    Disadvantages Disadvantages Not much - short runway and the main beaches can get crowded

    Location Skiathos is a Greek island situated just off the mainland, to the northeast of Athens. It is part of the Sporades group, in the Aegean Sea. Getting there Skiathos is well served by the major UK tour operators, although it is not as ubiquitous in the mainstream brochures as say Corfu or Kos. This is somewhat surprising, as along with Corfu, it was one of the first islands to develop international tourism; however, large parts of the island are designated nature reserves and development has been tightly controlled to prevent any "costa-like" high-rise eyesores, and this may explain the ... more

    Advantages Advantages CHILL OUT RESORT IDEAL FOR FAMILIES

    We travelled as a family group of 17 ranging from the yougest 15 months to Tommy at 82 years, all had a great time. MAY 2006 We stayed at the GREEN MEADOW Studios in TROULOS and would recommend these to any family group. The studios are spacious and have what you expect in Greece, fridge & two ring cooker, but they did have plugs for the sinks. The studios were cleaned every day including Sundays, and towels, although small changed often. The pool was cleaned everyday. Thay have a beatiful setting being surrounded by Green (in May) hills, but still only 8 mins walk to a great sandy beach. The ... more

    Thassos was our favourite for ten years until we discovered Skiathos. It is everything you have loved in every other Greek destination all rolled into one tiny island - how they managed to fit that airport in the corner is a mystery - the runway goes from the harbour at one end to the open sea at the other - reverse thrust a must here! One thing to remember if you don't particularly like flying, there is a refuelling stop on the way home at Thessalonike which means two take-offs and landings instead of one.     Advantages Advantages Lovely Town, cheap, nice food, gorgeous weather

    Disadvantages Disadvantages If you want lots to do you need to rent a car

    I went to Skiathos last year for the first time with my boyfriend. We just wanted a week in the sun, lie by a pool followed by some nice food and something to do in the evening. We flew out from Gatwick via First Choice in June. Flight was quite short, then onto a coach which was not too bad either. The hotel we stayed in was called La Pisine Art Hotel. From the outside the hotel looked nice but the area around it was still quite undeveloped. As we walked into the main reception, we had our bags taken from us and shown to the bar for a drink!     I'm writing to give my veiw as an 18 year old on my holiday to Skiathos. In the summer my friends and I decided we wanted to go on holdiday somewhere to celebrate our A-Level exams finishing. We all decided that Aiya Napa or Magaluf wasn't really our scene. We wanted something that would be lovely and relaxing in the day and somewhere that had a choice of what to do in the evening.     I’ve just returned returned from a fantastic week in Skiathos one of the Greek Islands and it seems to have turned into summer in England whilst I’ve been gone! With our first baby due at the end of August we were eager to get away to somewhere nice for a relaxing time whilst we still can and whilst I’m still allowed on a plane! Skiathos is an island fairly near to the Greek mainland and is one of the Sporades islands. The weather whilst we were there was mainly gorgeous with a few rainy spells that cleared up.     What a spectacular island this is ,we went to skiathos late september and got really nice weather but the nights were a little chilly you need a light weight jacket. The resort of troulos is very quiet, a dozen or so restaraunts ,2 super markets and thats about it . If you are wanting loud music and lively nights, dont go to skiathos but if you are wanting total relaxation this is the island for you. Troulos has a lovely sandy beach, brolly's and sun beds available for hire. we hired a car, it was about £60 for 3 days and we saw the whole island and what an island this is i think there's about ... more

    unfourtuantly my holiday to skiathos in 2004 had to be brought forward from august my normal time for travelling to late may due to having found out i was pregnant with my second daughter who was very much involved with the holiday too as i found out the gender the day before flying and had already been named. The flight was an early morning one so we arrived in skiathos at around 10.00 and reached troulos at around 11 am the airport though small with only two luggage retrieval points was very quick and the security very quick and through.     Skiathos is a beautiful, fairly secluded island, far north compared to most greek islands. It is meant to have one of teh best beaches in Europe, named Koukinares (dont know about the spelling!) me and my family went in September and it was fairly busy but i wouldny say it was the nicest beach in europe. We came here for a sunbathing holidayand for most of teh first few days it just rained, this was even more ironic seeing as it was sunny at home in England!     Advantages Advantages Fly straight into Skiathos

    Skiathos is a gem. It has a small airport right on the island and more and more English airports are flying here. Your holiday starts as you come into land. Because they built this airport on a seemingly tiny outcrop on the island, during the descent you are coming down over the sea and through area on either side of the traditional Greek houses. Skiathos Town is the main place the island..and it is just gorgeous...tiny streets, lots of character and the usual Greek shops with such good prices.
