended up eating at Tesco coffee shop (yes, really). That over with, we were raring to go. Luckily one ...

We visited the palace (which was closed for renovation, but we sneaked in anyway). Even with the builders and JCBs it was obvious that the palace gardens are of a standard usually seen in English stately homes. Except this was in the middle of a city. We saw so many churches with tales to tell that I can no longer ...

I can't wait to go back to Prague

Advantages: A beautiful city
Disadvantages: People still smoke in restaurants

I recently spent a week Prague and fell completely in love with the city. I'm not going to go into great depth about all the attractions that I visited, I don't want to bore people, so I'm just going to go over the basics (or at least what I consider to be the basics). -Travel/Transport- Transport in Prague is excellent. They have a metro as well as buses and trams so getting around the city is never a problem. For me there were three things that ...
...to find my way around Prague but with a good map and a good pair of walking shoes there's not really any reason why you need to use the transport if you prefer to walk. Walking through Prague is really a pleasure. The city is really beautiful and although it was obviously a bit cold (it is winter) I still really enjoyed walking around. I found Prague to be a very pedestrian friendly city. There are a lot of crossings so there's never an issue with ...

Also we heard on the tourist grapevine that the clock in the old town square would display an awesome scene when the clock struck the hour, after gazing up in anticipation for 10 minutes to see a feeble skeleton emerge for a door and pull a cord to ring a bell we felt a liquid refreshment was in order. It was noon when we next arose and none ...

We had perfected the technique on our second, after setting fire to the table ...

Prague, A City For Everyone

Advantages: Cheap. Magnificent architecture, great beer, good food, good shopping
Disadvantages: Touts. Not too many Czechs speak English.

...the post "Velvet Revolution" period, Prague has become a major tourist destination. Eastern European food dosent perhaps enjoy a great reputation but Czech cuisine has Austro-Germanic influences and you can eat really well in Prague. Czech traditional cuisine is hearty and some of the fish dishes, especially carp, are very refined. They also have some specialities which are very well prepared including tripe, sauerkraut, goulash and a range of sausages ...
...a revered social institution in Prague for several hundred years and perhaps its not surprising that the Czech Republic ranks first in the world in terms of per capita beer consumption. This country also had the first beer museum in the world and legendary Pilsner beer originated in the city of Plzen in1842 whilst the first Budweiser was developed in the Czech Republic. Prague's U Fleku pub houses probably the most famous microbrewery in the world ...

an aesthete's review

Advantages: There really is something for everyone. And it's cheap. The beer's excellent, the buildings incredible. Apparently Czech women are also sexy. Transport is efficient, reliable, and easy to master. There is no shortage of things to do.
Disadvantages: Beware of high season. A lot of people will hate you, simply for being tourists, and you will probably get rippped off at least once. The language is really hard to master. Our two guidebooks couldn't even agree on the word for "one". Backpackers.

...holidaymaker. In truth, we chose Prague because we had been told so many times that it was ridiculously cheap, rather than because it's so fabulously pretty. But fabulously pretty it is. The city is easily negotiable, as it is laid out in several small 'quarters,' each surprisingly different from the other. The main areas to hit are Mala Strana (Little Quarter), Stare Mesto (Old Town), Nove Mesto (New Town) and Hradcany (Castle Quarter). Other interesting ...
...stop on a jorney, or just for a day or two out of the Czech Republic; for example Vienna, Salzburg and Budapest. MALA STRANA The little quarter is a great place before 10pm. It features a huge, though unfeasibly steep and unnavigable park (Petrin Hill), with astonishing views over the city, if you can reach the top. At the foot of Petrin you find the charming, but not necessarily quiet, streets of Mala Strana proper. You may be interested to find ...

Disadvantages: Tricky language to grasp.

...carted my mate off to Prague to sample the nightlife. He wasn't too sure - after all, the Czech Republic doesn't feature in most people's top ten destinations for pubbing and clubbing. Well, those people have no idea what they are missing... Most travellers will mention the prices, and how ridiculously cheap it all is. Out in the villages, you might pay around 20p a pint. People also moan that Prague is becoming more commercialised and expensive ...
...two quid again. Prague is a mixture of the old, modern, absurd, magnificent, astonishing, and just plain ugly. Everything within spraying distance is graffitied. For a capital city, it is quite small, and anything you should want to see is within comfortable walking distance. If not, the trams and Metro allow access to most areas, once you've deciphered the signs and maps. Czech is not an easy language for beginners to get on with. Via internet we ...

Beautiful City

Advantages: Cheap, lovely sights
Disadvantages:

I recently visited Prague and loved very minute of it. It is the first Central European City that I have visited and I wasn't sue exactly what to expect. When you arrive at the airport you'll be amazed at how modern the airport seems to be.
