Southport airshow, great, stunning, awesome!!

Advantages: The great planes!, army, activities!
Disadvantages: No red arrows :-(

...10th of September was the Southport air show and was the perfect opportunity for me to go and watch a few of the best unique planes in the world. I have literally just got back in from the air show and I am on my computer writing a review on it because I think it was so stunning. -*-*- A little history about the place -*-*- Southport has been a great location for all the family since the Victorian times and I don't know how long the air show has ...
...ago, as I just mentioned Southport is a great place to go for all the family and Southport has a beach I admit it might not be the best in the world but it's a beach and that's where they hold the air show. -*-*- Southport air show… oh and the army. -*-*- Southport air show has been for the past few years connected with the army but it has always been Southport Air show, this year was no different except for the official name, this year its called ...

Advantages: YOU DON'T NEED A PASSPORT.
Disadvantages: LET'S JUST SAY THERE'S AN 'INTEREST' DEFICIT.

...Manchester. I’ve actually lived in Southport for 26years … but I’m always interested to see how the place is being marketed to tourists. Presumably most visitors would arrive either by road or rail … unless anyone was wacky enough to float over from Ireland on a lilo. Well, I guess their first impressions of the place will be pretty disappointing. The train station was constructed from concrete in the 1950s. Now in a state of permanent disrepair ...
...waiting rooms. Trains run between Southport and Manchester more or less every half-hour, and between Southport and Liverpool approximately every 15minutes. The once-magnificent Victorian bus station underwent a metamorphosis. It is now a car park for Safeway customers, and a row of empty, vandalised shops. There is no purpose-built bus terminus. National Express Coach passengers from London, Birmingham, and other southerly points, merely alight at ...

Advantages: Good shopping, and good things to do
Disadvantages: Beach wasn't too good

...in Southport. I’d been to Southport when I was very little, with my Uncle and Aunty, and I only remembered a beach in my memory. So, I thought the only shopping I’d be doing was in the corner shop, to buy some milk, well when I arrived I was happily surprised to see that the town was all I needed for a shopping spree… I arrived in Southport via train, which gets me started rather well on Southport with transport. **TRANSPORT** ...
...was glad to see that Southport wasn’t that bad at all. I travelled from North Wales there, so it was quite a trip, but I was glad to see it was pretty easy to get there, and not a bad price at roughly £25 for a train trip from Wales to Southport. The train from Liverpool centre to Birkdale (roughly 1 mile from Southport, the train carries on to Southport, and is only about 30 seconds longer) wasn’t rather long taking around 40 minutes. ...

I was just a little bit disappointed

Advantages: Good fun fair, good shopping, good golf.
Disadvantages: No traditional seafront to walk along, noisy at night.

My partner and I visited Southport in 2000 to stay for a weekend in The Prince of Wales Hotel at the top of Lord Street. It was a nice enough break and the hotel was lovely, but Southport isn’t a place to which I crave to return. The reason we chose Southport is that the hotel is part of the Paramount group and we have joined their Leisure Break club so we get discounts at the hotels in the chain. To be fair the hotel was lovely, although not ...
...to have a look. Southport is a resort that has a Victorian feel with a long sandy beach and sand dunes. The only problem for me was that a large park with a boating lake separates the town from the seafront. The park itself is very pleasant and made a nice after dinner walk for us both, but I prefer a seaside town where I can walk easily along a promenade and watch the sea. There is a road along the seafront but it seems very isolated with nothing ...

My favourite place

Advantages: Something for everyone
Disadvantages: None, it's great!

...been less than enthusiastic. As Southport won an award the other day for having the most improved beach in the country, I thought I would add my view of the other things it excels at. Southport is a seaside resort in the North-West of England. It is not your ‘kiss-me-quick’ hat type of resort, like Blackpool, it is more refined that than. But neither is it a kill-me-slowly, pensioners-only kind of place like Eastbourne. Southport is unique. ...
...a look. The other main Southport park is Victoria. This is the site of the famous Southport Flower Show. It is also the home of the Southport model railway society, where train rides are available at weekends. Talking of trains, there is a small training running around the Marine Lake, which is fun and loved by train enthusiasts. The Marine Lake is worth a visit – for sitting watching irritable swans bite people, to having a thrilling ride ...

Southport, jewel of the north

Advantages: Something for everyone
Disadvantages: Unless you are a big Blackpool fan!

