...attraction for guests to the San Remo Hotel in San Francisco is the price. For anyone traveling on budget, it offers a bed and plumbing facilities at a rate that won't break the bank of someone with limited resources. I had stayed there when my British girlfriend, Jayne, came to visit a couple years ago. Even though it lacks most of the amenities offered by today's hotels, it has one other attraction newer ones don't have: ghosts. My boyfriend's, ... ...past summer.

Advantages: Cheap, full of character, welcoming Disadvantages: Smoking is allowed (an advantage to some I suspect!), shared bathrooms

Accommodation in San Francisco is very expensive - apparently it is the second most expensive city in the US after New York. But the San Remo is very reasonable, clean, welcoming and full of character.
We stayed here for about £40 a night, after negotiating with the manager (it was the off-peak season).
The hotel is situated in a nice, quiet area of San Francisco, very near North Beach. We walked here every morning and ate breakfast ... ...me was that there were no non-smoking rooms.
Cheap, simple and very nice indeed, the San Remo is an excellent option.
Please note : the hotel does not offer food, although there is a good restaurant directly underneath the San Remo, so the rating is based on this. ...

Advantages: Cheap, reasonable accomodation. Disadvantages: Can be quite noisy outside at times.

It is situated within a few minutes walk of Fishermans Wharf, one of the best and entertaining areas for visitors in San Francisco where you can sit overlooking the Bay eating Clam Chowder in a Sourdough roll watching the seals playing beneath you in the sea.
