The war memorial commonly known as 'The Cenotaph' is actually one of Barbados's newest monuments. It was made to commemorate the brave soldiers who left Barbados to help England fight in the two world wars. The Fountain was built in 1865 to commemorate the advent of running water into Bridgetown.
Most tourists to Barbados when they hit Bridgetown tend to head to the shops and yes I'm one of them as well!
The memorial is at the heart of Bridgetown, ... ...the descending hordes of people. People usually know where the memorial and fountain are in Barbados but have they ever really looked at them, the answer to that unfortunately is probably no. To be honest there isn't much there. There is the monument with plaques that list the heros that died in the wars, and a fountain surrounded with stone dolphins. Apart from that there isnt anything else.