...say that my views of Southport are undoubtedly biased as it is my home town, although I haven't lived there for over ten years. I think I now visit infrequently enough to see the changes, yet frequently enough to be familiar with the town. Southport was built as a resort town but has always lived in the shadow of its bigger and brasher neighbour, Blackpool. To be fair, if you like Blackpool, then go there. Southport will only disappoint. If you're ...
...the range of excellent parks. Southport is a very colourful town in spring and summer and frequently features in the various 'In Bloom' competitions. There are large parks both on the sea front and a little further away from the centre. Botanic Gardens in the quaint old village of Churchtown, to the north of the town centre, features a local museum as well as beautiful floral displays and is well worth a visit. Late each summer Southport stages a ...

Nice Day Out

Advantages: Pleasure Land
Disadvantages: None

Southport located about 10 miles north of Liverpool is well worth a daytrip if your in the area. There is a nice quaint shopping centre based arround lord street with all the usuall shops and touristy shops. On the sea front there are lots of nice looking hotels i havnt stayed in any though so cant reccomend a good one. Ther is lots ofgreenery arround and the architecture of the area is very eyepleasing. ...condoms and sanitary towels. Southport has a pier with a train running along it, there is a pub at the end. Southport has a fair it's a bit run down, some of the rides could do with a lick of paint. You would be lucky to see a souvenir shop, although there are plenty of pubs and take away establishments. But Lord Street the main shopping area is fantastic, it has loads of shops with plenty of specialist shops, for bargain hunters there is a big discount ...

Pleasure Land - Southport

Advantages: Great day out
Disadvantages: Crowds

Southport is a great day out for all the family, especially if you get the weather! We all went to Southport a couple of weeks ago, the weather was cracking the pavements the beaches were packed and everyone just looked like they were having a really good day. We only took a walk around the Pleasure Land Complex, looking at all the rides and all the kids enjoying themselves. Unfortunately we were unable to let Jessica go on anything as she is only ...
...It cost us £** for 2 adults and under 2 year old go free. It was fantastic, it's only small but you need at least two hours to walk around and see everything. They had everything from Goats to Crocodiles. They were doing a bit of refurbishment when we went and some of the enclosures were being worked on but apart from that it was great. There were toilets and baby-changing facilities and a cafe with an outside seating area. I think we'll probably ...

Hardly world-class, but still worth a look

Advantages: easy to get to, not too busy, elegant, quite a bit to do
Disadvantages: overshadowed by Blackpool

Southport is a seaside town on the north-west coast of England. Situated about midway between Liverpool and Preston, this town has had a lot of money spent on it recently. The pier is currently being refurbished, there is the huge Ocean Plaza project going on on the seafront - which will be Europe's biggest indoor water park. The new coastal defences look great and have ensured there won't be any more periodic flooding of the coastal road. The fairground, ...
...while it's still not the Blackpool Pleasure Beach, it does have some decent rides, such as the Traumatizer and the new big wheel. Lord Street in the town centre is a beautiful example of Victorian architecture. Personally, only living 15 miles down the road, I would never go on holiday there, but if you're looking for somewhere to go with more excitement than Morcambe and less rowdiness than Blackpool, you can't go far wrong in Southport. ...

Beware of Traffic Wardens in Southport

Advantages: Still a lovely place to shop
Disadvantages: Parking - and the lack of leisure facilities

Lord Street Southport is a famous name for good shopping. A typical Victorian Street with wide pavements, canopies over the shops, trees and benches all along to sit and relax on a warm day. Not as many interesting shops as there used to be but there as still some. The Gardens on the promenade are lovely and the walk over the bridge to the beach is still the same as I imagine it was in Victorian days. Traffic Wardens are the biggest problem in ...

Footnote - forget the beach - and there is no leisure facilities at all not a good place for a holiday with children if the weather is bad. ...

Pontin's, Ainsdale Beach, Southport

Advantages: Close to Southport and right on the beach
Disadvantages: In a state of general disrepair

We returned from Pontin's in Southport a few days ago. The apartments are disgusting. There was mould on some of the walls, the sofas were filthy and there was insufficient crockery and cultery in all three appartments. Some of the evening enterainment was good, although there were not enough seats to go round in the cabaret bars. There is lots to do for children, including quadbiking, gokarting etc Southport itself is a lovely place. The shopping ...
