Advantages Advantages Sun, Sea, Shops, Sand, Beautiful Backdrop of mountains

Disadvantages Disadvantages Noisy, especially at night!

Now, I guess most people wouldn't think of Peace when they think of the rather Touristy Spanish centre that is Salou, but living with five other people in a rather small bungalow going away with just my husband for a week anywhere would be peaceful. Anyway, peace is in the mind rather than in the place I find, and my husband is the most peaceful person I know to be with so peace is what I am expecting. We have been to Salou before and there are lots of things that I remember, but the bulk of this review will be written on a notepad while I am away and typed up when I get back. Salou is the biggest resort and rightly claims to be the capital of the Costa Dorada, Spain. Costa Dorada which means 'Golden Coast' (very apt) refers to the 150 miles of golden sands which run south of Barcelona to the ancient city of Tarragona. Costa Dorada isn't as hot or as popular as the Costa Blanca or the Costa Del Sol and indeed isn't as exclusive as the Costa Brava but that does have it's advantages because it has a lot to offer. ¬Location¬ Salou lies at the south end of the Costa Dorada just a few miles south of Tarragona. Reus airport which serves the resort is only thirty minutes ... more

Advantages Advantages Port Aventura, Aquopolis, proximity to Barcelona

Disadvantages Disadvantages Unattractive high rise accommodation, High road tolls

Friends of ours suggested Salou for this years vacation primarily because of the presence of Port Aventura, the only Universal studios site in Europe. Resorts include: SALOU, a tight knit and rapidly growing area of high rise hotels, cheap tacky gift shops, bars and restaurants, very busy and not my idea of a pleasant holiday, although I would recommend Champions bar to anyone visiting, particularly if they like quizzes and raucous entertainment and karaoke, situated at the tail end of the main street near a childrens entertainment area. The DJ and bar-staff are superb and our only regret is ... more

Travelling to all corners of the world gets easier and easier. We live in a global village, but how well do we know and understand each other? I thought that you (the British) were cool and reserved, but, fortunately, I do not believe in stereotypes now, so I don’t think that the great topic of conversation between strangers in Britain is the weather –unemotional and impersonal- (for example). But, do British tourists know where they are when they come to Salou?… ### WHAT IS SALOU??? ### Salou, my birthplace, is a gorgeous city. It is a holiday destination and reference point, concentrating ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, Sunny Lots to do

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

The main reason I chose this holiday was because it was a cheap last minute offer. As a student, a strict budget was the order of the day and the Costa Dorada appeared to live up to my requirements. Reus airport, which serves charter flights for this region, is small but ample for your general needs. Salou itself is a lovely town with a gorgeous, long sandy beach. There are plently of facilities at the beach itself; peddle-boat hire, sun-bed and parasol hire, toilets, showers, volleyball nets, gym, ice-cream vendors and even a funfair which is open until late at night. There are plenty of ... more

I have just been on the best holiday ever. There are a few reasons this could be. Now i have to breif you quickly - i have travelled a lot as a child, spent a lot of time in the caribbean, the states and the far east, and stayed in many places, though mostly the 5 star, best-hotel-in-town sort of places. rich parents. So when i come back from a cheap package holiday in spain, and say it is the best i have ever been on, you have to believe me. Could it have been the fact that it was the first trip with with boyfriend? who knows. I went with 3 others, 2 couples. Me and my partner and our ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages not to everyones taste

Salou is situated in the Costa Dorada region of mainland Spain. It is roughly a two and a half hour flight from most uk airports or alternatively a day and a half from central britain on a coach. The resort is served by Reus airport, from which it is roughly a 20 minute transfer to resort. The airport is small and dingy and is surrounded by a petro-chemical plant. First impressions will not be good, but dont let it worry you . As we reached the baggage carousel, just as tempers were getting frayed, a person in a Woody Woodpecker outfit appeared and calmed all the squalking kids down. THE TOWN If ... more

Advantages Advantages great family holiday, inexpensive to eat out .

Disadvantages Disadvantages very big city if you have kids and decide to walk about.and quite a long bus journey.

My family have been to Camping Sanguli five times now.We travelled each time with a great bus company called "SIESTA INTERNATIONAL HOLIDAYS".They are a great company to go to Spain with as their customer representatives, on the buses and at the park itself where fantastic. The buses also have large recliner seats which are very comfortable.also reps are available 24 hours a day if you need them. The bus journey is a bit off putting ,as it lasts between 32-36 hours. But they do stop every four hours or so for comfort breaks, they last from 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on schedule at the time ... more

Advantages Advantages A fantastic resort for all ages

Disadvantages Disadvantages weather can be unsettled out of season

I have been to Salou 3 times now and would still go back! It is a lovely family resort and is never full of larger louts, so is idea for children or people of any age. It has 2 lovely beaches , one main one and one more secluded, The front is packed with cafes, shops and bars and just of the main street is a beautiful view out to see, where there are a handfull of secluded bars and reataurants. Also down the main front there is a fun fair and a huge fountain, which changes colours and water displays. A short ride on the little train that goes up and down is Portaventura, which is a huge theme ... more

I had a weeks holiday with my fiancee in Salou in Oct 03. Salou is the biggest town in the Costa Dorada region and occupies a long stretch of the coast about 5 miles long. We were a bit worried about going to mainland spain at this time of year as we were unsure about the weather, but it was a late deal and it was cheap so we went for it (£225 per person , half board . This offer was from teletext holiday pages) Salou on arrival was bleak and grey, it wasnt disimmilar to Skegness on first impressions (maybe an exageration, but this what the better half was moaning about). However we must have ... more
