Blonde Swedish Stewardesses Uncovered

Advantages: Good food, excellent lounges, attractive specials
Disadvantages: Bad seat comfort, stewardesses are one big disappointment

Think of Scandinavian Airlines and, if you are an energetic young man like myself, your imagination may carry you away: a beautiful blonde Stewardess bending far over to serve your meal, a cheeky blink of her eyes suggesting exactly what you had thought of in that moment, and maybe even a part-à-deux on an empty row in the back on a silent night flight, cabin light dimmed. Thus I was full of anticipation of amorous adventures when I boarded my first ...
...Due to the vast Scandinavian landmass and the low density of the population there, the SAS network within Scandinavia spans around sixty towns from the Northern Cape to the Great Belt in the south, and from Greenland in the west to the Russian border in the East. There are traditionally very good flight connections to the three Baltic States too. As for the rest of Europe, Scandinavian Airlines fly to all European capitals and some important economic ...

Nordic but Nice

Advantages: Comfy planes, sleek shiny staff
Disadvantages: enforced jogging...

...a bit lacking in that Scandinavian style which does so much to endear us to them. Whilst flight information, timetables and so on are available, the whole thing feels a bit counter-intuitive to use, and you're left feeling that it could have been so much better. Still, I didn't book through their website, but through a travel website, and what must be said in their favour is that their fares are much more competitive than they used to be. An article ...
...be expensive as most things Scandinavian are, but was very pleased to have my eyes opened. Comparing the legs from and to the UK with SAS with the distant legs to Esonia (code shared with Air Estonia) there was no comparison. I'll be looking SAS up again. I mean, what other airline is chepa AND gets you fit? ...

Friendly and Efficient

Advantages: A pleasure to fly with them
Disadvantages: You usually land in Scandinavia

...sister were on the same Scandinavian Airways flight and the luck of seat allocation meant they surrounded me. I hasten to add I’m not related to Thomas’s family. Thomas’s interjections into the calm take-off atmosphere were a pity because you have to say, with the exception of this noise, it was a trouble free flight. Well almost, as we sat on the plane at the gate waiting to move off another passenger’s mobile phone went off, unfortunately this ...

Clearly some of their staff have had SAS training

Advantages: Good food, nice on the ground staff
Disadvantages: Cramped, smelly plane. Air hostesses with a foul temper. Late take off

...enough to accommodate the slim, scandinavian air hostesses without causing them to knock you around the head with their elbows - then another 3 seats. It was packed, hot and dark. The best newspaper they had on offer was the Mail. I took a copy and quickly realised why they had chosen a tabloid - there was barely space enough to read that, nevermind a quality paper. Take off was fine - objectively. I had a hiddeous time - I was suffering from a ...
...suffer from vertigo - so every aspect of flying is totally horrible for me. The air hostesses were utterly disagreable. There were 3 of them - each less pleasant than the next - well, that's maybe a bit unfair - one of them was actually human and smiled - the other two were far from friendly. As a young woman in considerable discomfort I was not impressed when they chastised me for not pulling down the table in front of me so that they could place ...

SAS v BA to ARN

Advantages: Real-life advantages if frequent flyer
Disadvantages: Tight seat pitch in all classes

This year I have started flying SAS twice a month between Heathrow and Stockholm Arlanda (ARN in airline parlance). I sent 4 years doing the same with BA but changed allegence due to the SAS frequent flyer arrangement being better for me. Basically even though I fly economy I can still get and maintain the Gold card with SAS while I couldn't maintain that level with BA. I don't know if it is coincidence or not but since I have got my SAS Gold card,I ...
...to business class) 3 times out of the last 10 flights with SAS while I only received 2 upgrades during 50-60 flights with BA. On the Stockholm flights SAS seems to have a smaller pitch between the rows of seats than BA so they feel more cramped (so try to get a seat in the emergency exit rows and benefit from a few more inches of leg room). The seat design and pitch seems to be the same along the whole length of the plane which means that Business ...

Smooth route to Stockholm and Ostersund

Advantages: Helpful flight staff who speak perfect English
Disadvantages: Flight meal might not appeal to the unadventurous eater

I flew to Ostersund via Stockholm from Heathrow at the end of January 2003. I was part of a group of 17 people, seven of which were wheelchair users. We found the check-in staff very efficient at getting us through to the boarding area. Boarding with the assistance of Heathrow ground support went well, but we noticed a big difference in levels of assistance at the two Swedish airports. We had personal escorts to assist us in making our connecting ...
...highly enough. They were superb. On board our two flights the flight attendants were quick and polite in their responses for drinks, blankets and answers to queries, etc. We had meals and snacks which reflected the cuisine of Sweden, which I appreciated. Others would have been happier with more standard fayre, but each to his or her own! I though the food was great. An interesting feature of the flight was the camera which showed take-off and ...

