...at the Irini Studios in Stalis for what we discovered was the last week of the season.

Our first view of Stalis was in the wee small hours of the morning. We were extremely tired having landed at Heraklion Airport at 3a.m and waiting on the coach for over an hour before it set off for the resorts. At 5.30a.m. We were in no fit condition to haul our cases up a steep flight of steps to our apartment, ... ...apartment.

Stalis is one of the quieter resorts according to the brochure - This proved to be a more than accurate description, as in the last week of the season there were very few holidaymakers and many of the shops and restaurants were closed for the winter. Just the sort of peace and quiet we were looking for.

Advantages: Peace and quiet yet close to clubs, pubs and more lively resort Disadvantages: Beach is very small and quite croeded
STELIOS STALIS APPARTMENTS CRETE
This is a wonderful low cost destination for families, couples, and groups, young and old. There is something for everyone. The facilities are outstanding and very undersold in the brochure.
Star rating: 2+ (Should be at least 3).
Cost: per person for 14 nights self-catering, roughly £500 in peak season!
Facilities: If you have travelled to Greece before you will know that the facilities are usually more basic ... ...Not here at Stelios Stalis apartments. The facilities are excellent, the accommodation is well equipped, and includes microwave and air conditioning and telephone. The bathrooms are decorated and equipped to a high standard and include a bath and show. There is also a maid service every alternate day.
The food here is not the best, but it is adequate, this is because it is a snack bar and not a restaurant. Listen out for the Greek special announced ...

Advantages: Plenty of restaurants, good bus service, but still places to find peace and quite. Disadvantages: transfer from airport due to the amount of drop offs took 1.5 hours
...There any many restaurants in Stalis and also 20 minutes walk away in Malia. Our favourite place to eat is in old Malia as it is very pretty at night especially when all the fairy lights are on around the old restaurants. We like San Georgio's and also Elizabeth Stabilos which are lovely pretty restaurants and the food is excellent and you feel you are eating somewhere really special and romantic. We did not book any of the reps tours and chose to ... ...there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants there. On the headland there is a bizantine church and you are able to visit free and see the mozaics. We also went by bus to Agios Nicholias which is very pretty and there are plenty of shops and boats trips. We went by boat to Spinalonga island which was used as a leper colony until 1959. The trip lasted 4 hours stopping off for a 20 minute swim, tour around the island by boat and then a one hour ...
