Travelling for the car-addicted!

AdvantagesFriendly, helpful, stress free

DisadvantagesOn a coach for a long time

"...season!! Which brings me on to Shearings coach holidays. Shearings offer either half or full board so that takes care of most of the food. They also look after petrol (well OK, diesel in the case of their coaches!) and the road tolls. All we had to worry about was the bar bill and sun cream. In all, for me, the missus, and a 6 year old lad, it cost us £850 half board for 7 nights in resort and 3 days travel. Straightaway, we saw the value for ..." Read review

Christmas Break

AdvantagesCost, social, convenient pick-ups

Disadvantagesslowish travel / long journeys

"We used Shearings for the first time in December 2002 to go to the snow for Christmas. Two years earlier we had been on a similar holiday with another company. We chose the Shearings holiday from their brochure on the grounds of length of holiday available, destination and description of accommodation and excursions etc. Since we have two children, then 7 and 9 yrs of age, we were also looking for something that would suit them. We chose an ..." Read review

WA Shearings Coaching Holidays

AdvantagesLots of holidays on offer, can get some real bargains!

DisadvantagesIf you don't like sitting for long periods....it isn't for you!

"...holidays!! I first travelled with Shearings (they've now merged with Wallace Arnold) with my parents when I was 13. We went to Lido Di Jesolo in Italy. I'm now 36 and have been to Spain, Italy, Slovenia and Poland with Shearings (in 3 weeks I'm off to Belgium with them) and I've been to France and Austria with rival coach companies. There's a huge range of destinations, but I'll put them into 2 simple categories. 1) Overnight Express: you stay ..." Read review

Shearings coach holiday, a real bargain

AdvantagesEverything was done for you, you just had to enjoy yourselves,

DisadvantagesNot really suitable for children, too much travel and no childrens entertainment

"...saw an advert for a Shearings holiday for 5 days for the incredible sum of £99 for Bed breakfast and evening meal. This also covered transport from Yorkshire to the Highlands of Scotland and two coach trips while we were there. We thought "This is too good to be true" We were picked up at 8 am from our local bus station by a feeder coach which then went to 2 other destinations within about 10 miles to pick up other passengers and then we were taken ..." Dont believe the brochures!

AdvantagesOnly the sunny weather and good company from other guests.

DisadvantagesEverything relating to Shearings holidays.

"...the long travelling times on Shearings coaches and here is the reason. Shearings Coach Depots (in our case Normanton in Yorkshire) have a closed barrier across the entrance until 4.30 pm and coaches are not allowed in, regardless of how near the holiday destination is, so drivers have to kill time on the motorways. The alternative would be a long queue of coaches waiting outside the depot until 4.30.pm until the barrier is lifted. This is so that ..." Read review

Sorrento Pompeii and Amalfi Coast

Advantagesideal for non flyers wishing to travel to the warmer climate of the med.

DisadvantagesNOT A TRIP FOR CHILDREN WHO WILL GET RESTLESS ON A LONG COACH JOURNEY

"August 2007 Holiday with WA Shearings to Sorrento and Amalfi Coast Italy. Using the Grand Tourer Service. August 2007. Decided on this type of holiday as my wife had taken a dislike to flying! This seemed the best option of a holiday abroad, in the sun. This particular tour offered a 6 night stay at a resort (SORRENTO) Others are based on a total Touring option. Organisation. Our Holiday began at our chosen pick up point where my wife ..." Read review

AdvantagesNONE

DisadvantagesNO HOLIDAY

"DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY We booked a holiday to Scotland and it was confirmed by e-mail and paid for. We were supposed to be travelling on the Saturday and as we had not received the documents with the time of the bus departure we rang and were told there was no availbility and the holiday had been cancelled!!!!! Apparently they rang us once - did not get an answer and did not even think of leaving a message on the answer machine - or think to ring ..." Read review