Free Booze and a trip to Sweden

Advantages: Great food, lots of booze, great duty "free"
Disadvantages: You must be kidding

...a vertical (?) tasting of Scandinavian beers ending on several too many (which he insisted I took off the plane with me.) On my return flight I was bounced up to Business class and was even more spoiled with a three course (fish starter with a chicken and Ginger main)) luncheon that would have made it onto many a top-class restaurant menu. Again the wines flowed freely and the service was excellent. During both flights I did not see anything other ...

should be SOS -- going down like Kursk

Advantages: cheap among the full-service airlines
Disadvantages: poor punctuality and service

I travel frequently between the UK and Finland. As a student, price is an important concern for me, and flying SAS via Stockholm or Copenhagen is cheaper than a direct flight with BA or Finnair. I have been happy with their price/quality ratio -- I'm even in the SAS frequent flyer programme -- but recently it has taken a turn for the worse. Some time ago, I flew from London to Helsinki via Stockholm, and the flight was delayed enough that I missed ...
...and gave me a voucher to use in the airport restaurants during the time I had to wait, so I considered it a minor annoyance. Since then, things have changed. The next time I travelled with them, much had changed. Not the delay, though: my flight from London to Copenhagen was late by more than an hour, enough to miss the connection. The pilot apologised profusely, but he was the only one. This time, no vouchers. When I pointed out at the airport ...

Mister

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Supposedly a nonstop flight

Flight canceled due to technical trouble and had to return to gate. Only B-class passengers were helped quickly while 200 others had to return to check in counter. Only two agents on duty. My wife calculated it would take about nine hours to process all 200. Passengers were told that the Airbus A330-300 had to get parts flown in from Copenhagen and thus could not leave until next day. This aircraft is not unusual in the US and I am absolutely sure ...
...morning I tried to log on to SAS website and was unable to find my wife's reservation. It took me over ten (10) minutes to find the phone number. I called and was on hold for 40 minutes. The person who finally answered spoke with an extremely heavy accent and was very difficult to understand. I asked her where she was based--Estonia of all places. I told her flight was canceled and asked what she could do to help. She told me not to worry and that ...

Satisfied with SAS

Advantages: A smooth ride both on and off the 'plane
Disadvantages: Planes could be newer, variable food

We flew with Scandinavian Airlines from Stansted to Stockholm and then on to the northern outpost of Lulea. The return fairs amounted to around 200 pounds for each of us, booked online with Travelocity. Those are good prices for late June, and this was Midsummer Weekend which may mean little more than a travelling funfair in town in England but is a big deal in Sweden. Its hard to find fault with our travel experience on SAS; all the 'planes were ...

A comfortable way to fly even long distances

Advantages: Fairly inexpensive, great service, free drinks
Disadvantages: That dinner they served...

I used SAS for a roundtrip Seattle-Berlin via Kopenhagen. I chose SAS because it offered one of the shortest flight-times as well as one of the lowest airfares available (Spring 2000). I was very happy with the airlines. I didn’t have to bother with my luggage in Kopenhagen, but could simply check it in once and then pick it up at my destination airport. The flight personnel was friendly and a lot was offered to keep the passengers busy and entertained. ...
...alcohol on board. I remember when I used another airline on the same route there wasn’t any alcohol that came with dinner, let alone cognac after dinner, and drinks whenever one felt like having one. The downside of this is, of course, that there may very likely be drunk people on board who might be noisy and disturb other passengers. I liked that during the times there was no film shown (they did show 3 films during the flight Seattle - Kopenhagen) ...

To Tokyo with SAS

Advantages: Very helpful and friendly staff, very good entertainment system to pass the hours away
Disadvantages: not much room, but I was in the cheap seats!

If travelling to Tokyo I would recommend travelling SAS airlines. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful during the long flight, making it a much more enjoyable experience. The onboard entertainment system was a life saver as I find it very hard to sleep on a plane. I enjoyed 3 current films on my way home including Calender Girls and Along came Polly. The music channels were good, repeat themself after a couple of hours - but I then discovered ...

Excellent cabin staff!

Advantages: It was a very good trip
Disadvantages: It was at 35000 feet above the earth!

I travelled SAS from London to Copenhagen and return together with my two children. Not only the service and food on board were excellent, my children received real star tratment. They were given toys, pastels and Lego (to keep!) and the cabin staff were extremely kind and pleasant all the way. I am a real fearful flyer and the senior stewardess went out of her way to make me feel at ease. I do not have enough words of thank you for the wonderful ...

Buy on board menu - currencies and prices.

Advantages: Useful for using odds & ends of foreign currency.
Disadvantages: Price differences in £ terms.

SAS introduced a new fares system. It meant that from 31/10/2004 everyone other than Business and Economy Flex on European short-haul has to buy their food and drinks. So firstly check if your ticket includes food, otherwise if you’re hungry or thirsty you have to pay. They only accept cash, but they do accept 6 different currencies! The thing is, the real cost to you in sterling seems to vary depending on what currency you use. I went online ...

So here are the prices for their breakfast bag (only available until 09:30a.m.) and a coffee: UK £’s 5 + 2 = £7 US $ 7 + 3 = $10 Equivalent to £5.23 Euro’s € 5 + 2 = € 7 Equivalent to £4.83 Swedish SEK’s 50 + 20 = 70 SEK Equivalent to £5.32 Danish DKK’s 50 + 20 = 70 DKK Equivalent to £5.89 Norway NOK’s 50 + 20 = ...

Excellent service

Advantages: Leg room, food, good service
Disadvantages: none

I have just returned from a wonderful weekend in Sweden (August 2000). I flew from Stansted to Stockholm and I was so impressed with SAS. My ticket was a bargain at £95 return. Check-in was smooth and my flights left on time. The cabin crew were helpful & courteous. I was amazed at the great legroom in economy - the best I've experienced. The food was good, and there were plenty of free English & Swedish newspapers. On my return flight, I was delighted ...
