As local lasses at the Ciao meet in Birmingham, Katy (Pussykaty) and I were given the high-pressured job of being city guides for the weekend.
Whilst I sat back for most of the time and let Katy do the work and take the blame on Saturday night, around 7.30pm, bellies started rumbling and thoughts of Chinese food begin to fill the head. Given a brief of cheap, good and lots of it I remembered a place recommended to me by a close friend who regularly ... ...Pussykaty, Superpricee, KirtsyJane, TallTone and The Mad Cabbie trek our way down to The Big Wok. (not the Bog Wok as the category says, I have asked Ciao to change it but until then it amuses me)

Set in the heart of the city’s Chinese quarter the restaurant is ideally located for the clubs and pubs of the area as well as the Birmingham Hippodrome. Down a small side street opposite an Ibis hotel it would be easy to miss it if ...

Advantages: Cheap, Lots of choice. Disadvantages: Gets Very Busy.
The first time I went to the Big Wok was with a colleague from work, its in a side street near The Hippodrome Theatre in Birmingham, if I hadn't been taken there I would of never have gone as it quite easy to drive past. The location isn't ideal as it is quite easy to miss, but it is quite close to the bars and clubs in the Arcadian centre.
We usually park in the Arcadian centre car park but if that's full there is an NCP car park right next to ... ...being able to get in. The busiest times I have found are Friday and Saturday nights also on Sunday lunchtime.
Also if there is a good show on at the Hippodrome it gets very busy just before the show starts.
On entering you are shown to your table, they have quite a few tables always reminds me of the school canteen. It's no smoking downstairs and upstairs is smoking.
It is really good value for money:
Lunchtime serving from 12 noon till 5pm costs ...

Quick review of The Big Wok - Birmingham
The buffet is CHEAP! The food, atmosphere, decor, cutlery - everything is CHEAP!
You get plenty of stale, tasteless chicken, pork and beef for £5; they even charge 40p for a glass of tap water!
This is the worst Chinese buffet I have ever had! The prawn toast, chicken wings and chicken thighs must have been deep fried and circulated since last week. The main courses were no better. This was a very good example where quality has been shamelessly replaced by quantity. You can fill your stomach but leave your taste buds and aesthetic sense at home! ...

Advantages: very nice food, cheap, and very near bullring, fast food! Disadvantages: not comfortable to eat, crowded and stuffy during busy hours. dodgy place
...to bring your friends etc. The place is not that bad too as it is near to bullring, but i hate the fact that it is in a corner and near a dodgy car park, it just looks messy and not appealing sometimes. the queu is so long as well sometimes but you can get a table very quick as people come and go. But if you're really really hungry then it is not bad at all! Its buffet after all so you can eat all you can for £5! ...
