Advantages: Successfully combined the 'old' with the 'new, superb location, nice leisure facilities Disadvantages: poor changing rooms, possibly a little too remote for me, no high speed internet access
...a meeting in Llandrindod Wells the next day, which would have meant a 5.30 start. Now I am by no means a wimp, but two full days, combined with very early starts and 600 miles of driving, not to mention giving two presentations meant I was feeling decidedly wimpish. I initially tried for accommodation in Llandrindod Wells, but the Metropole, with its full leisure suite was full, and finding details on other hotels in the area was decidedly difficult.

LOCATION
Situated on the side of the Black Mountains in Crickhowell (where? I hear you say), it is a couple of miles up the valley from Abergavenny and about 12 miles from Brecon. It is easily accessible off the main A40 between the two towns and is clearly signposted from the main road. Access is up a long winding country drive in substantial grounds set in beautiful countryside. Car parking is ample and situated on two levels, alongside ...

Advantages: Lovely location. Disadvantages: Extrremely rude management, run down, shabby rooms, deep fried food...
...do I start ? The room we booked had a lovely view (apart from the skip - see below) and all seemed reasonably well, although come Saturday evening, we realised we were in the room directly above the function room currently hosting a wedding party. We had loud thumping music until midnight. Despite complaining, the best they could offer us was a different room which also above the function room - thus not much help.
I complained several times, but ... ...an extremely rude manager at the reception desk), the best they could offer was a measly £30 discount (off £95 for the Saturday night). Apparently we should have been told about the party when we made our booking, although this is not true, and the manager again implied that my wife was a liar as it was essentially her word against theirs. Obviously though, if we had been told we would hardly have said yes to the enforced late night, bearing in mind ...

Quick review of The Manor Hotel, Crickhowell
This is a nice, friendly, family concern. The area itself is stunning, and the hotel is well placed for anyone wanting a bit of peace and quiet in the welsh countryside.
My room was comfortable, and had a nice view. I think they are trying to improve the hotel , and it certainly do with a lick of paint here and there, but this in no way detracts from the overall experience.
Staff were very helpful when I asked for local information, and I enjoyed dinner immensley.
8 out of 10 overall for me. ...

I like this hotel. It is owned and run by a family that also have a small farm, from where they get the food served in the restaurant.
It is in need of a bit of tlc, paint, wallpaper etc, but in its favour, it is in an excellent location.
It is my favorite region in wales, and I come back to this area time and again. ...

Not a bad little place at all. Nice location, tasty food, large rooms. Could do with a lick of paint here and there, but that's not a problem. View from my room was very nice. I would reccommend it on the whole. ...

Advantages: The Views Disadvantages: The Hotel and its management
The hotel is in a lovely location and has wonderful views, however these benefits have not been exploited as they might be. I stayed in the Master Suite which was spacious but had a string of minor problems which tainted the experience. The carpets were poorly fitted, the wallpaper was peeling in some places, the bathroom door both caught on the floor and was not painted on the sides, the shower door needed to be wedged closed with a towel.... All ... ...the overall experience.
Although the staff were friendly and helpful during my stay I encountered problems when we were forced to deal with the manager. Whilst out for a walk during our stay the room was cleaned and my girlfriend's glasses disappeared from our bathroom. Whilst it is reasonable that some people lose their glasses, this was certainly not the case in this instance and the insinuation from the management that we were fabricating this ...

We also had a terrible stay at this hotel.
There was a private party below our rooms with a band playing long into the night and no-one could sleep. The manager said everyone had been informed on booking, which was completely untrue. The beds were small and not what the types we had booked The staff were rude and unprofessional. ...

Advantages: Great positon Disadvantages: 20 walk may be too far to village for some
We spent two nights at The Manor Hotel in Crickhowell in September 2009. Our room was light, clean and a good size with all the promised facilities and with lovely views.
The staff were really great. From the moment we arrived we felt welcome and at ease. Nothing was too much trouble for them, from extra towels to dinner and breakfast bought up to the room. At Reception there was always a member of staff available, we didnt have to wait around for ... ...20 minute walk from the village and in an elevated position with some great views. The only downside to this was that there appeared to be no other way to reach the village itself on foot except for along the main road which was quite hair raising for the first 10 minutes with the speed of the cars and lorries whizzing by. Once past this it was a really pleasant walk into the centre of the villaage. ...

Advantages: ideally placed for walkers, superb food Disadvantages: food so nice that I ate too much!
...and were very impressed with the whole experience.
We are both keen walkers, and are very familiar with the Usk Valley, but seldom have we enjoyed such stunning from our room as we did here.
I also feel the hotel should be congratulated on it's policy to provide locally sourced and produced food.
Although most of our time was spent walking, we did have some periods of torrential rain. Fortunately the hotel is more than well equipped for such eventualities, ...

Advantages: homely feel, marvelous food and lovely new sauna Disadvantages: My stay was not long enough
...very nice break staying at The Manor last week. We found the staff to be, as they always are, very attentive, especially at the restaurant, which they pride themselves on actually.
We had a splendid meal, and enjoyed time in the new sauna (where we were quite pampered!) The rooms are very nice, quite large and well maintained, all have excellent views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Room service is very good and any requests are usually dealt ...
