All Rhodes keep leading us back here...

Advantages: wonderful cheap break
Disadvantages: basic facilities

...husband and I went to Rhodes was in 1997 as a result of a late getaway deal, we had a couple of the larger Greek Islands under our belt but not much knowledge of the Eastern Med – we just wanted a cheap, sunny holiday. We got a two-centre deal, presumably left over from two package trips, that suited us down to the ground. Our first week in Rhodes was spent in Lindos, the perfect chilled out holiday town. I remember the coach winding down ...
...we have stayed in in Rhodes has been kept spotlessly clean for us. We spent our second week in Rhodes a few km north of Lindos in the quieter resort of Haraki. This used to be a fishing village, and is now the site of a clean, quiet pebble beach, some friendly bars and a couple of excellent tavernas. The accommodation had a similar level of specification but a lot more elbow room, including a veranda with table and chairs. We had a lovely, lower ...

Disadvantages: accomodation can be basic

...at :http://myweb.freecasa.com/SHEP5767 thanks. Rhodes is one of those nice little Greek islands. The island is also known as Rodos. I was lucky enough to be able to visit it when my husband decided to surprise me with air tickets as a birthday present. Reading all the paperwork, I discovered that I would be flying out on July 10th 1999; the accommodation to be chosen on my arrival. I was a little worried about that, and also the fact I was going ...
...arrived safely in Rhodes airport and made my way to find the rep, who informed me that I would be staying in Lindos in a small apartment. Yes, she did mean small... The apartment was in whitewash style like most Greek places, and inside had one room and two beds, a broken wardrobe, sink, small fridge and two electric rings. Also a toilet/bathroom (very tiny - no bath, just a shower). If you decided to use it the whole room was soaked and the water ...

Excursions from Rhodes

Advantages: So much on offer! Not just Greece.
Disadvantages: None

...be thinking. Indeed it is! Rhodes is only an hour away from Marmaris by catamaran, a reasonably inexpensive crossing, about £15 per person. If that sounds expensive just think how much money you can save on shopping in the resort. The best buys are fake but very convincing clothing and jewellery. Your friends back home wont know the difference! The worst buys are perfumes, dont even go there! Fine fragrance for 5 minutes, cat's wee for half an hour, ...
...of souveniers. Back on Rhodes itself, why not try scuba diving! I had never dived in my life before, or even snorkelled, but I had a ball under the sea. You can join trips at Mandraki Harbour in Rhodes Town which take you round to Kalithea, an old Roman spa resort. This was such a beautiful place to dive and so handy as there's a beach, a diving platform, the old spa site itself and a restaurant, 5 minutes walk away. We seen octopus in a cave, shrimps ...

Rhodes in a Nutshell

Advantages: Golden sandy beaches, great weather, great food
Disadvantages: Euro has made it a little more expensive

...the travel agent said – Rhodes for 1 week in June. Sounded wonderful, but we didn’t know where we were going to end up. We got on the plane and landed at Rhodes airport. “Where are we going to?” I asked. “St Paul’s” came the reply. I had never heard of it. Onto the bus we got and came to a little tiny village about ¾ of an hour from Rhodes town. “Lindos” the coach driver called and we were huddled off the bus and lead through a maze of tiny houses ...
...heat does become stifling. RHODES TOWN Rhodes town stands on the same site as the ancient town, although is probably slightly smaller nowadays. Construction of the ancient city began in 408 BC so the new town has history stretching back over 2,400 years. Rhodes is home to golden, sandy beaches and plenty of hotels, restaurants, greek tavernas, bars and nightclubs. The medieval town is still in use by some 6,000 people who work and live in the ...

When I met colossus of Rhodes!

