Location Skiathos is a Greek island situated just off the mainland, to the northeast of Athens. It is part of the Sporades group, in the Aegean Sea. Getting there Skiathos is well served by the major UK tour operators, although it is not as ubiquitous in the mainstream brochures as say Corfu or Kos. ...2 mins away and serves Skiathos Town one way and Koukoukarnaris Beach the other. Runs every 30 mins in May getting to every 15 mins in high season, also runs up to midnight. So marks for the Studios 9 & half out of 10. Marks for the Island and beaches 10 out of 10. Where we ate in TROULOS I have given the Tavernas marks out of 10 and brief reasons. ...run every 15 minutes from Skiathos town to Koukounaries and vice versa - all bus stops are numbered (about 1-26 at the last count) and each number serves a resort/beach and all are clearly marked and described inside the bus. The buses are great fun and, as all Brits want to travel in and out of town at the same time, can be crowded! Car hire etc. is readily available and good if you want to see the parts the bus service doesn't reach. TOWN - delightful! ...

I went to Skiathos last year for the first time with my boyfriend. We just wanted a week in the sun, lie by a pool followed by some nice food and something to do in the evening. We flew out from Gatwick via First Choice in June. Flight was quite short, then onto a coach which was not too bad either. The hotel we stayed in was called La Pisine Art Hotel. ...you can actually see from Skiathos Town harbour. Our hotel was about 5mins walk away from Skiathos Town. We went down every evening, started off somewhere to have a cocktail! and then picked a restaurant for dinner. We had some gorgeous food, the traditional greek food out there was just lovely. ...this is ,we went to skiathos late september and got really nice weather but the nights were a little chilly you need a light weight jacket. The resort of troulos is very quiet, a dozen or so restaraunts ,2 super markets and thats about it . unfourtuantly my holiday to skiathos in 2004 had to be brought forward from august my normal time for travelling to late may due to having found out i was pregnant with my second daughter who was very much involved with the holiday too as i found out the gender the day before flying and had already been named. The flight was an early morning one so we arrived in skiathos at around 10.00 and reached troulos at around 11 am the airport though small ...

Skiathos is a beautiful, fairly secluded island, far north compared to most greek islands. It is meant to have one of teh best beaches in Europe, named Koukinares (dont know about the spelling!) me and my family went in September and it was fairly busy but i wouldny say it was the nicest beach in europe. We came here for a sunbathing holidayand for most of teh first few days it just rained, this was even more ironic seeing as it was sunny at home ...

ATTRACTIONS There is plenty to do, even in the latter part of the season, we went on an enjoyable boat trip around nearby islands in a pleasant fishing boat. Skiathos is a gem. It has a small airport right on the island and more and more English airports are flying here. Your holiday starts as you come into land. Because they built this airport on a seemingly tiny outcrop on the island, during the descent you are coming down over the sea and through area on either side of the traditional Greek houses. Skiathos Town is the main place the island..and it is just gorgeous...tiny streets, lots of character ...
...Friday, and the beauty of Skiathos is that you are never very far away from all the other villages. From Skiathos town in the West to the east side of the island there is a local bus. Every village is marked by it's bus stop....and it is so cheap to travel on this bus...it's regular too, which is good for Greece! The beaches here are all to die for!! Most are sand, although some are shingle. Sun beds are on all of them and they cost us around £1 ...

The other options are taxis, which are not too expensive and you can book the return journey when they drop you off or in my opinion the best - water taxis, which can be found at the Old Harbour from about 10.00am every day. ...The bus goes from Skiathos town to Koukanaries beach. The stops are numbered so its easy. If you are staying in Skiathos town and get off the bus mid way, say at Troulos, you may find you wont be able to get back on if you try to get back between four and six, as the bus is sardine-packed. Getting on at the terminus at either end is probably easiest! You need Koukanaries for the sunset - a pity because this was probably my least favourite place. ...
...but I would stay in Skiathos town as this is bustling and has a great choice of restaurants, shops and people watching opportunities at night. My disappointment was that it was chilly in the evenings, and sitting out wasn't usually an option. We did get some rain too. ...go on my holiday to Skiathos and now I want to go back. As you arrive and look out of the plane window, you see a small, green and beautiful island. My first thought was, 'Is that it'. We stayed in Koukounaries, which has a beach that is one of the top 10 beaches in all of europe. Not being a beachy type of bloke, I found it OK. I was impressed by the fact it had telephones on the beach. I cannot tell you why it impressed me, it just did. The resturants ...
...1 and only road from Skiathos town to Koukounaries. This sevice runs every 15 minutes until the early hours of the morning, but gets packed like you have never seen before. As for the airport. One of the reasons for our 48 hour delay coming home, was that the runway is very short and the planes cannot always land in the wet, which it was. VERY!!! A great place, superb people. I will be back!! ...

...helpful. The feeling is generally peaceful, although perhaps more lively in Skiathos town itself. We visited the island last September, which is perhaps the best time to go - the temperatures still in the 80s and the sea hot enough to bathe, and the resorts are not over-crowded. ...
