Advantages: Cheap, convenient accomodation Disadvantages: Right on a main road
Firstly I want to put an end to a common misconception - you do not need to be a youth to stay in a youth hostel. However though, you do need to be a member. There are three types of membership - single, family or group. A single membership costs £13 per year for over eighteens, £6.50 per year for under eighteens or there is a life time membership for £190. A family membership costs either £13 per year for one parent and any children under 18 or ... ...A group membership costs £13 and is for schools, businesses and any other bona fide organisations with a minimum of 5 members for the UK and 9 members for foreign youth hostels.
I have never been to a youth hostel before in my life but I can say this one was great. It far surpassed my expectations and was even better than some hotels that I have previously stayed in.
Firstly this hostel is very conveniently located within 5 minutes walking distance ...

Advantages: discounts on tickets Disadvantages: none
I travlled form Edinburgh it was a 4hour journey. I had heard about the Youth Hostel from Now Magazine they had given a book out free and so I was wanting to find somewhere to stay for my London trip so I went on the site www.yha.co.uk the hostels are in different spots of London. I stayed in this one because I wanted it to be near Kings Cross Station. The hostel is right on Euston Road on the site you get directions. The rooms are gorgeous just ... ...and in my room I had an en suite bathroom. The breakfast is nice if you decide to have it, just an english breakfast. The friendly atmposphere helps , what I found good is that if you want to visit places like 'Madame Tussauds' you can get tickets downstairs with a discount and it saves you waiting in a queue. Another thing which is handy is if your wanting to use the London Underground it's right across the road with all the main lines like the ...

Advantages: location, price, lovely staff, comfortable rooms, good food Disadvantages: too few en-suite rooms in my opinion
In contrast to Rotherhithe, I really enjoyed my night's sleep in this hostel. It's a two minute walk from Kings Cross railway station- that's why I chose to stay in there. The entrance is opened by remote control when you speak into a speaker and that gives some sort of comfort that security is good. The person on the desk was lovely and helpful, and as I'd had a 5 hour trip from the North, I couldn't wait to get to my room. I had been able to book ... ...have to pay nearly twice as much as a single rate, but it's worth it. No bathroom attached, however, as all of the "special" rooms had been booked...but the loos are always just across the corridor so it's not too much hardship.
The rooms are warm and clean, and there are bunk lights so you can read in bed! I was on the 6th floor which was really quiet.
Breakfast is great - just like a hotel really. Plenty of choice and lots to eat, all served ...

Advantages: Great accommodation...really clean, with the required facilities Disadvantages: Had quite a lot of difficulty with the lockers for luggage.
Well, we finally arrived in London at St. Pancras station extremely tired. The great thing was that the youth hostel was only 5 minutes walk away. However, to get to the youth hostel, there is a main road to cross, with many traffic lights to wait for first! Well, what about the youth hostel itself? It really is a nice place...which surprised me a lot, from what I heard youth hostels were always groggy places to avoid if at all possible. The people ... ...lounge area there were many comfy settees, a tv (we watched Holby City later that night), a giant Connect 4 game and internet access. The room itself, although some might call it basic, it was perfect for our needs. It was spacious with 2 bunk beds and a good-size wardrobe. As for the toilets and bathroom....they weren't ensuite, but there were plenty near by. In the basement, there was a clean kitchen with plenty of utensils etc, a laundry room, ...
