A quick guide to Puerto Pollensa
I'm no great traveller and I'm even less of a travel-writer. This may hit the spot, it may not. Let's see shall we?
I've been visiting Puerto Pollensa on the north-eastern tip of Mallorca for 25 years now and I can quite categorically say, it's my favourite part of the world. Many a wonderful holiday has been spent there and each time I go, a flood of happy memories come to me like the gentle lapping of the water ... ...can give way to new, Puerto Pollensa has retained the charm that so enticed us in the summer of '82 and just about every year since.
First of all though, if you're reading this hoping to get an idea for your next stag or hen-party destination then move along please, there's nothing to see here. You won't like it. Go to Blackpool instead. For the rest of you who don't like their holiday being spoiled by drunken thugs in union jack t-shirts then read ...

Advantages: Great beach, very attractive, good shopping Disadvantages: Poor for sight seeing, long transfer, no trendy nightlife
Puerta Pollensa is about 75 minutes transfer from the airport and is located in the extreme north east of Majorca.
The town itself is notable for its extensive harbour with lots of local fishing boats, holiday boats and some bigger cruisers. It also has an excellent beach stretching towards Alcudia. The beach is clean and sandy. It has hamacas and parasols all the way along (2000 charge was 1300 ptas for two hamacas and a parasol per day. For swimming and for childrens safety the whole seafront is very good. The beach also has resources for hobie cats, wind surfing, and the banana.
From the harbour boats are available for charter and there are also glass bottomed boat tours daily. Ferries to Formentor run hourly.

If you are considering Puerto Pollensa as a family holiday destination do not hesitate. Having just come back from two glorious weeks I heartily recommend it. Puerto Pollensa is a quiet resort in the north of Majorca. It is situated in a beautiful bay and as a good beach and a wide variety of good restaurants. The accommodation that we stayed in was very good (Habitat apartments). It had 3 swimming pools, nightly entertainment and children’s activities ... ...to travel Puerto Pollensa is a great place. The bus service is very good. You can visit busy Alcudia or if you like something even quieter and idyllic Cala San Vicente. A 15-minute bus ride gets you to Cala San Vicente, which is possibly the most beautiful place on the Island. Even so Cala San Vicente is amazingly quiet. It has 3 beautiful bays and the snorkelling is incredible. You can also travel by bus to several other local places such as Monasteries. ...

Advantages: Peaceful Disadvantages: Distance from airport
...island is a resort called Puerto Pollensa which bears no resemblance to the lively southern part of the island. It is heaven on earth. A lovely, peaceful resort which has not seen that much development and retains a very spanish feel to it. Set on a beautiful long, white, sandy beach with the clear blue water on one side and mountains on the other, it truly gives a diferent perspective to Majorca. No discos, just friendly little restaurants, bars ... ...trip though is the water park just outside Palma. Another water park is the one at Alcudia, just 15mins from Puerto Pollensa, and one better suited to younger children. A tip though - arrive early as all the loungers with umbrellas for shade get snapped up very quickly. ...

Advantages: Very family friendly, good range of restaurants Disadvantages: None!
...visit, we decided to give Puerto Pollensa a summertime visit in June 2004.
Once again, we stayed in a privately owned property, this time a huge apartment at the Pine Walk side of town. The resort had developed somewhat since our previous visit, though not to the detriment of the place (leaving aside the presence of Burger King!). P.Pollensa still retains its special spanish qualities, with very few commercialised restaurants. A picturesque setting ...
