...experiences on a few of the Big Apple's major sights, the first one being the Statue of Liberty! The Statue of Liberty was actually a gift to the United States from the French, way back in the year 1886. It was given as a gesture of friendship and was to commemorate the centennial of the signing of the US Declaration of Independence. This is why the date July 4th is written on the tablet the Liberty holds in one of her hands. In the other she holds ...

The Statue is now a National Monument ...

Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses

Advantages: A Wonderful, Wonderful Experience
Disadvantages: Cannot go into Statue

...visited NYC in 2004 and The Statue of Liberty (or Liberty Enlightening the World, to give the correct title) was one of the things I really wanted to visit - other than that, I was happy to wander around the city! Having read how busy the statue can get, we made our way to purchase tickets early in the morning. The ticket office is located in Castle Clinton (originally built to protect against the English) on the southern tip of Manhatten. There ...
...the Island, Tour of the pedestal, Tour of the Museum etc. We opted for the full package which came to around $20 each (£10ish). It should be noted that there is no charge for visiting the island - the charge is for the ferry ride (which is the only way to get there!!). Waiting for the ferry, we were entertained by street acrobats - well worth a couple of dollars of anybody's money and we then proceeded through security where we walked through metal ...

Liberty Enlightening the World

Advantages: Boat ride and views
Disadvantages: Cant go into statue iself and long queues going through security checks

The Statue of Liberty is definately something you have to see if you go to New York or "Liberty Enlightening the World" which it is also known as. Outside the ticket offices there are people dressed up as the statue of liberty were you can get your photo taken however you will have to pay them a donation which aint much. My sis pretended that he didnt get the photo the first time so e had a few pictures (she definately wanted value for money) lol! ...
...before you get onto the boat over to see the statue. Once on the boat the views from the water were fantastic we got some great photos. What surprised me was that the statue was alot smaller than I had initially thought. Once onto the island where the statue is you can get some great photos of the skyline. You can not actualy go into the statue itself but you can climb up the platform she is standing on. You will get more security checks in which ...

Leading Lady?

Advantages: Nice to look at especially at night
Disadvantages: long queues, not very exciting, expensive to visit

...had to see all of the touristy things and spent most of our time walking - yes walking - around the city. The first thing we saw when we arrived (at night ) was the Statue of Liberty - it was great in the sense that it was familiar somehow and looked really nice all lit up. We finally decided to try to go visit it and proceeded to walk to the financial district to catch the ferry. Now, we went at a really busy time of year but people were actually ...
...to the front of at a cost of 30 dollars! We decided we didn't want to wait that long and so got onto the Staten Island Ferry instead. We got on straight away (no excessively long queues!) and proceeded to take all of our snapshots on the crossing over as you got a really good view of it. The ferry crossing was also free - which was another factor which drew us there! Whilst standing in yet another queue, this time for the Empire State Building, ...