Advantages: Exciting and fullfilling
Disadvantages: Humid

I went to Rhodes in the year of 2002, another family holiday! This was a late deal. I found that actually the only thing that dissapointed me about this holiday was that, when I stepped of the plane from the airport I was attacked by this sudden burst of humidity and I hated it, from then on I knew this is what it was going to be like throughout the holiday, but I didn't let it get to me too much! I stayed in a town called Theologos, in a hotel ...
...place where the colossus of Rhodes stood, high into the cloudes, what is left now are 2 stags, where his feet would be, this i was amazed to see as the statue must have been very big and would have taken a very long time to build. Near there was also an underwater aquarium, which had a few different species but not a great deal. The next stop in the week was the butterfly village, this place is enchanted, a long drive up the hill, quite scary as ...

Rodos Village Mitsos - Kiotari

Advantages: Lovely friendly island with great local grog!
Disadvantages: Some of the accommodation ...

...late evening flight out to Rhodes direct from London Gatwick and arrived at the Rodos Village Mitsis around 3.15am. The hotel was deserted save for two reception staff and so the scrum to the front of the queue started, with a plane-load of tired holidaymakers - mostly families with small children - desperate for their beds. There were limited seating facilities in the very grand foyer - designed mainly for aesthetic appeal rather than functionality ...
...a relief to fly home the following Saturday evening, to warm beds and peaceful nights. I would thoroughly recommend that you fly to Rhodes and enjoy the scenery and the beautiful Old Town. But avoid Rodos Village Mitsos at all costs, you will wish you'd saved your money! ...

Gem of an Island

Advantages: Something for everyone
Disadvantages: Too hot for some in mid summer and Lindos too steep for elderly or infirm

Rhodes a jewel in a crystal sea. The beauty of Rhodes is that there is something for everyone, from watersports in some of the clearest water I have seen , to walking or hiking in outstanding countryside, to sunbathing in almost guaranteed beautiful weather, to just doing what comes naturally in the bars and nightclubs on the island. I have stood on a mountain and been able to see most of Rhodes, I have stood on the southern tip of the island and ...
...this and a lot more. Rhodes Town is a typically bustling Mediterranean capital surrounding the ‘Old Town’ which is an amazing mixture of Ancient buildings and earthworks, Street market and Carnival. The ‘Old Town’ stands adjacent to the harbour which usually has some of the largest and most expensive yachts in the Med ‘tied up’ there. The food, all over Rhodes, is excellent and reasonably priced. From the Restaurant to the Taverna on the beach or ...

Rhodes is great, but pick your resort carefully!

Advantages: Lovely and hot, relaxed atmosphere
Disadvantages: pebbly beaches, very windy!

I went to Rhodes on a last minute deal last year, and I must admit I had a fabulous time. This could have had more to do with my friends than the location itself. I cannot stress enough, though, that Rhodes has many different resorts and they are all of a very different nature! I was staying in Rhodes Town with a couple of friends as we had specifically asked to be as far away from Faliraki as possible! We had seen the programmes on tv and had decided ...
...Rhodes town was beautiful - really picturesque - the old town was great to just wander around and see the sights, and get thoroughly lost in! The beach at Rhodes town, however is very pebbly and uncomfortable and extremely windy! We found plenty of other sandier, more sheltered beaches on the island though so this was not a problem. As we were traveling on a tight budget the hotel we stayed in was rather limited - three beds in a very small room ...

RHODES some things never change

Advantages: Variety
Disadvantages: Tourism galore

Rhodes is a large island, great for hikers and bikers. The Old Town is probably the best preserved Medieval city on earth. And the scary thing is- it's still being lived in. When the tourists thin out in November and the Disneyland of mean little shops finally shut- the old town continues- dark and smelly- but authentic. Rhodes town is a big night life spot. Discos galore. Difficult to find a decent place to eat- pretty much the same fare everywhere. ...

Rhodes.

