...partner and I went to the John Gilbert for a pre booked lunch on Christmas Day, which we had been looking forward to for ages. The whole experience was a total nightmare......we were booked on the second sitting of the day at 5pm. We arrived at 4.30 for drinks first only to find one person serving behind the bar trying to serve about 30 people from the previous sitting; we were stood waiting to be served for about half an hour. ...It is situated just off the Worsley junction off the M60 motorway. The car park is fairly large and can fit most vehicles. When i first went inside the pub i thought it was a perfect pub, just to sit and have a quiet drink, business conference etc... ...girlfriend and I went to the John Gilbert to enjoy a nice sunday lunch. The building looked nice enough, just a typical chain pub and the staff were very friendly. Afrter ordering a drink we decided to go for the carvery. Unfortunately for us, what passed for food was without doubt the worst meal I have ever had the displeasure of eating. Went for a pre booked xmas meal 25/12/08. Initally delayed for 1 hour then established chef had fallen out with management and abondoned everyone in the premises. Place in a total mess. No leadership. No advice to customer unless you demanded to know what the situation was. The chef should be identified to ensure no other pub or restaurant employs him. Saw two members of staff in tears as customers vented their anger at the way they had been treated. Albeit it was not the waiter/s fault. An absolute fiasco leaving me and my family gutted. Needless to say I will not be frequenting the John Gilbert until drastic changes have been made. NOT RECOMMENDED ...
