Advantages Advantages Fantstic views, sense of real achievement

Disadvantages Disadvantages Quite pricy, need to book

One of the biggest tourist attractions in Sydney is the Sydney Harbour Bridge. There it stands at the Quay Side all majestic and quite frankly massive. You can walk over the bridge as a pedestrian to get to the other side of the harbour. However why would you want to do that when you could climb the bridge!!!!!!! I am not frightened of heights (I mean I have done a parachute jump for gods sake) but even to me this looked quite daunting. Its 136 metres above sea level and is one of the largest bridges in the world. There is a company called Bridge Climb that have based themselves there and ... more

My next review is on the Sydney Harbour Bridge, which is perhaps one of the most iconic monuments in Sydney, if not the whole of Australia. The Bridge is the main thing that stands out when you first arrive in Sydney, its like their gateway into and out of the City, and with its sheer size, its something that people should take the time to look at up close and personal. History: The bridge has a long history, original plans to create the bridge started in the late 1890’s however construction didn’t actually start until the mid 1920’s. The bridge’s total length is a mammoth 1149 metres (3,770 ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages The price for the Bridge Climb is exorbitant.

In many ways the Sydney Harbour Bridge is more imposing than that more famous landmark the Opera House. Heresy scream the purists but as you arrive at Sydney Harbour it is hard to verbalise the spectacle that is the thousands of tonnes of steel climbing into the clouds. The Sydney Harbour Bridge is now in its 70th year but remains a wonderful example of innovative engineering. Spanning Sydney Harbour at its narrowest point, the Bridge connects the Central Business District to the cities North Shore. The Bridge is wide enough to accommodate four lanes of traffic as well as a railway line and ... more

As many of you may know, I live in the beautiful harbour side city of Sydney, resplendent with its Opera House, magnificent city skyline and of course The Sydney Harbour Bridge or ‘The old coat hanger’ as it’s sometimes known. I used to live on the North Shore of Sydney and drove over the bridge every day, occasionally looking up and seeing some grey lumps on the side which on second glance appeared to be people. I was well aware of the ‘Bridge Climb’, an organised ascent of the bridge where you are strapped on to the bridge via a wire and led by a trained group leader. You climb up to the ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Don't attempt if you have a fear of heights or a heart problem.

After deciding to take a gap year after my Alevels i decided on travelling around Australia not only since it was the furthest from my parents but i had heard of people having the most amazing experiences of their life there. After two months of being in Australia with my Aussie partner, we finally made it to Sydney. The only thing i could think of doing first was climbing the most iconic bridge in the world that i could see from my room window towering over the city. We rang up the Sydney Harbour Bridge booking hotline from our hotel and found the service fantastic until we heard the price at ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent views, nice easy climb.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Could book on a day with bad weather.

On the way to Manchester airport, my taxi driver asked where we were flying to. I told him we were going to Sydney and his first response was to tell me to try the Sydney Harbour Bridge climb. After arriving in Sydney I asked my girlfriend Lucy when we are going to book it. She wasn't keen but I argued with her that it was something we would probably never get to do again. After about 3 days she finally agreed. We made our way down to The Rocks district of Sydney which is across the harbour from the opera house and where the booking offices for Bridgeclimb are situated. We booked in person ... more

Bridgeclimb is the latest 'must do' in Sydney. It is billed as 'the climb of your life' a claim that is not far wrong. Ever since the bridge has been open pedestrians have been able to walk across the pedestrian footpath from one side of the bridge to the other. However, within the last couple of years a company has been set up to allow people to climb over the top of the arch of the bridge. You start the climb at the HQ in Cumberland street, at the base of the bridge. There, after watching a video presentation you are breath tested (really!) before being given a grey suit to wear over your ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Don't look down! Pricy but a must

It's something everyone talks about doing when they go to Sydney. But your still not sure whether or not to take the final plunge, pay the money and do it are you?! I did it on my second trip to Sydney as initially my brother was under ten and couldn't participate so we decided to wait until he was old enough on a return trip to complete it. A definite once in a life time experience which is why it is such a top tourist attraction. *****Scared of heights?***** Having eight lanes of traffic beneath you is pretty daunting. I'm not scared of heights but my knee did start to go on the decent a ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Having to reserve a place

My bridgeclimb experience will live with me forever. If must be one of the few things that when you see on telly back in the UK you point and shout "Look, I climbed over that!". When you meet someone who has climbed it aswell you feel part of a small family who have experienced something wonderful. The "climb Experience" that I took had to be booked a day in advanced because of the amount of people who wish to do it. This is understandable and I suppose it is so they can limit the amount of people and stop them from just turning up. The experience costs $165 per adult (that is in the day) and ... more
