I visited San Diego last October due to a work meeting. As it was such a long way to travel I thought it would be a good idea to add on a few days holiday to explore the area with a friend who was coming along. Getting There There are direct flights to San Diego from London however at the time these were three times as expensive as a fare with stopovers in the US and with a friend coming I wanted our flights to be as cheap as possible. Our flights ... ...got our final plane to San Diego. This may seem too much for some, but for me it was great as the plane changing gave me a chance to stretch my legs. I think I would have found 13 hours cooped up in a plane too much! One thing I did ensure was that the route was sold as one fare (rather than book individual internal US flights myself) as I would be covered should one of the flights be delayed. Advantages: Its so Relaxing Disadvantages: You wont want to leave!!!!!
...fantasic Harbour and great food San Diego is one of Americas finest cities! When we visited the city we had just had a week in Los Angeles, so we knew that it would have to be great to be anywhere near the standard of LA! But it was, if anything it was a bit better because there were even less people around and there was more time to relax.

Do you like shopping? well they are great places to go, including DownTown San Diego with a great shopping Arcade, where you can feel safe, as DownTown San Diego has one of the best crime rates in America for such a built up areas!

Advantages: a lovely way to start a fly drive holiday Disadvantages: The flight from the U.K. is approximately 11 hours
San Diego is well worth a visit but in my opinion 5 days is enough time to enjoy the attractions it offers. The weather is sunny but not too hot as being a coastal town the ocean is never too far away. There are many attractions and the best way to view them is to take a “Trolley bus” tour. These can usually be organised at your hotel. It costs around $20 or approx £14. It is a whole day tour, which is very professionally directed. Your ... ...few miles away from one of the richest countries in the world. Keep your wits about you.
All in all, San Diego offers good food, good hotels and a laid back atmosphere. There was no evidence of the “rat race” here. A destination well worth considering. ...

Advantages: One of the best Family Resorts in the World Disadvantages: You will never want to leave
San Diego is a city in a Million.
My wife and I live in Kidderminster , Worcestershire , UK and have visited the City on at least 10 occasions.
If we could emigrate , we would live in San Diego - but why.
Weather :- A constant pleasant temperate climate all year round. Never too hot , never too cold.
Beaches :- Mission Beach , La Jolla Beach - excellent places to see and be seen.
Shopping :- Horton Plaza , Seaport Village just for starters.
... ...Clyde the Sea Lions) , San Diego Zoo , without doubt the best Zoo in the World (http://www.sandiegozoo.org/) , Wildlife Park , Seaport Village , La Jolla , Del Coronado - I could go on and on.
This is a city where Kids , Couples & Familes will enjoy themselves till their hearts content.

Advantages: The place where lifestyles are created Disadvantages: Having to leave to come back to work
...later we arrived in Downtown San Diego.
San Diego is everything LA is not, it's clean, the downtown area was well lit with non threatening people.
Prior to leaving LA we had booked ourselves into the Banana Bungalow (BB) in the Northern costal resort of Mission Beach. BB is a hostel right on the beach with a beautiful and large deck out the back where you can just kick back and enjoy the view.
After settling in (staff were way friendly) we decided ... ...a residential resort that is making the most of its beach frontage. The front is full of bars and restaurants, a few motels but as you drift a couple of blocks in land it's residential housing.
The beach was wonderful, clean, long and soft sand and although we went in December the water was still warm enough that you didn't need a wetsuit.

On the San Diego quey-side there is every kind of shop imaginable, all of high quality. If you want to buy indian carvings or possible do some Christmas shopping this is the place to go. During the day there are ships you can visit and explore and for a reasonable price. There are one or two hour tours of the bay which is also a good price and go all day. At night there is not much to do in the centre but there are plenty of wonderful restaurants ...

San Diego is a fantastic holiday destination. It is warm and sunny but as it is on the coast there are cooling sea breezes. The people are all friendly and there is fantastic shopping centre. The buildings are all painted in bright colours as the town used to be owned by Mexico. A place that must be visited is Balboa Park which has museums in it (some of which can be free on particular days) and also San Diego zoo. The park itself is lovely to walk ...

