It’s rather mean of me to say so but I wasn’t expecting Carlisle to be much of a gourmet’s delight. I know it’s unfair – Carlisle is the economic, business and cultural centre for a large area - but, coming from the other end of Hadrian’s Wall, it is customary to mock our Cumbrian cousins.
