Sorrento, I'll be back!
Review of Sorrento (Italy) by
thecatsmother
Advantages: Interesting town, great weather, good base to explore the area
Disadvantages: Traffic and pollution
...of the busiest junctions in Sorrento it took on the appearance of an intricate ballet. It was very entertaining, and I only saw one minor bump between 2 scooters, which was resolved with a raised hand of apology from both parties. They didn’t even slow down.
Entertaining as it may be, the traffic produces a lot of pollution, both of the noise and fume varieties. If you have any breathing difficulty, or are a light sleeper (or want to use your balcony!) ...

Bella Sorrento
Review of Sorrento (Italy) by
atticusuk
Advantages: Beautiful scenery
Disadvantages: Traffic noise
Sorrento is located about a 90 minute coach ride south of Naples. Once you have escaped the urban sprawl of Naples the winding coast road gives you some beautiful views of the Gulf of Naples on your right whilst all the time the imposing height of Vesuvius is receding behind you.
Sorrento is often regarded at the gateway to the Amalfi Coast. It is a bustling unashamedly tourist dominated Italian town with a population of 20,000 people which is ...

Sorrento in a day - it's all you need!
Review of Sorrento (Italy) by
fizzytom
Advantages: Pleasant old town, beautiful scenery
Disadvantages: Few proper beaches, inflated prices
...(only 25KM but stops everywhere), Sorrento offers a very pleasant alternative to the hustle and bustle of southern Italy's largest city.
The train journey itself is integral to the day out. You travel on the Circumvesuviana line which passes very closes to the Mount Vesuvius and the towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum which were famously devastated by an eruption of the mighty volcano. (Both of these towns can also be accessed on this route). Initially ...

My favourite corner of Italy!
Review of Sorrento (Italy) by
klofron
Advantages: Very friendly and great food!
Disadvantages: I don't go often enough!
...found all over Italy and Sorrento is no exception. The local cuisine is to die for with plenty of choice of venues to suit all budgets. Italy has a reputaion of being expensive, probably a reputaion which has clung to it since people began straying from the Costa's in numbers. Nowadays, Italy is no more expensive than like for like in the UK.
As you would expect, pizzas are fabulous - thin crispy bases cooked in most places in real wood burning ...

Review of Sorrento (Italy) by

Advantages: Scenery, cultural.
Disadvantages: Too hot.
...in a hotel called 'The Sorrento Palace' which was absolutely beautiful. The first time I walked into the hotel my mouth just fell open because I had never stayed anywhere as grand as that. It has a six-tier pool, several restaurants and bars, a gym, and a small shop. The bedrooms are air-conditioned which was nice because it was so hot while I was there. The most memorable parts of my stay here were: The food (four course meal every night); and the ...

Fantastic holiday destination
Review of Sorrento (Italy) by
holty
Advantages: beautiful, romantic
Disadvantages: dishonest tour operators
Having visited Sorrento on my honeymoon I would highly recommend it. The place itself is very picturesque, with plenty to see and the food is delicious - I returned home a few pounds heavier! There are plenty of cafe's and bars to choose from and contrary to popular belief the cost of eating and drinking in Italy is not that expensive.
There are many organised tours to take advantage of, but I would suggest that you visit the sights by yourself. ...

...old man and I visited Sorrento on an Airtours bargain -£199 half board at a 4 star hotel!!
Sorrento is a magical place, forget the image of it being for pensioners and folk that stop off on their med cruises its actually quite a lively place BUT it has also kept alot of its old charm and hasnt succombed to mass to tourism.
Sorrento has a great train link to Naples which stops at Pompeii and Hersulaum ( two roman ruins) it also has an excellent ...

Sorrento my view
Review of Sorrento (Italy) by
GS26
Advantages: Lots to see,reasonable prices,
Disadvantages: noisy hotel on main street
...Airport then a coach to Sorrento and our hotel in the older part of this city. At first sight an impression of narrow streets and pavements, when there are any, houses, shops and other buildings packed tightly together. The journey along and round the Bay of Naples gives a foretaste of this area of Italy. The mountains on one side and the road as you near Sorrento running along the side of the cliff, if that's how you describe the mountains that drop ...

