...bridge (well served by the Sentosa Express light railway from Vivo City Mall on Harbourfront Walk) and a cable car (from Harbour Point), the accessibility of the island make it a huge draw for visitors. While the many attractions on the island are built with tourists in mind, locals are also drawn to the island for it's (albeit artificial) beaches, and for this reason is particularly busy on Sundays and public holidays. Admission to Sentosa costs ... ...the most interesting things about Sentosa for me were the parts where lush green rainforest still remained and offered a pleasant change from high rise buildings and shopping malls, and a chance to glimpse what the island may once have been like. For those of you who have seen documentaries about the rainforest and heard loud chirping radiating from the trees, let me assure you that it is not exaggeration; the forest is absolutely teeming with insects, ...

Advantages: Kids ultimate play ground Disadvantages: Commercial to the extreme
Sentosa gets a bad rap from many people for being "commercial" or being "a big theme park", but as a parent with a 4 year old kid, you soon see it in a whole new light....it's torture.... because on Sentosa kids rule. The whole place is set up to get your kids to spend as much of your money as they can...and you will...and that's enough about money. Our day... We started off taking the ferry from the mainland to the Island, this is a very short and ... ...wonder why it's there... Anyway we then walked up the path to the Merlion, on first looks you might say.. "No, I'm not going inside that" it looks tacky, but ignore that and get inside, take the lift to the top and enjoy the view over the island, it is worth it, especially on a hot day when you can catch a nice breeze. Then we moved on to the butterfly park, my daughter loved this and was eventually persuaded that chasing Butterflies in Singapore ...

Sentosa Island in Singapore is not really worth a visit if you are short on time. Although it must be said that the cable car ride to the island is quite fascinating as one gets an aerial view of the Singapore sky-line and passing ships. The island is okay for a quick visit but is more of a mini theme park. It has a monorail running across the island from which you can see what there is to offer. As with all theme parks, the feeling and atmosphere ... ...of a nice beach in the neighbouring Malaysia. If that is what you are after.
If you should happen to have plenty of time on your hands, then by all means make the trip across, if just to say you have been there. There are three ways of getting across, by cable car, by ferry from the ferry terminal and by road across the causeway that links the mainland to Sentosa. ...

...Mickey Mouse.
Of course, Sentosa is hard pushed to live up to that. The cable car ride there across the busy shipping ports, an entrepot to Asia, is good fun - if not for those of you who have vertigo! But the island is a good idea badly carried out. The water park has some great rides, but safety is neglected and the pools aren't particularly clean. In addition most of the rides seem to be shut.
Transport, by free monorail on the island, is good. ... ...are pretty but deserted and so perhaps the best part of the island are the cool, perfect beaches to its south.
Overall, the island is worth a day-trip to, to contrast Singapore - but probably only if you want to do one thing on the island in particular that you can base your day around. ...

...What is Sentosa?
Sentosa used to be known as an old fishing village called Pulau Blakang Mati before becoming a British Military fortress up until 1967, after this the government then decided to change it into an Island for tourists, Sentosa means peace and tranquility in Malay.

Sentosa has a 3.2-kilometre stretch of white sand beach, and is the only location in Singapore to offer beachfront accommodation and over 670 hotel rooms with full facilities. A short coach ride from the city center and up Mount Faber, from there take the cable car which takes you at some points 90 meters above sea level. Advantages: The cable Car Ride Disadvantages: The students during term time
The highlight of this Island is the journey there and back. The island itself is very manufactured with a toytown train that transports you around the island. The best way to get around is to join th etrain and get off when something takes your fancy then jump back on again. It is purpose built like much of singapore itself and has no real character. The day we went, midweek, we were hounded by school kids and students and a giant Origami competition ...
