Advantages: simple, and friendly Disadvantages: always long queues
STA travel both online and in the store have always been very helpful. They make organising a holiday easy and fun and the staff are always very friendly. Usually the best option for students, as all staff are well travelled themselves and know how to find exactly what you want. There was no pressure when simply inquiring for a quote and they made the whole process of researching, buying and collecting tickets stress free, if only they could promise ...

Advantages: friendly staff, good for budget travel Disadvantages: Queues, can be a bit dippy!
STA travel is staffed by well travelled people, often ex-students, who are normally well acquainted with the tight budget scenario. I have used them on several occasions and found their offers and planning extremely useful. However, I have also heard of experiences where staff have been less than effective, not managing to get the name of the person down correctly! An example of an excellent offer, must be the flights to China that we purchased in ...

Advantages: reduced fares for students and young people Disadvantages: tedious and pedantic
I am referrring to the STA Travel website which I have visited on a few occasions when surfing for cheap flights. STA offer reductions for students and for people under 26. Great. I'm under 26, so lets go. But no. Before I can view any flights I must state whether i am a student. If so, which college i attend, date of birth etc. This comes across as a bit of a waste of time but i give my details willingly. Okay, time to check out some fares. Should ... ...specify not only the exact date of my departure and return, but the exact hour of my flight. Since I'm here to find a cheap flight, the hour of travel depends on the fare, and I am left guessing as to what time of the day will be cheapest. I select randomly. Then I have to decide which airline I want to use, and this really does seem stupid- if i knew which airline I wanted i would be at their website and not at STA. I select one of the options-probably ...

Advantages: Knowledgeable staff, great service, cheap deals and easily accessible. Disadvantages: Can tend to pester you with phone calls and emails before you book your trip.
I'm a regular customer of STA Travel, I find them very easy to use and they usually provide good value for money. One of their main advantages is the accessibility they offer; you can ring for a quote, email, book online or walk into a branch, this is very convenient.
Generally, the people they employ are well experienced travellers who give advice based on their experience. They always seem laid back, friendly and genuinely take an interest in ... ...a reservation I'd made through STA for a hotel in Bangkok a couple of years ago. I emailed the guy who I'd dealt with from STA in Cambridge and he sorted out the problem within hours!
I've never had any complaints with the service, although they can be a little over keen with the telephone calls and emails. If you ask them for a quote, expect three phone calls a week until you either book or ignore them and they give up!
Overall, an excellent company, ...

...return ticket to Italy in STA for my trip in July recently. Before I decided to buy in STA, I asked for the price in many travel agencies and internet flight. I found that the Thomas Cook and the STA are the best regarding to my trip.

For students, the STA can book cheap accomodation which is excellent for back packers. For example, I booked a dom in Rome for only 12 pounds per night including breakfast. The location of the dom is quite near to the Central Station of Rome. Moreover, the staff told me very detail about the railpass policy and compare the price according to my needs. Their opinion is very helpful and they do not force me to confirm anything immediately ...

The woman, (and three others in the branch) did not know anything about round the world travel, so she took my name, contacts details and the places I wanted to visit and said she would get her manager to get back in touch with me - they never did.

We started by going in for a chat to discuss locations, timing, price and activities. The staff were very helpful, gave us great ideas and helpfully emailed us so we didn't have to go into the shop all the time. This was so great because the shops hours were 9-6 mon-fri, exactly the same as my own hours, great eh?

Advantages: Staff in STA branches are friendly and helpful. Disadvantages: STA doesn't actually book your tickets!
My opinion of STA as a responsible and reliable travel agent no longer exists. I associate STA with incompetence.
I recently went on a gap year and booked my flights through STA as I'd heard good things about them, and although aware STA isn't the cheapest place to buy tickets, I was prepared to pay a little more for convenience. I won't make that mistake again.
Whilst in South Africa, I decided to change the date of my final flight home, moving ... ...wasn't booked onto the flight. STA hadn't re-booked my ticket; they had simply cancelled my original ticket, without booking me a new one. Thankfully the airline was a little more competent and managed to squeeze me onto the flight-no thanks to STA.
On getting home, I complained about this-guess what. I didn't get a reply! Since then, having talked to other people who also booked their tickets through STA, I have discovered I'm by no means the only ...

Advantages: Cheap Travel for young people Disadvantages: Their travel insurance leaves a lot to be desired!
I've used STA for many trips to and within the US. In my expirience the US branches were a lot more helpful than those in the UK! The main problem I have with STA is their insistance on having an ISIC card, which actually is never asked for when you go to an airport (But who'd take the chance?!). I always check their prices online, rather than go to a travel agent, simply because it's quicker and easier. Advantages: really helpful Disadvantages: not a bad word i can say really
Ive heard some people give STA travel some bad words but recently i went into STA travel to sort out my gap year travelling around the world trip.
I thought it would take a couple of appointents over a few weeks to get everything sorted, but first appointment i walked in and got a friendly greeting from a young women and sat down in a chilled environment. ...week trip.
We found that STA travel gave us by far the cheapest ticket price (roughly £200 cheaper than most other agents). Their tickets do work out cheaper for people aged under 25.
However, the accomodation they offer is often cheaper when booked directly through the hotel or hostel in question, or through hotels.com.
They specialise in student type holidays, including backpacking tours and around the world trips.
I found the staff to be very ... ...An excellent service that STA provide is an up-todate email service, whereby they email you any changes to flight details/times etc. as soon as they know about them. This proved extremely helpful to my friends and I when away, as you don't have to ring the airlines to confirm flight details.
In conclusion, I would recommend STA trael to everyone, but especially to students. Ticket prices are cheaper than most other agents. I would advise people ...

I dropped in to my local branch (Brighton) and (unlike some branches), they were happy to give me a quote even though I said I was just shopping around for prices. Quick review of STA Travel
I recently booked my honeymoon flights with STA Travel, i wish i hadn't. During the process of updating itineries they changed flight times and didn't highlight the changes meaning an additonal 6 hours airport stop over - not what you need at the end of a honeymoon. Be warned STA Travel take no responsibility for your flight itineray even when they change it without your request. I would also warn you, as soon as they have your money their approach changes as you will read in many other reviews - be careful the after purchase service is none existant - don't expect any consideration towards your issues.
Lack of attention, no apologies, no customer service - be warned ...

I have bought tickets from STA Travel before...but since I turned 26 last year, I was not able to purchase discounted tickets, flights even though I was still a student then. STA TRAVEL ARE APPALLING.
I was burgled and the burglar stole, amongst many other things, my passport. I was supposed to fly to South Africa the following day to go on the trip of a lifetime to meet friends.
I called STA to tell them that I had no passport (the passport office were on strke and I needed an interview for a new one) and to discuss options. I phoned the next day again and was told that I had been charged £100 for a 'no show' with the airline (despite telling them the day before) and that the airline , Etihad, had CANCELLED my return leg. which I had hoped to use once I had a new passport. I am £700 out of pocket and they're doing nothing to help me.