...your vacation with one of San Diego’s best kept secrets. I stumble across this 3 years ago the Garden Cabaret Movie Theater at the University Town Shopping Center. The theater is a unique experience as it is outdoors under the stars and shows classic 40’s and 50’s movies Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the summer months. Seating is limited as it’s tables and chairs so food can be brought in from the UTC food court, which has a wide range of styles ... ...table.
I have been going to this theater for the last 3 years every summer. We used to gather at its previous location in Mission hills and eat at a local restaurant before going to see the movie. We always reserve our tickets, which costs an extra couple of dollars. Now we get our food delivered to the table before the movie. Quick review of San Diego (California)
I travelled to California in April of this year. It was amazing, i was skydiving for two weeks and the weekend in the middle we went to San Diego for two nights. One of the best couple of days ever!!!
The beaches are beautiful, i cannot compare them to any others i've seen. The weather was great at that time of year and everyone is so friendly. If you enjoy shopping then you'll definately enjoy yourself here. The shops offer everything you can imagine and more!!!
But for me to top it all off was the huge ice creams! childish i know but what can i say... its my weakness.
You buy a drink of coke and its given to you in what i can only describe as a bucket... and people question why the americans are such 'large' people... ...

...and I have travelled to San Diego three times now. It is truely one of those places on earth that draws you to it like a magnet. Once you have been it will stay with you always. The climate is perfect, beautiful clear days and endless blue sky without the excessive heat of some destinations. Each time we have stayed at the Holiday Inn on the Bay. Whilst the hotel isn't the most expensive we have found the location perfect as you are within an easy ... ...bay.
A great family destination San Diego also has a brilliant zoo which can be reached easily by bus or car. The magic of Sea World will also be a favorite with the kids.
It is easy to combine Los Angeles with San Diego on a two centre break. I think this is the ideal alternative to Florida if the kids want to do Disney etc but you can't face two weeks of it. It would be easy to spend three or so days at Disney and Universal Studios in LA and ...

San Diego was sadly the last destination on our itinerary for our holiday (except a day trip to Tijuana in Mexico). In Spanish, a "La Jolla" is a jewel. San Diego is set around a gracefully curving bay in Southern California and we were staying in La Jolla (pronounced La Hoya). After traveling non-stop around the West Coast of America, we promised ourselves a restful 9 days and this is exactly what we did! La Jolla is an elegant beach community just ... ...of our mornings were spent watching the surfers tackling the fluctuating waves, these can be much too strong for novices. San Diego is claimed to be Americas "finest city" and this is very hard to dispute as no smog fills the city's air and no sewage spoils its spectacular seas. ...

But the most attractive performance of the day is the killer whales performance. Remember Free Willy? Here, you can get a closer look at the giant killer whales as they do somersault over the water. Advantages: Sun, Sea, Sand and Loads to Do Disadvantages: It's Quite Expensive
...husband is an American from San Diego, California, so we're often flying out there to visit. There are many lovely places in California to check out like San Diego Zoo, Disneyland, Universal Studios and Seaworld to name a few. Not forgetting to mention the gorgeous clean beaches. The weather in San Diego is absolutely perfect. It's no wonder they call California the 'Sunshine State.' My favourite tourist attraction would have to be Universal Studios ... ...of rides. Seaworld in San Diego, home of the famous Shamu, is another very popular tourist attraction. However, unless you are really into sealife, I would give this a miss as it is very expensive. To sum it up, I would highly recommend going to San Diego/California for a holiday, as it's a wonderful place, and there's loads to do. ...

...from the train station at San Diego. You can get a bus but the information machine at the train station was broken and there was no one around to ask.
I would probably take one of the excursions and see it that way especially if you are in Los Angeles. If you are not interested in the backstage tour go for the excursion it will be cheaper.
I did try the tourist office in San Diego but that was closed too. We went on a Sunday which was perhaps not ... ...very open so wear plenty of sunscreen otherwise you will burn. There is a bakery on site and is very reasonably priced. The beer school is fun and their is an educational side to it too. Look out for shipwreck rapids where passers by will shoot at you with water cannon. You will be totally drenched.
The sky gondolas are great fun overlooking the park but dont move around in them the only down side was having to pay.
