...have read other reviews on Symi and would like to place you in my picture of Symi.
Having travelled to the island twice, not a big island at that to go to twice, but very well worth the time and trouble of getting there.
Our first trip we were met at the harbour and shown to Captain Morgans apartments above the gold shop. You then realise that the roof room is a must for the visitors, if you mention that you have that roof space you get "Oh we ... ...arrived it went again.
Symi is such a peaceful island and if you get the chance to visit would fully reccommend. You have to be aware that they don't have any water on the island so it arrives in the harbour by boat and is then pumped around the island. If the boat is late on water in the taps when you wake up.................so what you have water in the fridge to make a cuppa or visit Yannis he will make you a drink.

We visited Symi 3 years ago when we decided to go ISLAND HOPPING with the Fountain Travel Club. The Quatro Fontanas.
We had booked a fantastic deal with First Choice. Flight to Rhodes with two weeks accomadation at Lindos for £126 per person for two weeks.
We spent the first 3 nights at Lindos, which coincided with England being knocked out of the European Cup on penalties, very quiet next day around the pool.
After the 3 nights the four of us ... ...had booked the accomadation in Symi thru the symivisitor web site. Two rooms in a Villa for 25 Euros a night per room.
On arrival we were met at the quay by a Very friendly young girl from Symivisitor. She had organised a Taxi to take us up to the top of the Town which is extremely steep and high. She motored ahead on her scooter.
She met us at the top and guided us through the laberinth of alleys and steps, rucksacks would have been better than ...

Advantages: Peaceful, beautiful and charming Disadvantages: Very hilly with lots of steps and few roads
...is you will either love Symi or hate it. Just a short ferry ride away from Rhodes the two islands couldn't be more different - in fact when the tourist ferry arrives at Symi each day most of the Symi holidaymakers head away from the main harbour and explore the rest of the island only returning when the tourist ferry heads back!
If you want a peaceful holiday away from the regular tourist routes then Symi is well worth a visit. In the main town ... ...steps from the harbour so Symi is not for the unfit or the disabled but if you don't fit into either category you could have fun there.
There are lots of tiny little bays dotted around the island - you can take a boat trip each day to a different bay if you want. Some have a taverna on the beach some have nothing so you need to take a picnic or else travel there by boat which offers a barbecue on board. There are no shortage of boats and water taxis ...
