Advantages: It's SYDNEY, y'know the one with the opera house and the bridge? Disadvantages: It's a city that not only sleeps but also stops eating hours before bedtime
...my time there, but since Sydney was the place I was working 4 days per week, every week, I also got to spend a fair chunk of time in the city.
Arriving in Sydney is generally by air on a domestic or international flight though some energetic souls may also drive in having road-tripped it from Melbourne and/or Canberra. The airport is not an especially noteworthy one but it does have one outstanding feature: Krispy Kreme donuts. Can you imagine anything ... ...start.
The centre of Sydney is surprisingly small - you can literally walk across the city centre without any trouble - but the city runs out into numerous suburbs to all sides. Many tourists naturally choose to stay as close to the famous landmarks as possible, but for a view of the bridge or the opera house you'll pay an extortionate premium. That said, I would recommend staying vaguely centrally as otherwise you'll quickly have to familiarize ...

I've lived in Sydney for since 2005 now and I have to say it's the most wonderful city. There really is something for everyone here.
First, there's the obvious Opera House and Harbour Bridge. The Opera House is the most amazing building when you see if for real. I really didn't think that much of it until I moved here and stood outside of it. If there's nothing showing there that you fancy seeing, then I'd recommend one of the tours. They offer ... ...small shopping mall, Wildlife World, Sydney Aquariuim. The maritime museum there is great, you can board an exact replica of the HMS Endeavour, the boat that the original fleet sailed here on in 1770. At the other side of Darling Harbour is the Chinese gardens, which is absolutely stunning. It's so peaceful in there, and yet you look up and realize that the city is just across the road. It'll cost you about $6 to get in, but it all goes to the upkeep ...

...tour consisted of flying to Sydney for 3 days, then to New Zealand for 9 days, then back to Brisbane in Australia for a final few luxurious rugby free days and finally home. A lot of flying was involved but for someone who wants to be a pilot that doesn't really bother me! I won't let you know how we did in the rugby as I am focusing on the places, the people and the experiences.

So when we first arrived in Sydney at 5.30 am we were collected by our "legendary" driver "Stevo" who took us on an initial tour of the city. As this was a tour rather than a holiday we tried to save as much money as possible and this coach driver although friendly was a bit reckless when driving and didn't really tell us anything about the city ...

...get that perfect picture of Sydney harbour bridge and the opera house - get to the left side of the boat in order to get the best view. This is all rather surreal as you realise that you are actually there and can take pictures just like the ones you see in magazines and on television. ...as Australian landscapes go, the Sydney Harbour goes down as being one of the most iconic and familiar, close behind Uluru and of course, the Sydney Opera House, which goes hand in hand with the harbour. The Harbour is a natural wonder and is undeniably the jewel in the crown of Sydney, and is basically the centrepiece of the city upon which all else is focussed open. The famous Bridge crosses it, the Opera House faces it, and hundreds of thousands ... ...The problem I face with Sydney is getting there. It?s a good 2000 kilometre round-trip whichever way you decide to do it. This time around instead of driving, we took the train (we being Valerie and I, since she was down for a holiday just very recently) from Melbourne to Sydney, which was ultimately regrettable. 11 hours of travelling through pastoral land is normally conducive to sleep, but of course you can?t do that when the seats don?t extend ...

...fair stab at drawing the Sydney Harbour Bridge from memory – it’s one of the world’s classic structures along with other icons like Tower Bridge, the Eiffel Tower and so on. Carrying roadways, railways, cycle-ways and pedestrian footpaths across the harbour since the 1930’s, the Bridge has recently taken up a new mantle, that of a “soft” adventure.

Sydney – somewhere I had wanted to visit from being a small child. I have no idea where the draw to this city came from but fixate me it did! Odd then that it took two trips to Australia to actually ‘get there’, but at the beginning of this year I finally managed it……

Led by Captain Arthur Phillip, the group of 1200 convicts, soldiers and their families began building the country’s very first ‘white’ settlement which they named after the British Colonial Secretary, Lord Sydney.
Soldiers and prisoners worked hard to carve out a pretty rough and ready settlement. They used their European knowledge to ...

Sydney is a wonderful city - the shopping, the nightlife, the sport, the culture, the beaches - at least most of the beaches, except the most famous of them all - Bondi Beach - which I can't stand. I remember visiting there with great expectations and realised that the beach which I'd heard so much about was just ... ...recreated in many parts of Sydney and you don't have to necessarily visit Bondi to experience it. One thing which I must warn you about is the crime which is rife in the Bondi area - there were 3 cases of murder/attempted murders by the beach during my 5 month stay in Australia and it is certainly not uncommon. It is normally perpetrated by ethnic Australians on the tourists - especially Brits as they seem to have a long standing resentment of us. ...

Sydney General Before I went to Australia I had this image in my head of the Sydney Opera and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, this was the first thing I thought about when I thought of Australia, so the first thing I did when I arrived was drive down to see it for myself! I highly recommend the Coogee to Bondi beach walk, it takes about 2 - 3 hours but it is really worth it if you want to see some of the beaches that Sydney has to offer. You can always take a ferry trip to Manley Beach which is a great day out, really pretty and a great view of the Opera House and Bridge ...

I first move to Sydney in 1994 with may parents. Coming from England, I had an accent, which was lost within the first 6 months, which may parents were not happy about. ...For AU$100, you can view Sydney Harbour from atop the Harbour Bridge. The view is outstanding and a must do. I'm terrified of heights, but felt entirely safe on this outing.
