Advantages: Central and the Lobby is amazing Disadvantages: Poor and shabby customer service
...was one dark cloud on the horizon it would be our hotel. It simply did not live up to the high expectations l had set in my mind, and because of this we were severely let down.
We stayed at the world renowned Waldorf Astoria hotel. It is a name that rings with luxury and top quality, at least that’s what l thought. The Waldorf is the hotel all the visiting dignitaries stay at and all the American presidents have at one point or other stayed ... ...a few that have used the luxurious lobby to film in.
The hotel is styled in the Art Deco style and dates back as far as 1893. It is situated slap bang in central Manhattan between Lexington and Park Avenue on 50th Street. According to the hotel website and here l quote “….a reputation for unparalleled hospitality and service, the Art Deco landmark beckons New Yorker and visitors alike.” I would tend to choke slightly at these words; ...

As the clan jetted in to New York for their three-night stay, they gazed over Manhattan illuminated by night, and of course the lasers creating the effect of an eternally-lasting World Trade Centre. Our plane came down [at the airport that is] and we climbed off the 767.
Once our baggage had been gathered from the belt, it was off outside to contend with the somewhat swelled queue of passengers waiting to hop in the back of a yellow cab. But the ... ...In we got after loading the bags and commanded, ‘to the Waldorf Astoria.’ The Waldorf, one of NYC’s famous landmarks features in many films and books and is renowned for its art deco looks. You’ll find it on Park Lane in Manhattan.
The Journey Continues…

The Waldorf Astoria, An iconic, Landmark Hotel. This hotel has been in many films, so....I suppose I should be saying wow. My husband and I visited New York in the February of 2005. I was treated to a stay at the Waldorf Astoria. When we entered the hotel, I was.......blown away. The entrance is plush, extravagant yet elegant, with a pianist playing music, for those that wish to sit and enjoy a drink and just take in their surroundings. The reception ... ...were directed to our room, the disapointment set in. The room was shabby, the bathroom, although ornate and I am sure impressive in it\'s time, was dirty, the tap didn\'t work and everything was just looking a little tired. The main room area, was very much the same, the windows were dirty, the curtains were worn, the pelmet was slightly torn and all in all, it was not what I had expected / hoped for from the Waldorf Astoria. Luckily, when visiting ...

...New York and staying at the Waldorf Astoria, to me it represented the true glamour and romance of the city.
Upon arriving we were tired and just wanted to have a shower and then head off to take in a few of the closer sights. The queue to check in was HUGE, and when we finally got to the front we weren't even greeted with a hello or smile, just got asked for our names, not a good first impression. However, we were upgraded to the Waldorf Towers, ... ...When we finally found the lifts to go the Towers (eventually we were told that you don't use the main lifts) and found our room, the first thing that hit us was the strong smell of cigar smoke (we had asked for a non-smoking room, but upon questioning this we were told that there were no non-smoking rooms in the Towers part of the hotel). However, the room was lovely, with fantastic views of Park Avenue from the bedroom window. Slight down side was ...

...in a Junior Suite at The Waldorf Astoria. We had read a few indifferent reviews of the Waldorf on various websites before booking, but this was our first trip to NYC and we wanted to stay at The Waldorf. We wanted to stay there because its such a famous hotel and also because its in a great location to see New York from.
On arrival, we had a slight queue but were greeted by a very pleasant female member of staff who checked us in very efficiently ... ...you cannot help but notice the fabulous lobby which is a city attraction in itself.
The floor our room was located on was being decorated in some areas, and certainly the hallways looked in need of decoration. I have heard a few references from other people to the Hotels jaded appearance and I suppose this is what they mean. Due to the size of the place, I suspect keeping up with decorating it is a bit like painting the Forth Bridge, it's a never ...