Use it as a base .....
Review of Sorrento (Italy) by
Janej47
Advantages: Lots to do if you are prepared to get off your butt ..
Disadvantages: can be expensive
We went to Sorrento with my parents ( both just in their seventies at the time ) , staying in a little hotel up a steep side street just off the main road .
I wont go into hotel details , as this is intended to be more of a piece about the Sorrento experience
Sorrento town itself is quite unremarkable ( except for the ice cream shop which has around 80 different flavours . If you ever get there , you MUST try the Ferrero Rochas one )
There are ...

Just perfect!
Review of Sorrento (Italy) by
Julia
Advantages: Good value, beautiful scenery, great food.
Disadvantages: Becoming more 'touristy'.
...hotle in the centre of Sorrento for £350 each.
We loved everything about Sorrento. Despite the fact that it is popular with tourists it retains a very Italian feel. It is full of chic boutiques selling beautiful clothes and shoes, as well as lovely street cafes where people chill out at night. The food couldn't be better, especially if you enjoy pizza, pasta or seafood. We were also surprised to find how cheap most food was, considering the excellent ...

The best days of my life
Review of Sorrento (Italy) by
paperchain77
Advantages: The beautiful views and weather
Disadvantages: Too much to see!!!!!
Ive been to Sorrento twice. Both times, I loved it more then anything and i really didnt want to come Home. I loved this destination soooo much that I have changed what I want to do for a career in order to live there when I'm older. And who can blame me? Looking out across the Bay of Naples whilst the sun is beaming down on you, you get to see the fantastic view of Mount Vesuvius, the live Volcano. So many sights to see, so many places to go. Pompei ...

Wonderful Sorrento! We'll be back
Review of Sorrento (Italy) by
liz2271
Advantages: Beautiful, picturesque, loads to see, hot hot hot
Disadvantages: not enough time to see everything
Having holidayed in Sorrento the last couple of years I cannot recommend it enough. there is something for everyone in Sorrento and the surrounding area.
Take a trip to Pompeii and Herculaneum for a wonderful experience. Pompeii is much larger than imagined and we visited it over two days but don't go on the organised tours which can be costly. Take the local train, it runs half hourly and only costs a couple of euros. Take the train to Herculaneum ...

Super Sorrento!
Review of Sorrento (Italy) by
Cille
Advantages: A beautiful town and easy to travel to lots more places
Disadvantages: Some steep walking so may not suit everyone
Sorrento is a great centre to explore some beautiful parts of Italy. We saved money by organising our own trips - public transport is really efficient, whether it's train, bus or boat, and much cheaper (and more fun) than trips organised by tour operators. You have to see Pompeii - out tour guide was an unusual mix of witty academic who loved Pompeii enough to want to take us tourists around! 10 Euros well spent. We got the train on to Ercolano and ...

Advantages: fantastic scenery, good food and plenty of shops
Disadvantages: can be very hectic and crossing the road is a nightmare
...a 10 min walk to sorrento or a few minutes on the train, which i might add you would be wise to do as the traffic fumes are horrendous if you walk along the main road. Anyway the cost of travel is very cheap.
We visited sorrento on our first day and i was delighted with the place, plenty of restraunts my favourite was pizza aurora if you like pizza they have about 50 different pizza's. Visit the foreigners club too which is a bar/restraunt they ...

Wonderful Sorrento
Review of Sorrento (Italy) by
olgaa
Advantages: fantastic scenery and good food
Disadvantages: not enough time to see everything
Sorrento has it all, the hospitality of Italy combined with a relaxed atmosphere. It is located on the Amalfi coast which is home to some of the most scenic views in all of Italy.
Sorrento is very clean and has a small city that offers great seafood and all Italy's specialty cuisines.
I would definatly reccomend it to everyone who wants to make the trip to Southern Italy, its worth it.
Sorrento is an excellent alternative to staying in Napoli ...
