Getting into Rome is pretty easy too. €11 gets you a one-way non-stop train ride called the Leonardo Express to Roma Termini, which, not surprisingly is Rome's main terminus station. This is scheduled to cover around 20-odd miles in 31 minutes, so non-stop it might be, an 'express' it isn't. Beware - the area around Termini is akin to London's King's Cross, i.e. a bit of a dump these days, complete with 'unofficial taxi drivers' and several ... ...- apparently it's not just Rome that was built on seven hills but each metre of pavement has come out in a kind of miniature sympathy. For goodness sake bring sensible walking shoes, hiking-trainers or whatever; you'll be glad to did.
b) Rome's two- and four-wheeled road users will park anywhere and even if it against the law, no-one seems to care. This includes draped around street corners and obliterating pedestrian crossings, leaving the unsuspecting ...

...desk back in London, my Rome trip seems like a lifetime ago and a million miles away...
*****Day 1*****
I flew out to Rome on Friday, about lunchtime, for a trip I had booked over a month ago through Expedia - which my boyfriend said I could have got much cheaper, but since I don't like sleeping in doorways, I thought it was worth the extra money to get a flight at a reasonable time and a decent hotel.
I booked the Hotel Aris Garden, a 4-star ... ...after 10:30pm, having arrived in Rome at 5! I felt very tired & sweaty, so went straight to my room for a shower. The room had a huge bed, one wall was a window from waist height to ceiling for the whole side of the wall, there was a tv, phone, wardrobe with extra sheets and pillows, fridge (I didn't touch the drinks, honest!), nice little bathroom containing bath/shower, toilet, bidet, sink, towels for bath, linen hand towels, linen face cloths, ...

...~ ~ Off course, Rome has far more to offer the visitor than the Vatican alone, which in actual fact is not part of Italy at all, but an independent state in its own right. A visit to the ancient Roman Coliseum is a must. Whenever a filmmaker depicts Rome, it is this structure which is invariably used as a backdrop, and when you visit it in person, it is easy to see why this is the case. It is over 2,000 years old, and in its heyday housed over 50,000 ... ...off course, no visit to Rome would be complete without a visit to the Trevi Fountain and The Spanish Steps, immortalised forever in the film “La Dolce Vita”. The fountain is probably one of the most visited places in Rome. Thousands of people come to admire it every day and to throw a coin in its waters, because, according to the legend, the one who tosses a coin into the fountain ensures his or her return to Rome. The whole city is a ...

...and indeed, only, trip to Rome so far was spent over Valentine's Day this year. My darling girlfriend had arranged it as a Valentine surprise, and even paid for most of it!! So it was already a top holiday before we stepped on the plane!! I'll give you a little bit of background - the Roman Empire flourished for over three hundred years, from the early years BC to the first three centuries AD, before its gradually demise. As ...

...WENT We visited Rome in the last week of March, 2001. At this time it is neither too hot nor too crowded. We packed short and long sleeved t-shirts with long sleeved shirts to wear over the top of these and took a fleece for cooler evenings and a jacket if it rained. The weather was somewhat warmer than it is here and a good deal sunnier.

Both flights were with Air Italia and we were delighted to find ourselves on scheduled rather than chartered flights on two out of the three journeys. (More leg room and slightly bigger more comfortable chairs with enough room for two people to use the arm-rests.) We had checked with ...

My girlfriend and I visited Rome in November 2006 and I would highly recommend it. We went for 5 days and I have to admit it was enough, we got to see so much in those 5 days, the sun was shining the sights amazing and the company suberb. We saw so much, my one gripe would be that everything was too tourist orientated. I have been to Rome twice now, once several years ago when I went on an Airtours day trip and again last October when I was on holiday just outside Rome in the beautiful little spa town of Fiuggi. On both occasions, the tour operator included a guided bus and walking tour of Rome, taking in all the major tourist sites like the Colliseum, Vatican City, Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain etc. The major difference though is that recently, the Roman ... ...you.
The authorities in Rome have however given a reason for this. Last year was Holy Year and the Millennium year and the number of tourists expected prompted a rethink of their traffic policy. Tour operators however have opined that it is simply a case of jobs for the boys and I have to agree with them. The previous system, whereby buses could park reasonably close to major attractions worked well and having experienced the joys of both systems ...

Rome was the capital of the known world two millennia ago and when you walk within its walls today it can still feel as if nothing has changed since then. That is if you are able to ignore the noise of the traffic and hoards of tourists that are in almost constant attendance.

Advantages: loads to see Disadvantages: noisy and stuffy in summer
I have visited Rome several times, always as a tourist. the best accommodation I found was in a family-run hotel (pensione, to be precise), where the hotel occupied floors of an apartment building. If you want to find it, it's a few streets behind the Baths of Diocletian. It was started by Marcus Agrippa, a friend of Augustus, and rebuilt about 150 years later by Hadrian. If you have time, it's also worth going out (bus 118) along the old Appian Way to see the tombs and the Christian catacombs; there's Hadrian's villa at Tivoli and Ostia Antica, too, so you could easily fill a week. ...

We visited Rome whilst interrailing last year and it is now on of my favourite cities in the world. Not only is it beautiful and full of interesting places to visit, but it was also one of the cheapest places we stayed and the food was insurpassable.

Vatican City - an incredibly amazing place, which contains so much art and history it's almost overwhelming. And if you do go, be sure to climb to the very top of St. Peter's Cathedral. The view is breathtaking though the journey is exhausting.
There were numerous restuarants, where the food and, more importantly, the wine was cheap. And to finish off the evening, go to the Spanish steps, with some ...

I visited Rome for a long weekend in March this Year and throughly enjoyed my visit.

I visited Rome a few years ago. I have to admit, it left a lasting impression on me. Its a beautiful City. It has so must history, and the buildings are something to be seen.
