Advantages: lively Disadvantages: not for everyone!
Sandy Bells is a cosy and quite small pub on North Bridge, near Greyfriars Bobby for any tourists! It is perhaps the best example in Edinburgh of a pub that has live Scottish and Irish music, live from the corner. The staff are the friendliest I have ever met, and they aren't even all Irish. Beer is reasonably priced and they have a good selection of ales on tap as well as the normal spirits. This is not a place to go for a G and T though, its a ... ...ten and was mesmorised until about 1am. Not only that but the band were so caught up in it it took the Barstaff about half an hour to actually get them to stop playing. Its a little like finding youself in a working mans pub in the Highlands of Scotland, only its in the centre of Edinburgh, and the clientiele is a little more mixed. Its quite odd to find yourself watching a four-piece band for a couple of hours and not noticing the time go by.
