Advantages: Beautiful, Unspoilt, Superb Climate Disadvantages: More Expensive Than You Might Expect
...CULTURE: DH Lawrence once described Sardinia as an island 'outside the circuit of civilisation'. There is still a gentle sense, in Pula at least, of being at an isolated outpost, or even, occasionally, of having stepped back in time. There is one 'Internet bar' in the town, which opened a few years ago. Apparently, aside from passing tourists, it was only 'the Australian girl' who ever really used it. The locals themselves seem to regard it with ... ...There is much in Sardinia to strike the casual visitor as quaint, and an array of fascinating cultural traditions are devotedly observed. As an example, over 1,000 traditional festivals are held on the island every year. These can be anything from pagan rituals celebrating the solstice, the coming of a season, or the harvesting of a particular crop, to sagres, religious celebrations in honour of a particular saint. These are extravagantly lively ...

Sardinia is a sunny place, rather dry in fact.. when you make your way to the island by air make sure you have a peek out of your window where you will see vast patches of brown dark nearly- burnt dry land... completely the opposite to our English fresh an bright green landscapes. Sardinia in fact quite often suffers of long dry summer and also winter spells where water is scarse and therefore really precious and is only available ... ...to the next subject! Sardinia is an island under the island of Corsica and separated by the Bocche di Bonifacio. It is roughly at the same hight of Lazio (region which has Rome as capital) separated by the Tirreno sea and the south of Sardinia faces the Mediterranean sea.
The sardinian population is made up of 1.680.000 inhabitants and its territory is made up of 24.089 km2 of land and if you want to travel by car from top to bottom it takes roughly ...

...really looking forward to visiting Sardinia when BANG, the airline ran into problems and folded and we had to cancel the holiday as there wasn’t another suitable flight. Fortunately we had four months to arrange an alternative and after much pouring over travel brochures and browsing the net we decided to book our own flights through Lastminute.com (if interested in their services see my review!)and stay at an apartment through our timeshare. The coastline stretches for approximately 1,800 kilometres and the surface area is over 23,000 sq. kilometres so this review only covers a small part of this beautiful island, and that is the north and mostly the north east in the area called Gallura. It is divided into 16 sub-regions and these come ...

...you think of going to Sardinia or any other Italian region one day, forget about tea altogether. Only a masochist would order tea in an Italian bar (as only an Italian masochist would order coffee in a British establishment, so there). When you offer tea to an Italian, you might hear, "No, thank you, I'm fine." Italians drink tea, black or the herbal variety, when they feel unwell, it's medicine for them.
Now, have you got your coffee ready? Off ... ...of German tourists go to Sardinia by car and ferry, the majority of British tourists go there by plane. Ah, yes, of course, I hear you saying, the distance! No, that's not the main reason. Not all Germans live in the south, in fact the most densely populated region in Germany is the Ruhr valley which is on the same latitude as the south of England. Look at the map, it's true!
Germans started to discover Sardinia as individual tourists, they got ...

Sardinia is, after Sicily, the second largest island in the Mediterranean, occupying an area about the size of Wales. I don’t know what it is about Wales that makes it the yardstick for so many comparisons of this sort, but it does here happen to be an appropriate one – Sardinia is in fact just 16% larger than the principality, with about half the population density. With most of the population living around the coast, this makes for some ... ...have plans to return to Sardinia and include it next year, after which I shall update this opinion.
In the north is the province of Sassari, which includes Alghero and also, in the opposite north-eastern corner, the stretch of coastline known as the Costa Smeralda (Emerald Coast). This area was opened up by the Aga Khan in the 1960s as a holiday playground for the rich and famous – Sardinia’s answer to the Côte d’Azur – with prices to match. Although ...

Sardinia would be my top recommendation for couples who want a cheap, get-away-from-it-all, relaxing and, most of all, romantic week-end away, it has everything you need. Get up late, lay on the beach all day, maybe do some shopping if you are feeling energetic, then take a moon lit walk along the sea shore to anyone of Alghero’s fabulous restaurants for a spectacular dinner. Who could want more? Not me! I am busy ... ...Ryan Air; if you book in advance you can get a round trip for under £20! Hotels range from £20 sterling, per person, per night to £75. The level of service is good wherever you go, but with hotels, the more you pay the more luxuries you get! A three course meal with local wine (highly recommended) cost, on average, £15 per head and is fantastic value for money. ...

SARDINIA
This was our first venture into the Timeshare Exchange setup, having first bought in mainland Spain. Unfortunately I had partly severed a tendon in my right hand a week before we were due to go and driving proved difficult with a splint on one of my fingers. By the time we reached Gatwick I was getting used to the idea and we eventually took off and landed at Alghero in the north west of the island.
It was just our luck that our destination ... ...east coast. Not a good start. No, we hadn’t booked a hire car, preferring to play it by ear. Enquiries at the taxi rank told us that it would cost the equivalent of £110 to get us to our Timeshare – Mamma Mia! This was the first indication that it was going to be an expensive holiday. Instead we hired a car for three days and after a couple of hours wrestling with the gear lever and cursing my handicapped finger, we found ourselves in ...

I was first introduced to Sardinia through meeting my wife; she is Sardinian. As a visitor, you soon begin to discover why Sardinia is so special as you arrive. In the summer months you can arrive from the more temperate climes of northern Europe to be faced with the heat of North Africa, whereas, in the winter it is cooler but still pleasant most days. Scenery is dramatic. Being exposed on all sides to sea and prevailing weather, often incredible ... ...from sunrises to sunsets, storms or just the blur of haze from the blistering heat. Beaches are incredible, clear blue seas and white sands. The coastline is often rugged too, combining cliffs, valleys and mountain backdrops making the summers visit to the beach a little different. The island is mountainous and you can get spectacular panoramas. Towns are pretty, with their distinctive skyline of churches and old buildings. The larger towns suffer ...

Our first trip to somewhere remotely Italian took place in the summer of 2006 and I have to say it was great. Flights, hotel costs (4 star) and car hire for under 500 pounds per person peak season resulted in a reasonable start. Car hire being essential if you want to get out of the beach-public transport is pretty much non-existent in the northern area of the island.
Good points:
The main attraction of this area are the beaches. Dubbed the Emerald ... ...clear blue waters were amazing! With temperatures staying around the mid 30s, a visit to the beach was a must everyday. Although some beaches are very busy, if you have a car exploring the coastline can find a quieter less noisy one.
For those that would like to venture away from the beaches, there are several small towns to visit and many historical sites scattered around the island. The Archipelago islands and Corsica are also only a ferry's ride ...
