...into a modern art gallery. The large open reception space has a number of statues dotted around the reception and a number of visual electronic artworks (i.e. video displays) projected onto the walls behind reception and onto the glass waterfall at the main entrance. This 4 star hotel has recently had a major refurbishment.
The hotel is ideally situated for a shopping break, being just across from Marble Arch at the Hyde Park end of Oxford Street. ... ...London. HISTORY OF THE HOTEL
The Cumberland Hotel was built in 1920, and was the first hotel in London to have en suite toilets and private telephones in every room.
BOOKING
The hotel was booked by my partner's work as he was down for a business meeting, and we opted to stay a few extra days. Therefore I can't comment on the ease, or otherwise, of the booking process. However, booking can be done either directly with the hotel or using the reservation ...

Advantages: Central location, under £10 for early bird carvery, luxury Disadvantages: none whatsoever
...found that haggling works!) The Cumberland is situated in Marble Arch on the top end of Oxford street - probably one of the most central hotels in London. Most places are walkable but if your feet get easily tired it's about a 30 second walk to Marble Arch tube station or the hotel has comissionaires to hail your your own personal taxi!
THE HOTEL
As you step into the hotel you know that it is something special, the lobby is huge with a large seating ... ...which can give you all the tourist information you need, as well as book last minute theatre tickets. THE RESTAURANTS
The hotel has two restaurants an oriental restaurant and a brasserie where the famous Cavery is served every day. This is my big hint - even if you can't afford to stay at the hotel the EARLY BIRD DINER is a must, FOR UNDER £10 you can enjoy 4 courses of the finest carvery - and the bonus is that you can EAT AS MUCH AS YOU LIKE! ...

That said, I did manage to have a wonderful sleep after it finished, and awoke feeling refreshed. ... ...want to get up!
The other thing I wasn't too impressed with was the bathroom. There were several cracks in the plaster, one of the lightbulbs had blown and the complimentary shampoo bottle was half empty.
My advice? At reception, ask what the noise levels are like in the room and don't accept it until you have inspected it. ...
