Advantages: Bend over backwards service Disadvantages: None
Having been to The Savoy a number of times for business meetings it was always a hotel I have wanted to stay at not only for the history but also for it's location. However the cost has always been a little hard to bear. You can imagine my pleasure when idly scanning through hotels.com and seeing the hotel's latest offer of £99 pppn including continental breakfast.
I booked and treated my wife for a 2 night surprise visit. Apparently the cheaper ... ...need a refurbishment? Probably is the answer but it isn't tatty. More like faded but still impressive.
From the moment we walked through the doors we were made very welcome indeed. The doormen were attentive and eager to help. The reception staff were efficient and courteous (showed us to our room, happens infrequently these days). This was the standard for the whole stay. The room was great if you like Art Deco. We do, and we loved it. From the ...

Advantages: People to cater for your every whim Disadvantages: The slightly aged look
So my husband thinks he's the bee's knees and tried to fob me off with the old adage, well it's covered in saveloy sausages you know, but i wasn't fooled....no seriously....
I visited the Savoy with my best friend from NZ, she wanted a top London hotel for her last night here and after shopping around on the net and comparing a few of the best (Hazlitts, the Ritz, Browns etc) I booked a Queen size double at the Savoy for a website price of £149 ... ...total for the room ONLY was £183) but still cheap for a 5 star in London and come on! The Savoy (located on the strand next to the river) is dripping in history, after all Caruso played there, Marilyn was photographed there and Wilde dined there.
We arrived in relative style (taxi) up the right hand drive (only one in the UK) where the consciege deftly opened the doors and took our luggage, welcoming us to the Savoy, what a darling and my lord, ...

This is the place you want to pamper yourself in... if you have the CASH for it. The Savoy is opulence in itself. On walking into the lobby, you feel as if you have been transported back in time to some legendary castle, where you are met with a grand chandelier and some steps down towards the dining area. Perhaps it is its sheer majestic quality that scares some people away. My stay there was fantastic. The bedrooms and bath facilities were luxurious ... ...the Savoy again. However, I did not have enough time to wander around the entire hotel to check out all the facilities they had. Still, this is definitely not the place to be in if you are running on a tight budget. Anyway, the last time I was there, the Savoy Theatre was showing The Mikado, so do have a look if you have the spare time and would like to engage in something artsy. Outside the Savoy is the Strand where you can fling yourself out onto ...

Advantages: Lovely surroundings, (mainly) delicious tea. Disadvantages: Poor service
An enjoyable, but disappointing for the cost, afternoon tea at The Savoy. The location is ideal, on the Strand adjacent to Covent Garden, an easy walk from several tube stations and on several bus routes. The facade of the hotel and the lobby are beautiful, as is the lounge area where tea is taken. During tea, a pianist plays, which is a lovely accompaniment, although some of the songs seemed a bit modern given the setting!
Unfortunately the service ... ...could be seen chatting in the corners while people waited etc. There was an excellent choice of tea and the option to try as many as you wished. The Savoy blend which we chose was delicious, apart from our last pot, which didn't seem to have been brewed freshly and came out grey!
The sandwiches were good and we were offered a second selection. The scones were fine, but the cream wasn't as fresh as expected. The selection of patisserie was excellent ...

Advantages: Great Food, Staff, Design Disadvantages: none
...is talking nonesense. He decries the absence of oysters from the menu of the new Savoy Grill and he is 'disappointed' by the absence of game (long before the season starts). 'Gone were the various grills', he moans (there are at least four); and 'the different fish' (my friend had one of six), and the meats were also 'gone', he wrongly alleges.
It is conceivable he confused the new Savoy Grill with another place when accusing its staff of being ... ...and deference. Perhaps he missed the hightest praise the other day from the best restuarant critic, Mr Maschler. And he likes to eat to the accomplaniment of a harp. The refreshingly redocorated new Savoy Grill and its Chef, Marcus Wareing, are at the top of London's eating out scene.

Advantages: Fabulous architecture, great staff & atmosphere Disadvantages: Expensive
...but not as expensive as the usual price. We had a great room, with a balcony and view of St Pauls and the Oxo tower.
The style of the Savoy is probably best described as "faded grandeur" - but is full of atmosphere. It is a particularly fine example of art deco.
The location could not be more central: cross the road, and you're in Covent Garden.
The staff were great - we had reason to call people out a couple of times, for minor things, and they ...
