The Roman Bath is located at the north end of Parliament Street in York. Walk north from the fountain (near HSBC), then you will find a square. The Roman Bath is on the left hand side of three pubs. The Crane is one of them...don't enter unless you want to arrange a contract killing.
The main attraction of the Roman Bath is surprisingly not the roman bath. Live music is on here most weekdays, and you tend to get middle aged ... ...mild, you can sit out the back, on big picnic benches, and there's a small hatch so you can place orders at the bar if needs be. Or food.
Speaking of the bar, like in most pubs in York, the John Smith's/Carling combination is prevalent. However, again like most pubs in York, a range of other drinks are available at a normal price (i.e. £1.80 for a pint of bitter, £2.40 for a cider and blackcurrant). They are notably well stocked in less than fashionable ...

Advantages: Very friendly staff, nice clean rooms live music, very central Disadvantages: noisy from live music
I totally disagree that the pub is minging. The rooms were very nice and cheap, pleasantly decorated with en-suite bathroom. The staff were great, very friendly and relaxed. It is in an ideal location for the attractions, restaurants and pubs etc and has the wonderful Roman Spa to visit that was excavated by builders years ago and opened to the public for viewing (very interesting).
The pub itself was noisy in the evenings because of the great rock ...