Advantages: Good value, lots to do, lots to see
Disadvantages: Not in the Inidian Ocean or the Carribean

...Guns of Navarone. Visit Rhodes and relax, well thats a waste of a holiday. Rhodes is full of things to do. In length the island takes about 1 hour to drive and about 20 minutes to drive across. When you go to Rhodes you should be ready for every type of activity; Rock Climbing, take the climbing course and climb the Navarone cliff, as seen on the Guns of Navarone movie; Water Sports are very popular in Rhodes, I recommend the Marco Polo boat tour ...
...is restricted to Faliraki and Rhodes Town. Rhodes is more expensive, where as Faliraki is all Happy Hours and Free Shots. Faliraki works off the basis of two roads, Bar Street and Club Street, they are self explanatory. If staying there though be prepared not to sleep.; Sightseeing, there are things to see all over the island, ancient villages, the castle at Lindos, the harbour at Rhodes Town, the monastry at Psambika and the crazy locals with their ...

Holiday Hotspot!

Advantages: Ideal holiday spot
Disadvantages: Heatwave is restricting!

I was fortunate enough this year to spend a week on the Greek island of Rhodes, it was the best week of the year. The island simply oozzes holiday! I went to the quieter reort of Pefkos which is a cheap taxi ride away from the ever popular Lindos. There is so much to do on the island it is ideal for families, couples and party animals. The place for the aprty animals is Falaraki, lots of clubs to choose from and enough cheary places to eat at once ...

Pumping Rhodes

Advantages: Great holiday destination
Disadvantages: a bit too hot.

Faliraki was once a fishing village. Still is really, but now the fishing is done in the bars! Only a few hours away from Turkey, we jumped on the boat and spent a day at Marmaris – Er, big mistake! If you are blonde – you’re in trouble!! We went to the bazaar to pick up a few bargains, I couldn’t cope with the heat, I decided to sit in a carpet shop all day nursing my hangover from the night before under air conditioning. ...
...locals and got some good deals. I would recommend Scuba diving. Cost about £30.00 for the day, that included an hour and ½ diving session around a ship wreck, training, coach and a boat ride. We also hired bikes, rode bananas and donuts, and hired a speed boat for a couple of days – I got a new nick name “Captain Cod Eye”. Faliraki offered a really good selection of bars, a downside being the Greek law – closing too early, ...

Rhodes Town, it's Magic!

Advantages: Lots to see, warm friendly people.
Disadvantages: May be too crowded for some people

We stayed in Rhodes Town this summer, the first time we have been, and I can honestly say that it is the best place we have ever been to. The place has everything, good restaurants, bars, clubs etc and the beaches, although a little crowded are quite good, notably the one they call "windy" beach where the welcome breeze means you can sunbathe without being overpowered by the heat. We stayed in a central part of what is known as the New Town which ...
...to the Old Town which has to be visited to be believed. There must be literally thousands of shops, bars and tavernas within this ancient walled city, all in narrow, cobbled streets which are like a giant labyrinth where you find new places to see each time you visit. On top of all of the places to see, you are surrounded by the most friendly and welcoming people you could ever wish to meet and with the good rate of exchange at the moment you get ...

Going back again...

Advantages: Superb family friendly resort
Disadvantages: Can get too hot!!(is that a disadvantage!!?)

...and great value for money. Rhodes Town is a lovely place to visit, especially the Old Town- watch though because prices can vary quite considerably in the restaurants. When youre in Rhodes Town why not go over to Marmaris in Turkey? Needs to be booked in advance as you need your passport to get a visa etc. Cost us about £100 for the 4(including entry into Turkey), VERY rough crossing- if youre not keen on water dont do it!! When you get to Turkey ...

Roads to walk in Rhodes

Advantages: friendly people, always warm, great food
Disadvantages: pebbled beach

We stayed in Rhodes town itself, which was not to far from the airport and within bus and taxi rides to other towns. I must admit it had to be one of my best holidays ever. The entertainment is nothing like Benidorm they it is quite but not to quite they do have music on but it is more of a relaxing holiday, so if you are looking for someplace with the hussle and bussle of benidorm this is not the place, but on saying that there is just so many ...

The restaurants are all great never once had a bad meal in any of them and we ate out every day and night. The shops are brilliant I have never seen so many shops sell so many umbrellas, you get every colour and design even designer ...