Quick review of Shearings Coach Holidays

"Can I say that I treated this trip with some sceptisism. A coach from the UK to explore Italy seemed a long journey with boredom a constant threat. What a joy to be proven totally wrong. The journey to and from seemed to race by. Great commentries from the drivers, lots of advice on what to do and not to do. If you need to see Italy in an abreaviated fashion then this has to be the trip especially in their luxury coaches. Every whim or complaints were treated equaly and with promptness. Full marks to Shearings for a great Italian holiday

Quick review of Shearings Coach Holidays

"Went to Croatia with WAShearings in September 2007. The Grand Tourer coach was great, plenty of legroom and more room between the two seats. The hotels were all of a good standard, the food sometimes predictable, sometimes tasty. As usual the days were long and northern France boring and Germany beset by traffic delays. The disadvantage . . . our driver/courier was OK as a driver but rubbish as a courier. Very disorganised. The coach started dirty and at the end of the fortnight was very dirty. The GPS was "programmed incorrectly" and the CDs did not work after a local guide stopped them to play some local music. He had to be reminded to switch the water on for the drinks, and that was after he had persuaded us to keep HIM plied with coffee. He was also very good at not telling groups of people what next day's times were.!

OUR EURO HOLIDAY SUMMER 2007

AdvantagesEASE OF TRAVEL AND MOST MEALS CATERED

DisadvantagesCAN'T THINK OF ANY!

"...It was magical - I cannot praise Shearings too highly for making the experience so memorable. We flew from the USA and joined my son in the UK who had booked the holiday via Uniglobe Gemini Travel, Ashford, Middlesex, UK. From start to finish the nine day tour went without a hitch. The coach was extremely comfortable - in fact our second home . Our excellent driver and tour guide Glen was so friendly, with a great sense of humour and ..." Read review

Shearings Tarbet Hotel

AdvantagesGot to see alot of Scotland

DisadvantagesPoor customer service, uncomfortable seating.

"Shearings have there good and bad points. First the bad. Don't book with Shearings if you want to go on holiday on a specific date. I booked a 5 day holiday to the Tarbet hotel in Scotland in February for the 21st of July for our silver wedding which was on the 23rd. I paid in full 8 weeks before departure and then 6 weeks before departure Shearings wrote to me saying they had to cancel the holiday due to lack of numbers. I could either have ..." Read review

Quick review of Shearings Coach Holidays

"My Husband and I booked to go to the Royal Esplanade in Ryde, Isle of Wight the week before Christmas. Living in Poole Dorset we thought it wasn't far to go as we can see the IOW from home. It took us 8 1/2 hours to get there as they first take you to London Gateway then down to Portsmouth a total of 215 miles. It is 56 miles from Poole to Portsmouth. The return journey was going to be approx 10 hours. People returning to Yorkshire had less travelling time of 8 hours. Shearings seem to beleive that people enjoy the coach journey, well people I've spoken to only enjoy what is necessary not the extra miles added on for no good reason .

Very Bad Customer Relations & Service All Round

AdvantagesVery Few Apart From The Cheaper Breaks

DisadvantagesDrivers, Difficult Passengers, Dirty Poor Quality Hotels, Lack Of Customer Care & Sevice.

"This was the second tour in two years that was booked with this company via their main direct sales team: We went to Tuscany for 8 days, visiting Rome, Assisi & Florence last year, we were on board a brand new vehicle which had a high speed tyre blow out in France, where there was a subsequent 8 hour delay and other confusions going on with the repair and check of the vehicle. We carried out the 8 day tour and on the way home the coach developed a ..." Read review

Apalling Shearings - AVOID!!!

AdvantagesNone

DisadvantagesEverything - especially the staff!!!

"...a LLandudno weekend with WA Shearings and it was appalling as was the coach driver, who was Welsh and was the most unhelpful, sarcastic person I have ever met. We left Yorkshire at 10am and got to LLandudno at 4pm! So much for a weekend as we left at 9am the next morning! Stops in LLangollen - where we spent more time in the village than we did in Llandudno before the shops shut - on the way and a detour through the Welsh countryside - the A55 is ..." Read review
